The MCG, like pretty much everything in Melbourne, would be the most over-hyped, over-mythologized sporting arena on the planet. It's big, nothing more.

I understand where you are coming from but I respectfully disagree. Being at the G is special. If anything I think AO is a bit overhyped these days.

All stadiums are over-hyped in this country AO the most picturesque in the world etc.

I expected the Crows, with their picks, to do well in the draft and credit to them, they did.

I expected very little of us with such horrid picks but we did much better than I thought we would. Some nice players brought in.

Time will tell but if you combine the 2016 and 2017 drafts we are ahead of the Crows in my opinion.
Add in our trades and the fact that we didn't lose any desperately required players of the calibre of Lever, Danger or even Cameron over the two years, I'm pretty chuffed.

Getting Scott Thompson in is another bonus.

Now to utilise all this new blood to push for a top 4 spot.

Nah, it's just hyped to the point where you're made to believe it's special. In reality it's just a cavernous concrete bowl with little soul.

has the D Fogarty is the next __________________ calls started yet?

Ive heard him described as Tony Lockett, Mark Riccuito and Paddy D so far.

Pity he couldnt get a kick all year at every level he played.

In seriousness he could be a star, but there are significant questions on him.

Apparently had knee meniscus issues.

2016:
3 u18 champs games 7 goals.

2017:
1 SANFL Reserves game 0 goals, 4 SANFL games 0 goals, u18 champs 4 games 4 goals.

Really hard to get a read from him, surely nothing that screams "next 1360 goal forward".

Just watched a few highlight reels of Fogarty.
I'd be pretty happy if we had got him so the Crows have done well.

He's in beast mode in that Macca's Cup match as a 17 year old.

But how high can you get off a dominant performance in an uncompetitive state league colts game where one side is significantly stronger than the other?

He has been significantly hindered by injury this year, which I guess explains why he's been a mile off that sort of form. However we still haven't seen him play that sort of footy in a championships game or at a higher level, so whilst Adelaide may well end up with a great bargain, there's a lot of questions unanswered at this point.

So you are saying that it is OK to forgo fairness in pursuit of bigger crowds and therefore more money?

It is well known that the host of any multi-nation, international event like the world cup will have an advantage. But it's not the same and you know it, right?

Make a solid financial case for Adelaide Oval or the new Perth stadium hosting the grand final then.

Of course money is a factor. It’s a very big factor.

I thought I posted the following before but oh well, the MCG should be like our Wembley. A new boutique stadium built for the teams using it as a home ground, and during the season every club gets a game on the MCG.

The AFL Grand Final is become the biggest sporting event in the country, it’s an institution of the Australian sporting landscape.
Trying to change it and fiddle with it is just jealousy and the typical South Australian mentality towards Victoria. Let it go guys, we aren’t a rival to them any longer, we aren’t even relevant as a state or city lol

It has big ghosts of the past going for it than any other ground in Oz and most around the world. And those ghosts cover a lot more than footy.

From a footy point of view only Melbourne played home games there until 1964 and then Richmond joined them until about 1984. You have a shit load of close finals and grand finals played there post WWII until the 1980's when GF'S became regular blow outs. Baby Boomers and older folks saw those games, recall those ghosts and more importantly have controlled the media for so long. The MCG vs Vic Park or Moorabin or Western Oval it's not hard to see which one is remembered and over hyped over the years.

Haha of course they're comparing him to the greatest goal kicker of all time.

In a forward line containing the next Carey, he will go well. Carey and Lockett - phoooar

There is where you wrong. It would be FAIR to have the GF at a neutral ground or at the ground of the highest-finishing team. I don't give a shit about the perceived SA-VIC rivalry (which, let's face it, only goes one way). If it is a national competition, let's respect every club and state equally. I don't give a shit if the GF is played in Geelong, the SCG or Western Sydney, let's let the teams that earned a competitive advantage during the regular season have that advantage right until the end, regardless of crowd numbers and ticket sales. That is how a REAL national competition should work. But we all know this isn't a truly national competition, don't we?

They're never gonna play a GF at a ground like Skilled Stadium.

I think the FA Cup model is the ideal. The FA Cup final gets played at Wembley no matter who's in it to guarantee that the final is played at a stadium with the capacity to handle it, but Wembley isn't any team's home ground so nobody gets an unfair advantage.
