A terrible meaningless game played in front of nobody. Really been enjoying all the dons (and blues) games this year in primetime

Good start by Swanny.

Get rid of so much unnecessary dead time in a quarter.

* Get rid of the umpire bouncing the ball will eliminate wasted time. See below.

* Boundary umpires to throw the ball in as soon as they get to where ball went out and not worry if rucks are in place. That saves about 10-15 seconds per throw in.

* stop wasting time with score reviews and a) trying to find a shot where the pinkie moves 1.257mm b) constant same shot replays c) score reviews by gutless goal umpires and d) limit score reviews to 30 seconds.

* stop wasting time and holding up play for cramp and minor injuries. If its not a serious injury and player is down 30m from the ball, play on, if within 30m move the player out of the way.

* ball ups, get in there and throw it up, stop wating time clearing the area and asking who is going up.

* goal umpires, its a goal when the ball crosses the line not when you lean back and it goes over your head and then you go looking for the central umpire. About 7-9 seconds per goal is wasted between when the ball crosses the line and the goal umpire signals a goal. Similar time is wasted when a point is kicked.

* centre bounces - currently we have a 45 second break for commercial TV purposes. 30 seconds for the ad and 15 seconds to show the replay of the goal - a necessary evil to have Free TV broadcasted games.

The central umpire gets a message he/she can bounce the ball, then he/she sets themselves, shakes themselves, walks in slowly and then bounces the ball and another 15 to 20 seconds is lost before the clock countdown starts again.

More time is wasted if the bounce is poor and a ball up replaces the bouncedown.

Get rid of the bounce. Get in the umpires ear and do the count down 5,4,3,2,1 as we get to 45 second mark of the commercial break, then the umpire can throw it up, umpires are already in the small circle and up goes the ball within 2 seconds of the 45 second break not 15-20 seconds later.

It is a joke than in a 20 minute quarter, when there are no serious injuries needing stretchers, concussed player carried off with assistance or mobile cart etc, that if both sides only kick 2 goals each, a quarter goes 31 or 32 minutes.

The AFL has just been slothful in so many issues for years and this is the easiest one to fix up

Add to your list players time wasting by not immediately returning the ball or hatching over it. Maybe only worth a few seconds a quarter but that one actually impacts the game by increasing the chance of a kick long down the line which leads to more stoppages.

As per above post, Graham has been withdrawn from the team to play Port today.

Why is he apologising to someone whom he called something they aren't, and not to the group of people who's labels her used as an insult to another?

The gay people I know would laugh their ***** off if someone called them a pouffe.

The bundle of sticks word though... that's a whole 'nother story.
I dunno I know a couple husbands and they refer to this other gentlemen we both know as a ****ing bundle of sticks that needs to come out the dirty old queer.

Perhaps that word is becoming less serious homophobia as it once was.

Ok I am definitely out of touch with what level of suggesting another man is homosexual is outrageous and what level is good natured fun?

What would Papa G think

You had to see the footage. He was getting a rubdown on the sidelines, laying on his side with his guernsey pulled up exposing his belly. The way his body was twisted made it look like he was pregnant.

Think there would be a better marketing opportunity for the AFL to have a team based somewhere in Nth Qld rather than NT.

The whole marketing would be around a truly national game in every ‘state’.

Need to support these cellar dwelling battler VFL teams for the good of the competition
They refuse to give the Showdown a stand alone national spot, but then in the same round have:

Hawks v Carlton - Thursday night
Essendon v Dogs - Friday night
Kangaroos v Geelong - Saturday night

It is actually pretty funny (not that the showdown will be a good game either)

For Thurs and Fri I guess that's what C7 asks for, as the Victorian audience would be their prime target.

Annoys me then when the same Victorian teams turn round to us and say we should grow our share of the pie (re sponsors etc) instead of needing more handouts.

Sure, but if the opportunity came to holiday up North in winter for a week & watch Port play what would you prefer being around? The Great Barrier Reefs, white sand beaches, Heritage listed Rain Forrest’s and Water Falls of Nth Qld or the secluded dry dust bowl of Darwin:)

Get rid of so much unnecessary dead time in a quarter.

And also - reduce time of the actual quarters! This will be the biggest help - there is so much dead time at the end of so many games when the result is in the bag. It will also mean fewer injuries and hopefully prolong player careers.

Yeah on the hierarchy of the league's care-factor clubs, infuriatingly I would have Port last of 19. There is contempt and disrespect.
