I do, but our destiny was in our own hands in the second half and we fluffed it. We lost control of the ball and didn't have enough composure when they came at us. Of the things I'm disappointed by today, the umpiring just doesn't feature too much at all.

Fair enough too each their own.......but it would have been nice to have been on a level playing field today.

It's when he tries to kick the leather off it and daisy cutters. It goes to shit then. Needs to back it off a bit.
Agree. He can kick the ball reasonably but tries to bite off too much in important areas of the ground too often. Doesn't play the right %s given his skill level.

The Dees were kissed on the dick by the umps.

Whereas we couldnt buy one in our forward line. It was border line cheating.

We went to sleep in the middle in the 3rd quarter. Hack possessions out of the centre straight to Melbourne players who spread much quicker than our blokes.

We had our chances in the last but didn't capitalise when we broke forward of centre. Some poor decision making going inside 50.

Very frustrating, that's not our worst performance for the season. It's definitely equal with the GWS game as our worst loss though.

Unfortunately there goes the finals for this season.

Where to from here? So frustrating.

How can ppl be positive. We lost to a team missing their number 1 ruckman and full forward. We are just crap, face it!!
But if you get this much aggravation, why bother following sport?
Ulsers come from too much stress

What's wrong with positive, feels good, I reckon.q

But each to their own.

I am not a big Langdon fan but I would have played him the whole game on Petracca.....moving Howe onto him after half time didn't work. Langdon was good and bad exactly how he has been his whole career so far.

As for the "throw in Varcoe" post........that is exactly what I meant.........a fast HBF.

Even Crisp was not used well in the second half IMO.

crisp seemed to get dragged to far back. I do however like him in the backline.

In all seriousness, other than the second quarter we didn't play very good at all. The first quarter was close, but we didn't make the most of our opportunities and gave away a few ridiculous turn overs in the back half, otherwise could've been up by more.

After half time we looked absolutely spent. That was magnified by the pace of sheep dog Garlett and also in particular Hunt. Pace is something we were severely lacking at times.

We didn't look like scoring in the second half. When we did it almost came out of nowhere half of the time. We were gone the entire half. There were about 3 ridiculous calls in the last few minutes which really got to me, but other than that, we lost that game on effort.

I'm not sure if it's Melbourne's bye or what the story was, but the effort we were putting in during the second quarter couldn't be sustained. If Petracca and co were hitting their shots we could have easily lost by 4 goals.

I'd like him to say I'm a little bit slow in the head for thinking Smith will do a better job than Ramsey on Garlett and admit he was a ****wit for not playing Greenwood on Jones.

Probably a big ask I know...

I guarantee that if Smith was dropped after playing a good game last week in favour of Ramsay there would have been an outcry in here. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Easy answer say our players are butchers (we all saw it) and say the umpires are cheats (we all saw it).....case closed!

I'm sure I've heard Buckley state multiple times that our turnovers and poor disposals have cost us dearly. Coming out and publicly shaming players isn't good management. I expect these to be focused on in game reviews and that's where it should stay.

He also obviously can't say the umpires are cheats, no matter how true it is. (Answer: very)

Very funny you must be a barrel of laughs at a party sunshine.
Twisting words can't change facts.

I acknowledged your facts, just don't agree with the purported significance of them. Didn't mean to upset you.

And yes, I go quite alright at parties.

His kicking was abysmal today.......I won't hang him.....but he owes us because his performance for a leader was sub standard today.......I am sure he knows that.

Open your eyes.

We gave Melbourne THEIR ENTIRE FIRST HALF SCORE.

Take that away and the game is over at half time.

Melbournes first 4 goals. 2 from skill errors and 2 from terrible umpiring decisions.

When we kicked 4 goals clear we had another 2-3 goal scoring chances to kill the game. We should have been 7-8 goals up at half time. We gave them a sniff and then we went to sleep after half time.

imagine if elliott was playing, throw in a wells or a varcoe. or imagine if we had a cloke in his former days.

I dont know much, but, my gut feeling is, a couple more good to great players, we're a good temam

Dont you think?

Throw in Gawn and Hogan for them....

The persistent talk about umpires is, I think, a bit sad. .

Normally I would agree with this. Normally I find the umpire bashing or blaming cringe worthy.
Not today. I mentioned it in another thread and I will repeat it here. It was the first time in my life where I have watched a game and honestly believed there was some cheating going on. I am not using it as an excuse for the loss, despite the fact that it was the main reason we lost. I am just saying that there was a clear bias in the umpiring today.

"Yeah we had a good start .... but couldn't maintain it ..... we had too many passengers, not enough contributors .... but we will lick our wounds and regroup. We still believe we can play finals."

He actually said "lowered our colours" again :'(:'(:'(

Come on manicmagpie but what iota of difference will it make if he said our players turnovers cost us too many goals today.........would he be lying?

The same as the umpiring.......cop the $20,000 fine and put it on record that the AFL is corrupt.
It won't make a difference but I don't GAF.

He is about to go on talking footy I hope he lets loose...........yes I am selfish but I hope he does.

I think Scharenberg has footy smarts, but i worry his physical attributes will be exposed in the back half the way the game is played now. Scahrenberg will need to be brilliant with the ball to stay in the team, he wanst that today, but was a kind of 5 out of 10 game from him. Had a few kicked on him.

Langdon, despite what morons around here think, has great athletic abilities and is actually quick and very good one on one defensively. All in all, the way Smith played today, our back half was always gonna struggle. Still i think the setup we had today is worth persisting with.

I'd just like the club to back up what its members are saying. At what point do you call a spade a spade?
