It was the late addition of pick 29 to the deal that apparently led to Port agreeing to it. I also agree the Luko deal, if separated out from the Houston deal as I did, is not as bad as many suggest. I think many were worried it was going to cost a top 4 pick, it now looks unlikely to be a pick in the top 8 or so (famous last words).
looking like pick 8 or 9 at this stage but i have no idea where that blows out once any academies or father sons etc are included, it's likely to be a double figure pick. I think we stay 11th, Carlton, Essendon, Melbourne and Saints all seem worse than us.

the anyoing thing is most vic's and people in media would forget about butters and rozee when making AA team but include majority of people who is below the in this image

Yeah I mean why would you want to give him half a dozen games at the end of this year with no pressure or expectations where he can try a few things out, when you can hand him the reigns round 1 next year so he can start under the pump. Yep nothing to gain there, you've always got your finger on the pulse of all things PAFC on field.
What? If you made him head coach now that’s exactly what would happen. Reading comprehension wasn’t your thing at school was it?

Yes - there is nothing to forgive. He gave his best, just like he always does. It was a really poor game by him, but it wasn't a pattern. His games before and after have all been up to standard.

One bad game does not undo many years of great service to the club.

Boak has done far more for the club than you or I have, he does not need our forgiveness for having a poor game, no matter the stakes. If it was a lack of effort or preparation or anything like that - then sure, you could perhaps argue something. This was not that. It was just a bad game, nothing more, nothing less.

Giving your best is great

I could give my best out there but it doesn’t make me a good footballer

He was woeful in that game. Genuinely one of the most anti clutch players I’ve ever watched.

We have nothing to gain from Carr taking over early, not financial or structural. He’ll have the heat on him round one next year, why start any earlier. I feel like Hinkley moving from the bench was a good move so it’s no big deal if he’s not there next year. Also liked Carr doing the Presser last week. Feels like he’s eased into the job for both players and himself.

I was being sarcastic because you have such a shit take. There's a lot to be gained by making the change, for Josh and the club.

we gave up we essentially got Berry, Whitlock, Moraes and Richards for Houston.

Would you trade all of that out to have him back?
Yes. Obviously.

Would you trade four $20 notes for one $100 note?

Very alarming seing that out of the 3 star mids bergman is the only one running both ways

Lloyd showed up the poor defensive running of our two midfield guns.

Very concerning.

I hope they are just going through the motions because of all that has happened this year but it is still no good.

We can't win if Butters and the Hornet don't run defensively. It is as simple as that.

i guess we just have to wait and see, you can't properly judge this trade until a couple years down the track. He wanted to go, and that is what the market rate was at the time, i don't think we would've gained much by keeping him on for another year.
Once he decided he didn't want to be here i was happy to move him on for some youth. The silver lining for me is it has forced us to rethink our defence and moving Rozee back there has been a good move, he is basically playing the seagull role Houston was but with more pace and agility. Rozee is arguably in career best form. And Rozee in defence has opened up a spot in the midfield for Bergman, which has probably helped keep him happy.

Houston leaving also has freed up a spot and cash for us to make a genuine play at NWM, it might not work out but it's good to be in a position to be able to table an offer that has clearly got him thinking.

If Butters left it would be a disaster, but the carry on about Houston was way over the top.

If we'd held firm on Houston last year we still could've traded him to free up the cash and assets to get NWM this year, rather than being stuck with a rapidly depreciating asset in Joe Berry who we'll struggle to trade instead.

Next year's first + a first we could've gotten this year by trading Houston would probably have gotten us NWM. Next year's first + Berry won't.

What would Houston be worth on the market now, a year older, in a poorer draft too?
