Should be an interesting game this week. Both teams have plenty to play for. Melbourne need a win to start to cement a final 8 spot and Port need to hold onto top to avoid a Melbourne-based preliminary final.

IMO Melbourne's midfield were the difference the last time these teams met (Round 2). White and Primus were not overly influential, but Yze was sensational, as well as some of the "lesser" players like Bruce and Johnstone. Neitz did well to kick about 4 goals or something from not many possessions, but it was a team display and shut-down of the Port midfield, as well as Nicho doing a job on Tredders, that saw Melbourne win well in the end.

I see a Port win this time, naturally, but was interested in Melbourne fans views/opinions on this Round 17 clash.

Post away!

On a more serious note (its a stretch for me but i'm trying!), i was absolutely disgusted by the dees lack of aggressive defense against the hawks. Time and time again the hawks stuck to our men like glue at kickouts, yet when they held the ball, it was as if a prtoective zone came around the hawks players and they were able to get it through our midfield incredibly easily. It was embarrassing to watch to say the least.
The only excuse for this was bad coaching, if Danners can acheive what he did against Adelaide and Brisbane, then Port should be worried. Port however are a very good team, and i am somewhat apprehensive about the game.

(hey, you asked my opinion :D )
I agree! Plus I will always call it Football Park, just as I will always call Colonial; Colonial, even though they have re named it as Telstra Dome or some crap like that.

As for this week, I think the Dees are in with a real show. Port arn't in the greatest of form, and the Dees arn't doing too badly, if Neitz kicks his first shot at goal, mark him down for 7 more, and a 25 point Demon victory! :D

Who knows what will happen this week. I feel that Port should win, but it will all depend on which Melbourne team decides to turn up.

If we play like we did in Brisbane, then it's a strong possibility. I we play like last game, we will get **** on, it's as simple as that.

I will be interested to see who Lamb gets. I know you guys kept a thing with Nicholson, but you could start one for Lamb if he gets and beats Tredrea this week. Hey, he beat Lynch, Thompson and Kouta (for the quarter he was on him) and I would love to see him get Tredrea. He is deceptively strong and quick and in form.

There is no doubt Neitz is in form, as he is marking and leading well. He just needs to put em through the sticks this week.

I am not getting my hopes up, but really, who knows!

Why will you still call it Colonial??? It is still just a sponsors name, why did the commentators stop calling it Docklands?

Neitz vs Waeklin will be a great contest.

Why don't you call Optus 'Princess Park' then?

Colonial is not only the name I'm used to, but because I have nothing to do with Colonial the sponsor, I don't think of it as using the sponsors name. Telstra on the otherhand, or AAMI, or Optus for that matter, are in my opinion more commercial words.

Would you stop calling the MCG that if it's name ever changed?

Neitz will beat Wakelin, as I believe Wakelin is too slow.

Lamb vs Tredrea will be good to watch too.

I do have Fox Footy btw ;)

I'd seriously come up for that, but I have to work dammit!

I'll be there Tigers game though.

What's Lamb's fitness and workrate like? Tredrea often works hard all around the ground for his possessions (when in form). Looking at the aforementioned Lynch, Thompson and Kouta - they all played out of the goal-square (correct me if I'm wrong).

Yes, all three of them were more out of the square, but Lamb does move up the field and did stream down to kick a goal against Carlton, so it isn't too bad.

Lamb or Ellis will get Tredrea.

Last time Ellis played on Tredrea, Tredders had 23 touches, 14 marks and 4 goals in a BOG performance.

Im hoping Ellis is on Tredrea :D

That was last time, and that was at the Bulldogs. I think he has improved at Melbourne, and won't play that badly second time around.

Tredrea will be happy Nicho isn't playing, seeing as he was well beaten last time. Lamb has been in good form too, so it won't be all smooth sailing for him, even though he has a good record against us (excluding this year.)

Haha you wish! Lamb will get Treadrea.

Lamb hasn't conceded a goal in the last 2 games (McKernan/Kouta & Nathan Thompson) So I'm not worried about Lamby.

We'll have to beat you in midfield again to win.

Port's defence looks undersized. Only Wakelin & Bish have any real size & Contesting has never been Bishop's strong suit.

He's more comfortable playing on the 3rd tall, not in a key position. In fact I don't think I've ever seen Bish in a key position. He's most comfortable when he can use his pace, I hope we throw Jolly up to CHF to really stretch the Port defence.

It's a definite chink in the armour, but we still have to expose it effectively.

Neeta,Jolly,Robertson,Vardy & Wheatley could give Ports defence headaches.
