Robbo sure isn't convinced looks like we are Flat trackers until we win a premiership.....

View attachment 361696
So flat track is only relevant to the MCG? If we beat the Dogs at Docklands or the Giants at the Showgrounds, or Adelaide at Adelaide Oval that doesn't matter?

FTB is just such lazy analysis.

Distinct lack of Keys to tell us all to stop over reacting. I wonder if he went too far with the Autoerotic Asphyxiation?
Not defending that effort yesterday

Not sure about the second half of your post but if that's your thing knock yourself out

The worse thing is the player's have probably gone had a coffee to talk about how they can be funny in the next eagle back chat podcast.

And who is going to drive that shit box in the next episode of conversation in cars.

bloody frustrated with these bloody campaigners.....

They're not robots, there's nothing wrong with doing something else to distract you throughout the week.
I'd hope they don't mope around all week, that gets you nowhere.
You've got to fire up, get angry and want to smash in next week to get better.

There is no doubt the team has the capability of competing with any team – as witnessed last year with away wins against GWS and Adelaide and prior to that finals wins against the hawks at subi when the hawks were still a more than decent team. However It relies on all 22 of our blokes playing at their absolute maximum potential, probably similar to the dogs and Swans (these teams can sustain it for weeks on end though). Whereas teams like GWS can probably afford a few passengers within a game but still win due to the sheer depth of talent.

We rely on the likes of pridda, shuey and now probably Mitchell to have great games and get balls out to the runners like Gaff who can then get it in quick to JK etc... The issue is when these blokes are having a poor game or getting tagged or triple teamed like JK was on the weekend, we cant rely on other blokes to stand up and take up the challenge. Masto, Redden, Hill, darling, Lecca, Jetta, Wellingham are all down hill skiers as mentioned and will never dig deep to drag the team out of the mire. At least a guy like Hutchings has a crack – much like Mcginnity or RoJo – guys with limited skills but at least they have bigger hearts than these other guys and will put bodies on the line to get a contested possession or provide a chop out. Whilst he isn't quick Sheed looked to be a really promising midfielder but after a great start to his career has really stalled in the last year.

Am unsure of Simmos coaching ability – we really miss Pyke – and the current assistants – Pratt, Longmuir don’t inspire confidence given the defence has leaked badly and the forward line cant function when JK gets hammered having to deal with 3 defenders and poor midfield entries.

Was hoping Sammy Mitchell would be the difference this year – more in terms of hoping he would get stuck into the likes of Redden, Masto, Hill etc.. and harden them up, although his on field abilities certainly would help. Maybe he needs to transition to a coaching role sooner than later, free up a spot for a venables type player and really get stuck into these blokes and get our midfield in shape. Our list is also pretty thin - there is no one at east perth pushing up for a spot.

Given his apparently good game for EP (according to Keys) anyone want to try something radical and chuck Mackenzie to CHF?

Just jokes mate :) I was wondering where you were, hoping the loss didn't hit you too hard :)
Nah I was filthy with what was dished up yesterday but couldn't be bothered coming on here to save what's left of my sanity

As an organisation the club collectively is too nice and has been since 2007/08 when the AFL neutered us over the drugs thing. There's no arrogance or, more importantly, campaigner left in the club

When things are on our terms we look great but turn to shit whenever the blowtorch is applied

I'm interested in seeing how the club responds because if yesterday's result isn't the catalyst for change then I don't know when there will ever be one

Personally I'd like to Nisbett resign/moved on as the last meaningful link that period so that it can finally be put behind us - if it ever comes up in the future we can then say we're a new club and it's no longer relevant

We then need to prioritise on field success above all else because that's been lost in favour of being a good corporate/community citizen to rebuild our tarnished image

I'd love us to play the type of unsociable football that propelled hawthorn to their success but this playing group doesn't have that in them. Can't remember the last time we really went after a side physically and got our hands dirty

It's why the flat track bully tag exists and is a big part of why we have such a favourable free kick count - we simply don't attack sides and have no physical aggression

The club needs to let Simpson release his inner campaigner - it's there just under the surface and it appears every now and then but he keeps it in check - and **** shit up

Missed the first half yesterday so I put myself through the pain of watching it just now. The hawks actually played like the hawks of last year, nothing like they have been playing the first 4 weeks. Not sure why this was the case, maybe just a case of knowing they are coming up against our underperforming mob. They can be far better than a 1-4 team though and Cyril single handily was worth about 3 goals on his own.

Masten and Redden were the worst on the ground by some margin. If these two aren't dropped then there is no accountability at this club, the only passable exception is if Gaff is injured so Masten gets a reprieve for team balance but even still I would be against this. Masten gave away two goal scoring opportunities a wayward forward 50 entry and a simple handball which is supposed to be his strength, he lost a couple of ground ball opportunities because he is so soft (Gaff also here) and the only time he decided to go in hard was on Bruest's head 20m out from goal. The only things I remember Redden doing were falling over going for a mark and getting caught htb due to a lack of awareness.

The gameplay was an issue, as others have said the corralling isn't suited to the G as it would be at Domain. For me, the workrate was a bigger problem. They outnumbered us at more contests and then were able to work their way out with handball too easily (corralling wasn't helping here). Too many of our played play soft around the loose balls and our centre bounce work is deplorable. The likes of Redden, Priddis and Sheed don't win enough clean ball to all be playing together and as soon as the ball splills out the likes of Gaff and Masten get beaten for intensity to win the loose ball. Gaff did this really well last week on a couple of occasions which is all the more frustrating.

We have a lot of dumb players who made dumb errors and our footskills were terrible at times and even from our top players like Shuey's turnovers and Kennedy missed set shots. We could've easily been much closer on the scoreboard if we used the ball better. This is a result of our mental demons and soft underbelly against the hawks at the G I feel.

Having said all that, I thought Nelson was excellent and Duggan was lively apart from a couple of average kicks. Barass also stood tall apart from being a tad unlucky on the goal line once. The young fellas were only ones who can hold their heads up really.

Some of my thoughts on the game:

- I always believed the reason Kennedy didn't kick many goals at the G was because of our deplorable midfield skills as well as shit house inside 50's. Well, this case proved to be half true. Our inside 50's were absolutely atrocious. The amount of times we bombed it in to a 2 V 1 situation was off the charts, and we never learned from it! Even the commentators were referring to this. Unfortunately this badly affected Kennedy's game and the Hawks defenders were loving every bit of it.

But that doesnt excuse Kennedy for some of his shots on goal. At some point in the game, Kennedy marked the ball 40-45 out and missed the set shot (surprise surprise). The hawks later in the game send the ball inside 50 to that ranga campaigner O'Brien, who marks in the same spot and GOALS in the same spot. Yes, you heard me, an unknown spud with orange ****ing hair kicked a goal from the same spot that OUR COLEMAN MEDALIST COULDN'T. Now, does that not say something about the mental fragility of our players?

- How long does it take to make some changes to a gameplan when it simply doesn't work? I mean the score difference was slowly escalating by each quarter and we did nothing but stick to the same plan. Mark the ball, use time to look around and spot a target, kick ball to a shite contest and turn it over. When does that change? And why are supporters seeing this and making a note of it whilst the coaches aren't? Why didn't we take the game on, make some run? Why the same shit??

- Our midfield is probably the worst in the comp at the moment. Priddis is old and past it (if he wasn't already), constantly being exposed for his poor pace and disposal. I loved his high helicopter kick in the last few mins of the game that didnt help anyone. Masten, the ****ing stat padder, plays like shit the entire game and when the game is over racks it up a bit to make himself look good. I think he was single handedly responsible for 3-4 goals yesterday. If he isn't dropped I'm gonna riot. Redden, hahahahaha, Redden is terrible a waste of a trade. I think he had 2 possessions in the first half alone. WHat happened to him? He racked it up with ease at the Lions. :(

- Our vision is terrible. At one point I saw Mcgovern mark a ball and send it inside 50. There were FOUR players waving there arms around looking for a mark in the middle of the 50 arc. When Mcgovern marked the ball, he didn't even look in their direction and instead blasted the ball out of bounds on the full. Can you guess where he was aiming? To a Kennedy sandwich.

It's why the flat track bully tag exists and is a big part of why we have such a favourable free kick count - we simply don't attack sides and have no physical aggression

This quote nails exactly why we have a great free kick count. We are soft and never go for the hard hits, even if it risks conceding a free kick. Other team supporters think its because we get an armchair ride (and yes we get it slightly better but thats always the case for the homeside) when it really has little to do with that. Instead they look at the differential to make their judgements.

I don't think Ive seen a game where we literally did not have the momentum of the match in our favour for the entire match. We had more momentum in the 2015 GF and we were getting flogged the whole time. At no point did it look like we were going to make a run at them. Hell I was sitting there thinking surely our moments going to come where we go on a run of 3 or 4 goals in a row and we get back into this. I then realized there was about 8 mins to go in the last and gave up, something the boys did 5 mins into the game.

Says a bit when your sitting there and your continually wondering if Hawthorn has an extra player on the field. The ball hit the ground and we continually either got crushed in trying to win possession or there was no one there for us but there was 3 hawks. It goes near certain players in a 1 on 1 and you already know that there going to fall over or put on a shit tackle that even I could break. Theres the reason for the free kick disreprency, our players dont tackle and do that bull shit put your arms out wide and "pressure them" (lol pressure) or they just get brushed off

Kennedy missed that early one and it almost seemed like everyone dropped there heads and started thinking about what movie they'd watch on the flight home. It was blatantly obvious that although the Darling handball was on in the first quarter JK did not want that shot for himself.

Got to inject some freshness into the side, get some enthusiasm, we cant just keep plodding along. Keep playing Sheed, Duggan, Nelson (great game yesterday btw). Get rid of the guys who if you dropped them you wouldnt even notice (Masten GTFO). If your going to play Gov in the ruck maybe get him practicing with midfield unit because he won a few taps into space but there was nobody ever there. Only play 1 of Giles or Vardy. My 2c

I'm assuming this was the real payoff for getting Sam Mitchell. The late draft pick was for show. The real agreement was to throw this game. It would explain the abortion I just watched.
Should have just drank light beer instead for 3 hours. Same feeling.
