Well...

1. Elvis - reliable, quiet, just gets the job done. If only we could have thrown him forward for part of the first half, just to mix it up.
2. Spurr - really pleased with that game from him, made a few mistakes, but showed he has the body and strength to play a McPhee type role across CHB. Also seemed unawed when sent forward for parts of the second half.
3. Dawson - another solid game. I wasn't a fan, but he is really showing why Ross rates him as a defender. Needs to work on punching off both sides of his body though, at the moment only seems to punch with one hand...
4. Ballas as a forward - showed that even when he is having a really shitful day, can't get anywhere near it in the midfield, and totally out of the game for long periods - he is still our most dangerous impact forward by a long way, he can bob up and kick a couple in no time flat. Play him forward Ross.
5. Ibbo and MJ - again, both were solid for most of the day, and stood up under waves of pressure.

That's it.

I really don't think a positives thread should exist after that game. Neale was good and Barlow gained a bit of touch, other then that we were shocking.

Most people had Ibbotson as worst on ground? I've not seen the game yet.

Ibbo coughed up minimum 5 goals with poor kicking/decision making and just general softness at the contest.

Not sure about 5 goals. Did fluff a couple of kicks but took some saving marks. A bit like a lot of our players, showed good and bad things at times.

Our newest Freo supporters will have learnt a hard yet valuable lesson.

No matter how optimistic you are about dreams of winning a flag - you are only one game away from those dreams being showered in footballing diarrhoea delivered up by the men in purple.

You will somehow find a way to cope and continue to support the Dockers and at times will question your own sanity. Yet hope remains alive and there is always next week.

Should premise this by saying I've not watched the whole game ...

Players like Ibbo get crucified in games like this because their mistakes show up like a neon sign. Other's can have bad days or just not get their hands on it up the ground and it doesn't look so bad. I'm not saying Ibbo was sesnational, but he wasn't that bad - just up and down like many of the players.

Positives:
- Got a tip right at last
- reality check for our team and the fans ...

... not that I like losing, but it shows we are a mid-tear team. On our day, all cylinders firing we might mix it with the big boys, but the gap between our best and worst is still a decent one and until that narrows (upwards) we'll always be bottom half of the 8/just outside type team. I still think Ross has got us on the right track though, but looks like we were shown up today.

I thought he was comfortably. Truly terrible. Has been OK in recent weeks but this was bad enough to have a week's rest IMO.

I'm not a fan but he's been good for a few weeks now, so shouldn't be dropped after one terrible game.

Also, I doubt very much that he will be dropped as Lyon is blaming the loss fairly and squarely on the midfield and stated he felt sorry for the defenders (which Ibbo is obviously one).

Good to see a few more positives, even a couple that made me larf..

Though that game made me barf.

And Lach, not to derail the thread into an Ibbo debate, but Sandi, Duffield, DeBoer and Mayne were all much worse than Ibbo. Duffield and Sandi in particular had absolute shockers.

Ibbo made a few mistakes but I thought he was good, especially given he was under enormous pressure for the whole game because of the overwhelming dominance of the Hawks. Hard to blame him for the fact our ruckman was belting it to four hawks, and it certainly isn't Ibbo's fault that Duffield is a weak overhead defender.

In defence of Sandi, he can't be held responsible for our midfielders:

(a) not positioning correctly,
(b) failing to hold their positions
(c) not actually getting to enough contests in numbers and
(d) not quickly spreading once we did get the pill.

Also, as Stone and Lloyd have pointed out, he's got his eye on the ball ("head in the clouds" iirc Stone's phrasing), and he often had to contend with the Hawks having a 3rd man up.

Most of all, I think the mids were expecting the same silver service they got last week, but let's face it, Hale ain't no Renouf (hell, Puopolo would give a better contest!).

The essendon Richmond game - quarter time and teams scored more than we did all game.absolute cracker of a game !

Having come home from the swans melbourne game, the main positive running through my head is that i'm not a melbourne supporter
