It's an interesting one for the Bulldogs. It's no coincidence when we played them that they went from staying close to blown away when Griffen went off injured. They've strengthened their forward line, but at a high cost. Overall against all teams it's a win for the Bulldogs, but IMO against Port given our defense is our strength and our centre clearance issues in games I'd rather play Bulldogs with Boyd then Bulldogs with Griffen.
I would say they've turned a very bad situation into what could end up a good one, I think Schulzenfest summed it up pretty well before, when he described it as almost trading 6 for Boyd.

I would most likely call call Griffen + 6 for Boyd a losing trade if Griffen didn't want to leave. Losing your best player and captain as well as pick 6 which could land you an extremely good player for a guy who *could* be a very, very good KPF is way too much of a risk, as well as a blow to your club culture.

However, when you have already lost all that club culture, as well as your best player, your coach, and a couple of other great players, landing a guy like Tom Boyd for pick 6 is an incredible deal. Its still not a great sitation compared to what they were in 3 weeks ago, but compared to any alternative that involves Griffen, Cooney, McCartney, and Higgins leaving? Absolutely amazing.

The 7 year contract was either the reason Boyd chose to go to the bulldogs, or absolute stupidity on their behalf. It seems like the kind of deal which doesn't gain them anything if he does come off as an amazing player, or loses them a hell of a lot if he doesn't make it or gets injured.

This guy demanding a trade one year into a career and getting 1m a year compare that to the loyalty of Jack Trengove and what's happened to him upsets me
I know.

Who would want their son drafted by Melbourne?

Also said it earlier this season but Brisbane will do what Port did in 2013.

Beams, Rockcliff, Redden, Rich, Aish, Zorko, Taylor, Hanley, Christensen, Leuenberger and Martin....
And we're due to play them at the Gabba next year: shaping to be a cracker!!!!!

I hope when gws play bulldogs, mummy goes straight to Boyd and give him something to really whine about

Dogs have given Boyd a 7 YEAR DEAL

jeeeeeeeezus

Manager Liam Pickering on 3AW said the 1st year of his deal is a part of his standard first up 2 year GWS deal so he is only getting standard contract first round pick $$$$ next year.

It just occurred to me listening to 3AW that Dave Matthews (GWS CEO) talks exactly like Ross Lyon.

While we're at it are we sure these two didn't exclaim into the same rag after a particularly steamy sat'dee at Windy Hill?

Next year they'll be behind Essendon in the draft so I guess we'll hear about it.

Twitter is fun this time of year

Jeremy Cameron obviously didn't get on particularly well with Boyd. Pig-shooter is a bit harsh:D

Ryan Griffen is the pig shooter and Cameron is a keen Hunter
Rightio. Was wondering which was which. Jumped the wrong way. Typically..:(

Clearing up,I've never had the intention to leave PAFC or have I had any contact with any club about leaving.Looking forward to 2015 season

Knew it. He was never offered. Essendon would have accepted 17 + O'shea.

also lol Adelaide:

He's decided he'd be happier struggling for a spot at the Hawks than he would be playing every week for Adelaide. #nobrainer

The Lions have another advantage. In 2013 the rule where we would have only doubled up once against sides finishing 1-6 had not started and we played both Geelong(6th from 2012) and the cows(3rd from 2012) twice. If the 1-6 rule had started we'd have only got the cows for the showdowns(we won both of those). Could be a good idea to keep an eye on the Lions pre-season form and put something on them to make he 8. If they start at what we did which I think was about 17.00 then it could be a very good bet.
