Probably illegal and will never happen but an interesting stratergy none the less.

With the veterans list (as far as i know) only 50% of the veterans salary goes into the cap.

Is it possible next year to sign Milburn and Harley to million dollar contracts (500k each contributed to the cap) then use the extra money to give to the players.

For example, Chappy gaz, jimmy, corey and scarlett all want 100k salary increases. Instead of them getting the money through their own contract, Tom Harley "Gives" them the money out of his pay. And we sign Gary and the crew on their original contracts.

Thoughts :p

Yeah the ATO would love to see this in action, I'm sure Milburn and Harley would be appearing before a court on something in regard to this. Highly ineffective to give players cash.

Usually you can only give a one off payment to others once per year, and to only one person. The ATO would be all over this in a heartbeat.

Can't and wouldn't be done.

The main payoff would to be in a winning team that no-one could beat, push at the chance of back to back premierships, that would be where the money is. Then they can make as much as they like in sponsorship.

The last option is the easiest.

In theory they could do what you suggest, but the money would have to given to Harley without any catches as far as the AFL are concerened. If he wants to give it to his co-players fine, but if there is an understanding that he give it to his co-players then you are in trouble.

There are plenty of ways in which money can be made, sponsor giving generous sponsorship, clubs buing the domain names of the players, overseas bank transactions, over-paid virtually nonexistant jobs, fast food franchises etc.

all i know is tom harley shares a house with all 5. Rent is 500k a year, which is split 5 ways :D

You have some stupid ideas sometimes man.

;) just thinking outside the square. Would love to see a club try it just to see how the AFL would deal with it. But it wont happen :thumbsd:

Tom and Dasher could 'lose it in a card game' to those guys. I don't believe gambling winnings are taxable either.

Lol... rizzo... for years I'v underestimated you... where is this brilliant steak coming from? Hhahahaha - thats pretty awesome, as dodgy as I am I'v never thought of something so clever.

Pisser!

One problem might be that I don't think Tom Harley qualifies for the veteran's list next year. Needs to have 10 years completed service at the Cats and I think next year is his only 10th.

Dasher is a great player, but probably not worth $2m on his own ...

just start "giving" the fellas houses or apartments in exchange for lower salarys ala what collingwood have done with Dale Thomas.

TC:eek:

A very Italian sounding name Rizzo...quite appropriate perhaps?

It could be Portuguese in origin. Hey Rizzo, is your christian name Pedro?

Sorry to dissapoint. I carry the name rizzo after the muppet :o

Never the less I will take this plan to the AGM :D

Anyone remember Brad Hardy's suspiciously small contract at Brisbane compared to the hundreds of thousands he was paid to wash Pixie Skase's car? There was a blonde bloke who moved up from Collingwood called Richardson (I think) who had a similar deal but noone could work out what he did off the park.
White shoes anyone?
