But what does it achieve? He bangs in and attacks the footy but rarely locks it up or shuts down an opponent. Also vulnerable in the air.

Logan is similar, throws himself to ground at contests and charges headlong at aerial contests but usually watches from the deck as his opponent runs off or out marks him comfortably.

At some stage we have to realise these types are not going to improve as individuals or our team in any capacity.
I'm not saying he's a particularly good player, but of all things to pick on, his defensive side of his game isnt his weakness.

Meh, not too disappointed. I was disappointed when we were seven goals up yet lost in the rain in the fourth against Brisbane a couple of years ago. Managed to stay mostly dry this time, which was a nice change.

Thought it summed up our season in a lot of ways. Some really good passages, some really bad passages and when it was on the line in the fourth, didn't have the legs to make the contest. Seemed like every time there was a marking contest or something similar there were a bunch of Lions players around the ball in the fourth. Gave up too many goals over the top from our forward 50, but we've seen that for a while now.

I do wonder if Schulz's injury is hampering his goal kicking. He has been slicing them to the right since he came back.

Too many fumbles and too many missed opportunities in the end. If we have cleaner skills we win that in a canter. A new coach, some new fitness and some extra skills work and we can be a lot better next year.

If we delisted our worst/oldest 20 players and replaced them with all new ones, how many of them would genuinely think they will get a job at another AFL club?

What a frustrating game to go watch. I think in some respects if we'd been clearly worse and beaten by 5+ goals it'd be easier. Doing the hard things and having control of the match for the majority of the game, only to repeatedly **** it up by dropping marks gave me a few more grey hairs. (I swear it's now not age that's caused my hair to recede and go grey, it's corresponded exactly with going along to matches where I pull it out in frustration).

More then anything else I'd put the loss down to Brisbane holding marks when they needed to, we didn't. Voss must have thought it was his birthday, we were the team that just kept on giving gifts to his side all day long. Yeah fitness was shit again and the umpires tried to will Brisbane to a big lead in the first half, but our fumble fingered brigade were daylight ahead of those for reasons we lost a game we should have won.

Morale is poor. Just like all of us working in a job for a company going nowhere, with dwindling management, debt ridden and dependent. What do you spend your smoko time talking about with the buds. The workers who have something to offer and somewhere to go, leave. Only those that have been there to long or have nowhere to go, stay. Radio this week in vic was not about who would coach next year, but who wants it. Several have beeb sounded out, but none are in a hurry to commit. Need i say more.

If a footy ops manager counts as a player then take one off the total, but F-me, the number is depressing. Someone like a GWS or GC would take the likes of Schulz and Kane if you are going 20 oldest players (the latter on a one or two year contract whilst youngsters come on), if you said 20 worst they'd all be playing state league's.

Defending =/= running around and puffing your chest out.

Having said that I am a fan of Thomas over McCarthy, Pfeiffer, Logan, Ebert and anyone else who constantly fumbles marks and can't kick.

I'm still confused as to how people thought Westhoff was better then complete shit today. I was at the game and he was rubbish. Two possessions up to half time (one was a nice goal...granted), isn't enough. As I overheard one guy say..."He's better of ****ing it up and making a mistake." But then I thought, he should have three Brownlows by now.

The slash was indicating some balance between the two categories. In my `ideal' scenario, Schulz would be the oldest guy on our list, Surjan & Pearce next oldest. Maybe Chaplin in there.

You could back up your assertion with some facts. This is exactly what was said before Butcher resigned. It's easy to make up negative rubbish when the team/club/business is down.

 As above, terrible. Paint me a picture of a rainbow can you. people need to realize just how many players want out. If they do, or we have a huge cull:oops: we have 5 to 7 years of rebuilding. The AFL wont wait that long. Plain and simple.

Just how many players do want out? Let's be real here, our players are already under performing and overpaid, if anything, staying at Port Adelaide would seem the way to go.

Ah, now I see it. You're buying into the bullshit media. By the way the sky is falling as well.

Agree in our current situation it's easy to make up shit, but appoint a good new coach and see how quickly some hope is rekindled

You dont need to question me about facts. It is what it is. in regards to Butch being the future savior, i am on record as saying good luck. There is cyber world and real world. This clubs existence will be played out in real world time starting this october. If we get it wrong, we can join the fitzroy forum. Iwas around when they went under, and people said it would never happen then. Hanging s**t on boak today by cyber fans just adds to the dream worls some are living in. Want facts? watch as it unfolds.

Thomas - nine disposals.
Pfeiffer - ten.

Neither do anything defensively, so what the f**k are they out there for.

I don't think a new coach can keep Pfeiffer on the list tbh. His dropped marks, fumbling and blind kicks are now too bad. Get him out of there, along with Logan, Thomas, McCarthy and Rodan who all suck. If Cassisi can join them, fantastic!

I feel sorry for Pfeiffer. He looked like he was gaining in confidence and turning into a very good player before he was inexplicably dropped while spuds like Logan retained their spot playing the same position. If today's game is any indication, they've killed his career. Logan's kids better be ****ing superstars.

But what does it achieve? He bangs in and attacks the footy but rarely locks it up or shuts down an opponent. Also vulnerable in the air.

In our first forward 50 entry today, Thomas and renowned hard-man Pearce Hanley were going for the same ball. Thomas was in perfect position to attack the ball, kill the contest and take out Hanley. He completely missed the ball and the man, Hanley kicked it upfield and Thomas then tackled him well after the disposal and gave away a downfield free kick. It took every ounce of loyalty I had not to walk out on the game there and then.

Having said that I am a fan of Thomas over McCarthy, Pfeiffer, Logan, Ebert and anyone else who constantly fumbles marks and can't kick.

This sentence doesn't make any sense.

Wut?

Fitzroy had no home base, limited members, considerable debt and were being actively railroaded by the AFL for years. Apples and pears.

I don't disagree we are in the gun if we don't get our next football department, list management and off-field strategies right as there are many influential men in SA who gleefully blame us for everything and would have Alberton knocked down and the Earth salted, but FMD, let's not start buying into the Fitzroy analogy nonsense.

There's room in the team for one of them and I think that's Thomas. Sure you want players that are tough and skilled but at the moment we have hardly any and we can't afford to be running out with 20 outsiders.

Also Pfieffer should stay well away from the forward, I like his work in defence and I think he has time to improve and cement a spot, but not in the HFF like Thomas.

We're over-stacked with insiders and have been for some time.

If anything we need skilled outside players to actually profit from all the attritional work we do.

Wouldnt believe any media, let alone the melbourne media when it comes to our club..!!

Ginever has said that he knows for a fact, the coaches that have been discussed ( eade, burns etc ) are all very keen to coach the pafc..!!

The coaches that are questioning us, are the ones who have got no chance, and are trying to save face...(eg bickley)...!!!

As much as we want Thomas and Logan to be Wilsons, they will only ever be Poultons.
Poults was better. I wouldn't trust Thomas or Logan to kick the goal after the siren to win a game. Thomas would probably drop the ball and go to bump the man standing the mark, even after the siren. Only to miss and collect one of his teammates. Whilst Logan would run in growling only to slip over and soccer it out of bounds for no score.
