Collingwood board suggesting that Bucks will stay and they will bring in a mentor for him.

Perhaps they could bring in Malthouse for him to serve an apprenticeship under and then transition to coaching alone...

I know you're joking, but I get the feeling that Mick was part of the cultural problem at Collingwood. He let things slide that coaches now would come down hard on. Probably a bit of the old school "don't ask, don't tell" attitude that is no longer acceptable in the AFL.

Buckley is part of the process to transition out of that culture so I can see why the hierarchy would cut him some slack. (Although the whole Heritier Lumumba thing doesn't paint him in a good light)

Will be interesting to see who they get in as mentor.

Not so sure it will work like that. As Eade has made public, he underestimated just what a basket case the club is. In his words he had inherited a s**t sandwich.

They lost patience with McKenna after 4 years and no finals and were even quicker to pull the trigger on Eade not extending his initial 3 year contract. Any potential first time senior coach that is currently an assistant at another AFL club would be crazy to take on the poison chalice that is the Gold Coast Suns. They are likely to get another former senior coach like Eade who has been unable to get a senior gig anywhere else or else promote Solomon from within.
Not sure why you are giving EADe credit for his words. Of course a "career coach" like him would throw the blame wherever he could.

He took up the job, if it was a poisoned chalice and he took it anyway then serves him right.

Yeah, I take what he said with a grain or two of salt. Seeing the performance of the Suns on Saturday night didn't make anything Eade said sound implausible though.

He said that he didn't realise how bad they were until he actually started in the job. His implication was that he wouldn't have taken the job had he known. Moving on Charlie Dixon wasn't to their culture the big fix he had hoped for.

Edit: From the article linked above, "Toque Miller and Jaeger O'Meara are two of the young Suns driving change at the club". Is that the same Jaeger O'Meara who requested a trade to Hawthorn six months later?

He will forever be known as the excuses coach. Even Shanghai confirmed it.

The AFL must have reaped enough $$$ from fines this year to cover their executives' salaries/payouts - only $1000 to be collected from R23:

I haven't seen the Heath Grundy/Levi Casboult clash - I wonder how it compares with Jonas/Dalhaus...

"Contact between the Sydney Swans’ Heath Grundy and Carlton’s Levi Casboult from the first quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Casboult was seeking to lead for a team mate further up the field and looking to make space away from his opponent Grundy. As Casboult changed direction, he looked to engage his opponent and the pair made contact, with Grundy bracing for the contact. Casboult went to ground but it was the view of the panel the Sydney player’s actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken."

Nothing about the sloane incident. I must admit i never saw it but some people were saying it would get looked at.

This would be my dream GF!

Redemption would be so sweet!

Have GWS dropped off a bit or is it just that everyone has turned up the heat on them and they are a wee bit loose in defense?

It is just that I am kind of counting on them to beat the crows and in recent form it doesn't look that likely

They are the classic team of champions on there day if enough of them click they can wipe the floor with any team. Think they have to many players that have tickets on themselves.

Yes they seem like a bunch of very talented individuals but lack a bit of team passion. If they ever get it though it will be dangerous for the rest of the comp.

My son somehow found a gold coast suns book in his school library, I didn't know they existed.
Reading it there were pages for: Eade/Ablett/Dixon/Omeara/Prestia/Bennell, along with Swallow and Matera.
Each page i started to understand why they are crap more.

GWS are a bunch of individuals coached by an average coach. Yes they had injuries but they are not playing any better with players back.

Straight sets exit and Leon Cameron sacked.

Nah, won't happen. He'll see out his contract. They're building something for the long haul and they're doing fine, even if they don't win a final this year.
