I'd like rama instead of slattery in the back pocket at this point. Some of he fists he got to spoil the mark were excellent.
I think Rama is more suited to the wing or HBF. I say this because he doesn't cope extremely well when the ball is bombed in and he's one on one with his opponent. Two instances came late in the game on Friday night.
i guess you can't really blame him for the Dal Santo mark because he did the right thing by keeping him to ground, it was up to Atkinson or Dempsey to get the fist but against Birss, it wasn't a great effort. My point is, he isn't a shut-down defender and isn't hard to out mark.

Good call. I think Rama has shown a heap so far. He really looks like a player again, not just a person trying to recover from a lengthy layoff.

Every time I saw the ball in his hands I was confident that it would be used well. Unlike some other players where it's more of a hope. Great left boot.:thumbsu:

Regarding Monfries.

I'm pretty sure he's been handed the job of midfield tagger this season as Knights looks to develop his footy IQ for a future lead midfield role.

I know that everyone wants him to be racking up 20+ possession games but I don't think that's his job right now. He might be McVeigh like, and emerge as a key ball winner in a couple of years after a long apprenticeship playing a negating role.

Does anyone remember who he was tagging last night and if they had an influence on the game at all? If not, you have to say Monfries did his job and had a good game.

I'm pretty sure I saw Steven Baker with Monfries for a few minutes so maybe he was being tagged?

i think Eccles may be right.

i have identified Monfries as our no.1 tagger for 2008 also.
these Nab Cup games aren't taken too seriously. and i don't think hard tagging jobs have been very prominent.

thought Jay Neagle was our best player :thumbsu:

Ive been a bit of a bomber fan for awhile now (2nd team anyway) always love watching you guys play and I made some big predictions earlier on BigFooty saying you will be a top 4 chance this year and most jumped down my throat . Thank you for proving me right to the so called experts on here. I knew your young guns were ready to stand up and show everyone that they are a force. so bring on the season , bring on round 2 against the cats , should be one of the highlight games for me this year. well done bombers your a class side.

I have mixed feelings about the game:

Positives:
- Jay Neagle. Even when he wasn't kicking goals, was always a threat.
- Despite being smashed in the clearances, our pressure gave us opportunities.
- With the exception of the last quarter, we ran over them at the end of each quarter (unlike last year).
- Our junior players all contributed.
- Lost to a strong quality Top 4 contender, and we held our own.
- Might have been a different result if Lucas's kicking boot didn't fall off.
- Davey came good as the match progressed. It was good to see him taking on even the biggest opponents.
- No major injuries.

Negatives:
- Gave away too many frees. We should be tackling - not hugging the opposition (ie, no arms over the shoulder)
- We were smashed in the clearances.
- We were forced to play on their terms - out on the flanks, and we didn't have the same run as the last two weeks.
- Our 1 percenters were down on previous weeks.
- Laycock can take a great mark up forward. But needs to start converting.
- Courtney John's has to work on his repeated efforts, and influence a game. I believe he has the talent, but to my mind he hasn't shown anything more from last season.

Overall, I hope that the team learns from this loss. It wasn't a smashing we couldn't draw positives from. In my opinion it was the 1 percenters that lost us the game. And this is the time of the year to lose. Much better then when the season starts.

Angus should get some footage of WCE Chad Fletcher's early years..

We played our slowest side during the pre-season and we looked the slowest we have been.

It is the old guys and nto the new guys that are falling back into old habits. We look better playing more youth as they give us the run and excitement we need to move the ball quickly.

How many want to take back a few things they said about this game now ?
I think i was pretty much on the money in having a crack at how poor our accountability was in this game and we would be in trouble if it was repeated....
