I'm still reeling hours after the match concluded. The umpires were blatantly cheating, especially in the last five minutes of the match. I don't think I've ever flipped my shit at the umpires after a game the way I did yesterday. The only time I can recall the umpiring being as bad as that was against Adelaide in 2013, but thankfully we won by 27 points that night.

However, in saying that, we relinquished a 28 point lead unfortunately and that's the reality of it. I think Melbourne's ramped up the intensity against us, we could not sustain what we produced in the second quarter and fatigue may have set in from last week's trip especially with Melbourne having the luxury of the bye.

The second quarter was exhilarating football. I regard it as the best quarter of football we've played all year. We were efficient going forward, accurate in front of goals, running in big numbers and the relentless tackling pressure against Melbourne was brilliant.

Elliott was a massive loss for us. He would have made a difference had he played today, so Melbourne benefited from his absence, but I guess we benefited off the absences of Gawn and Hogan so it evened out somewhat.

Disappointing we're not in 6th because we had a massive opportunity and just fell short in the end. However, I don't think yesterday's loss means that we're out of finals contention just yet. It certainly making things a little more difficult at 5-7, but I think we're still in with a shot, so I don't think we should give up as supporters.

A top 8 team would have grabbed back momentum after they got 4/5 goals unanswered.

We are a fair way off.

I suspect they know this year is done hence playing Brown, gifting Moore games.

Play the kids and reload for 2018

Maynard and Scharenberg a combined 0 tackles - for two back flankers playing against the shortest forward line in the competition to lay no tackles whatsoever is really disappointing. Surely they could have grabbed a hold at least one of Harmes, Garlett or Hannan during the afternoon but nope. It's times like these where I'd like to have Marley Williams back in the side because now we have no smalls but for the always-injured Sinclair. Maynard and Shaz were both very solid attacking wise, albeit some poor decisions from Shaz but defensively, they weren't good enough and it's little things like these that change the game completely.

Great points. That's why I suspect Power will dominate in a fortnight.

Played well the first half, ran out of steam in the second. Umpiring stuffed us as well, but shouldn't have let ourselves get into that position in the first place with all the play we had up until half time.

But have to say God help us if Adams becomes our next captain. He would demoralise the rest of the team each game "leading" from the front with his atrocious kicking skills and turnovers. Anyone who in all serious thinks he is even an average kick needs their head read. He is really shocking.
He's in my gun this week. That performance today was something of a VAFL D4 reserves footballer.

As simple as it sounds our mids were just behind their opponent at every stoppage and the half forwards stood back and let their opponents give run from behind. How AFL players can make these fundamental mistakes and not adjust is a killer. We also lack explosive pace to shark the ruck.
So not coaching?

Do it consistently we make the 8
Do it consistently we're top 4, do yourself a favour and look up AFL tables for team stats this year those numbers don't belong to a frustration machine like we are.

And yeah we looked good in the 1st half, I went to the Freo game talk about gutsy, I got excited when we run rings around Geelong this year and last year and gws . I had optimism in 14 & 15 when we were 8 and 3 at round 11 and what happens every flipping time; false dawn! Thought finally we're getting some continuity over the last 4 rounds and then after half time today like a switch we went back to that f****** up missing targets and turn over to opposition bullshit we've seen ever since well 2013. flipping over it!:mad::mad:

By the way this is not directed at you - just having a melt at our team, like a f******n stripper just a tease and nothing will come of it

<50 games Dees 9, Pies 10
<100 games Dees 5, Pies 6
AV age Dees 25 year 0 months, Pies 23 years 9 months

Don't think it was a factor.

Think it's certainly a factor when we are playing Brown, Langdon, Crocker... because Wells, Goldsack, Reid and Elliot are missing. No way the club runs out with an inexperienced side like that if given the choice.

Think we accounted well for ourselves considering.

Totally empathise with what your saying.
One difference between this year and 2014 and 2015 (at least in my eyes). Yeah in those years we started off really well as far as win loss goes - partly because we had a soft draw - but I never felt like we were actually playing good footy.
This year when we do play well it is impressive, it's good footy. Your right the inconsistency is frustrating but I see a glimmer of hope their.
Time will tell I guess.

Also I think we have for quite a long time, due to injuries and list turnover, lacked a core group of players who have played a significant amount of football together. We don't discuss this much on this forum but I think it plays a real big role in our inconsistency.

I'm ok with melts mate. But in all honesty your an amateur. If you want to see some real melts have a look at some of mine from earlier on in the year. I'm the melt master.

While some dees fans have added balanced opinion to the discussion (some have been seen on the 'pies board before) and these posters are always welcome what's with the other obvious shit stirrers who are coming out of the woodwork after a very fortuitous win? It's like they think we care about their club and that the rivalry which died decades ago is alive.

Have calmed down somewhat now.
Said pre-game it could go either way and we sorely missed a couple of players that's for sure.
Will watch the replay again at some stage this week to have another look at those contentious umpiring decisions.

Have a couple of mates and family who barrack for Melbourne and they seem to think they were very lucky with a few and couldn't believe a couple they were gifted, must be a BigFooty thing for those who think otherwise.

One thing is now for certain, my hatred for Melbourne has deepened and I wish them nothing but an unsuccessful future.

I don't, we keep seeing the glimmer like a mirage on the horizon - it's fake

Like many clubs, lasts years premier comes to mind!, no excuse for us

I've discussed this last year and the year before, which ever way you put it good teams overcome that - poor teams; like us tease with potential but it's been too long now and no one has an answer. What's worse IF there would be answer the club won't tell us, they'll just spin about how good we SHOULD be

Stop killing my vibe.
It's the first time in a long time that I have actually felt a glimmer of hope and your sh***g on my parade.
Now be off with you.

“But we did enough to put ourselves in a position to win and I think part of being a consistently good team is winning by enough to buffer the things that don’t go your way from a luck perspective.”

As I said. Had we been up by 8-10 goals like we should have been, umpiring becomes irrelevant.

Why are Melbourne supporters insistent on coming over to our board to defend the umpiring?

What are they trying to achieve other than stirring up trouble? I don't get it.

As night follows day, nothing is more certain than opposition supporters crawling across our board after a loss. I don't get it either, rather juvenile really.

Went to my first game for the year yesterday and was generally really happy with how we played. The second quarter was as good as we have played since the game last year against GWS.

Umpires seemed to make mistakes that went the Dees' way, but that may be part bias. But the Dunn arm chop in the first was right in front of me and just should not have been paid.

Main downside for me was some of the backline panic when the heat was on. Part composure with the ball and part teammates not working to the right spots.

My simple view - Jamie plays and we win.

Watched the replay of 1st and last Q just now with the passion taken out somewhat. There were a few decisions that were 50:50 that went against us but none hurt much. In the cold light of day the umpires didn't cost us Melbourne were just a bit better when it mattered. We showed a bit yesterday but we are a middle of the road team still with improvement needed before we play finals again. There were positives yesterday, just have to improve.
