I have no problems with the GF at the ’G’ but the rest is interesting. Agree with some comments about tourism but I’d say behind closed doors the big mighty VFL was losing its identity as the ‘best’ league in the land ideology (even though its a national comp now) - they still want to act like kings of the castle, and with AO and the new Perth stadium they need probably feel a little insecure about themselves.

The way Eddie was waffling last night quite proudly about Vic this and Vic that says he really couldn’t give a stuff about anyone else. The we had to listen to the next half hour about Collingwood and Essendon respectively, that was clearly an agenda to promote 2 big Vic clubs, no different to how Murdoch papers influence an agenda.
It's quite noticeable when watching the various Vic based football shows - it's all about the Vic teams and for non Vic teams they are lucky if they get a mention! It gets me so ropable at times - would love to see the non Vic teams form an alternative League, but I know I am just dreaming and will never happen! We non Vics just have to suck it up I guess:mad:!!

You can always watch the Crows show

No coincidence that this announcement's been made months before this year's Victorian state election. As a Ballarat resident, I'm a beneficiary. The footy stadium Port played at here will receive a multi-million dollar upgrade. About $30m was spent on the ground prior to the Port-Bulldogs game last year.

It's handy living in a marginal seat.

THE MCG will be the home of the Grand Final until at least 2057 under a mega-deal with the Victorian government expected to be announced on Friday.

The agreement with premier Daniel Andrews' Labor government and the AFL is part of a broader sports package that will see $225million in investment in Etihad Stadium and the Docklands precinct.

Additional funding is set to be provided to improve facilities for the rapid growth of women's football and elite local level sport in key suburbs and regional areas.

Grampa Simpson:
"I figured because the democrats were in power again."

Compare the pair:

now they are saying ... Adelaide Crows part ways with AFLW premiership coach Bec Goddard

So his claim is that if Crows won the flag, Sloane would have left, but then Sloane agreed to a deal, but then Sloane changed his mind when his wife became pregnant. This is Roby-esque in it's mental gymnastics to manufacture a series of posts that can at some point in the future be claimed as 'correct'.

This counts as 'football media' these days.

Lol.

They love creating their own narrative and doggedly sticking to it. I've had crow supporters state to me as unequivocal fact that the crows only lost the grand final because they had to play at Richmond's home ground.
... but was that their attitude in the lead up to the game? I didn't hear a thing about being beaten before the game coz home ground advantage.
The cabinet had been built and the extra seat paid for the cup, so home ground advantage clearly wasn't an issue.

Those arguing on the basis of ground capacity please stop.

Yeah, it's a ridiculous argument.

It wouldn't make an ounce of difference if Perth and Adelaide had stadiums capable of holding 100k. Sydney has a stadium capable of holding the best part of 100k and that's never been considered.

The grand final is held at the MCG for historical reasons, a status quo that is maintained by the dominant theory in the biggest football state that football was never played outside of Melbourne before the 1980s and that the 'interstate' clubs are an inconvenience that only exist to bring money to the game. This theory is ably supported and promoted by the AFL itself.

Is to be expected this whole MCG GF thing.

Thing is, if you are the best team in the comp for a season then winning away games has to happen.

If a non-Vic team makes the grand final then you bet they have made it on more merit than one that has played 14-15 games at their home ground.

Still comes down to Anyone, Anytime, Anywhere

It's massively unfair.

Example. West Coast finished 2nd in 2015, Hawthorn finished 3rd. They played each other in a QF in Perth and West Coast won by ~10 goals. They end up meeting in the GF three weeks later for which West Coast is the higher qualified team but Hawthorn have hosting rights because reasons. Hawthorn win this game by ~10 goals.

What would have been the result if that game was played at Subiaco Oval, as it should've been?

Why is the MCG as GF venue suddenly being questioned? Is it because Adelaide just lost a grand final there to Richmond? God those campaigners whinge about everything.

Probably because the last 5 grand finals have involved a Victorian team beating a non Victorian team in the grand final, with the last 4 of those involving a higher ranked non Victorian team losing to a lower ranked Victorian team gifted home ground advantage for the grand final because reasons.

1997, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2012 weren't a problem for the non-Vic sides.

I don't see any issue whatsoever with the final being in the MCG. I found odd that new ovals don't emulate MCG "circled" shaped, which seems to be the greatest difference. "Los de afuera son de palo" ("Those outside are made out of wood"), as said Obdulio Varela, capitain of Uruguay, before the 1950 World Cup final against Brazil in Brazil.

Oh it's still unfair but the AFL is VFL rebadged so it's to be expected

And it cheapens the three-peat by Hawthorn and the Bulldogs fluke but on the other hand gives us the lulz from last year so swings and roundabouts

16 Grand Finals between a Victorian and Non-Victorian team, margin is 8-8. This is perfect because the AFL can just point to this and say "It's not unfair, it's all square at 8 a piece"

Yeesh we are not going down the Weagles, Cows n' Sydney whingeathon line are we.

So much confusion in this post!
