Pos and Neg from the derby

Duffield was a legend and Zac Clarke is getting some form, where we need him up forward

Mayne is disappointing and Crozier's running goal attempt was ..embarassing

Positives:
-Better games from all of the down-on-form-ers (Ballantyne, De Boer, Sub-an, Sutcliffe, Mayne too a bit)
-Clarke still lumbering but having an impact down forward
-Win

Negatives:
-Injuries
-The great second quarter vanishing act
-Forward entries, although I appreciate that we took our time and lowered the eyes a bit
-Form still not there yet

I thought mayne did really well. He went on to the dangerous head slinger darling and did a really good job. Ross made him get a heap of the pill.
Thought crozier was pretty decent also.

Despite a couple of great efforts from Lachie and Sandi etc it was still a poor game and we were lucky the eagles were horrendous...

We made a lot of skill errors, didn't attack the game especially in the 2nd/3rd qtrs and our efficiency going forward was way below par.

We will need a big improvement to get near Port or Geelong.

Positives
- Derby win.
- Good improvements for Clarke, Lackie, DeBoer, Suban as the sub.
- We pulled out of that 2nd qtr slump.

Negatives
- That 2nd Qtr slump.
- Possible injuries to McPharlin, Dawson, Clancee
- We struggled against West Coast!
- Fyfe struggled once Selwood went to him.
- Still not sure about Mayne??

Explain Dawson being undisciplinedo_O
Very common event that happens too often.
Brain fade giving away a really dumb free kick often resulting in opposition goal.
Having said this though I have somewhat warmed to him and am happy to give him the praise in many cases when he does nullify some of the larger opposition forwards.
Cut out the brain fades and his value would be increased massively.

If you mean the tackle on Darling resulting in a free it was necessary to stop Darling playing on and running into an open goal
Darling missed the shot:rolleyes:

Stood up when it mattered, but it wasn't a great game by any means. Will need a significant lift for Port next week.

On the positive side, it looked like the wheels slowly began to turn in the latter part of the second half, discounting our fast start.

And some EXPERTS rated there list better than ours:rolleyes:
I think the broader footy world buys into a lot of hype with the Eagles. Because they have made finals more often than they've missed them in their history, people err on the side of overrating them.

But I just don't see where that spark comes from. None of their players under 25 look like a potential top 10 player in the comp type. When they were last making grand finals they had three. Now zero.

One thing that worried me is that while we kept possession of the ball through little kicks and uncontested marks, when we turned the ball over from that we were completely exposed and out of position.

Granted the team wasn't setting up to defend but we looked slow defending the rebound.

Wingard sitting a kick behind play could be really dangerous against us.

Eagles are just missing a couple of quality midfielders to support Shuey. Natanui's fantastic year in '12 may have deceived them in thinking it was better than it was. You're going to struggle when you best clearance player is Priddis. I think they will be okay, they have a great future spine in Kennedy, Darling, Natanui/Lycett, Brown and Mckenzie. F*ck me some of them are over the top on their board. I'm not sure what they seriously expected this year. Top 4? lol.

Really happy with Neale's game, along with Duffield, Sandilands and Ballantyne. Fyfe, Muzungu, McPharlin and DeBoer were great in patches.

I'm quite critical of Suban but he had a big influence when he came on. Went quiet in the 4th but he was fantastic in the third when we needed it. I'm a little torn as it means he will keep his spot, plus a good quarter by Suban seems to be remembered by some supporters for about two months. Really needs to build on today and work on his consistency.

If Hill makes it next week, he can come in for Crozier. If not, I'd be happy with no changes.

Problem is they don't seem easy to find for West Coast. Since 2007, West Coast have had more top 30 picks in the draft than Freo, and they've spent most of those picks on midfielder. Only one of them is definitely better than Lachie Neale, and that's Shuey. Meanwhile Masten, Gaff, and Sheppard are pretty average and inconsistent, while a number of other top 30 picks like Swift, Stevens, and Weedon are gone.

And yet every draft we have geniuses on here saying "Why didn't we take the WA kid?"

Could be as much their development as anything else. Stick a silver spoon in any player's mouth and they won't hit the potential they should, just not as hungry. Imagine Nic Nat on the Walter's development plan with Sandi mentoring him.
