It shouldn't be, but as far as football news goes it is newsworthy. De Goey is a seriously talented young player, but has strung together a multitude of unprofessional off-field incidents that Collingwood can barely afford to tolerate much longer.

Just have to shake your head at the stupidity, the guy should have the AFL world at his feet with the ability he's got but just has refused to learn from his mistakes.

Have a read of De Goey's wrap sheet of unprofessionalism in his short time at Collingwood. Basically already on his last chance and at a club trying desperately to improve the attitude of it's poorly performing playing group.

Hodge was stupid too that evening, but he could point to a history of high quality leadership at his club for the best part of a decade and nil/minimal off field indiscretions.

Downright ignorant to think that a leadership group would view the circumstances the same in the context of deciding a punishment.

They did give him a suspension in 2017 but as you say that was at a less important time. And I have a sneaking suspicion that Clarko, with his knowledge of footy, knew the Hawks weren't a great chance to do much that year after their culling of Mitchell and Lewis and heavy trading.

Well yes, I agree that in the eyes of the police/public yes they should be treated similarly (ie. driving ban, applicable fine). But in the context you were making the misguided comparison of within the walls of the football club (ie. complaining about a presumed suspension to De Goey) it is extremely different circumstances.

I find 0.95 hard to believe, that reading should be coma stuff , .095 is more likely to be correct, but even that is way too high.
