I'm not saying that his point was correct, in fact I disagree with him. But you took it in a whole new direction to suit yourself.

I put it in perspective of the series. Suddenly we're down grading test cricket and the like when such a pitch was no minefield. At the Gabba he took 1 for 104 and then takes 9 for the match in his third outing in test cricket. thorne89 has taken it in respect of what the pitch was and that he is going to be a middle of the road bowler. So what?

Yeah, fair enough, it wasn't bad. In fact, it was good. The YouTube title is a little misleading haha. And you say those pitches have done stuff for all, mainly true, but that pitch was pretty damn green; surely you can acknowledge that.

I'm just saying I'd loved to have bowled at the current Australian batting line-up on that pitch. ;)

True, he exposed their weak techniques but you've still got bowl on them.

That's true, but it seemed a bit weird that you were jumping from a spell of bowling to an entire series !

For what its worth, I agree

Not sure why everyone's arguing about rating Bracewell as a bowler. The thread is about people's "favourite bowling spells" and Bracewell did bowl a great spell that won his side a test match that they were looking like they were going to lose in a memorable finish.

To use a football analogy, Toby Thurstans kicking 4 in an AFL Grand Final is not indicative of his overall talent as a player, but the facts are he kicked those goals on the day and deserves to be lauded for that performance regardless of the rest of his career. I agree with thorne that Bracewell is just a good average swing bowler, but that spell was one of the better ones that I have seen.

My most memorable both come from the 2005 Ashes. McGrath embarrasing the English top order on his way to 5/21 at Lord's and this over from Flintoff when Australia were looking solid in chasing down 282 at Edgbaston:

Ball 1: on a hattrick from the previous innings, blocked away by Langer
Ball 2: knocks over Langer with a beauty from around the wicket
Then proceeds to hit Ponting on the pads consecutively with large LBW shouts, with Ponting not getting his bat anywhere near the ball for 4 balls in a row, then bowls a no-ball on the 6th which was unlucky for Ponting as finally on the 7th he feathers an edge to a perfect leg cutter.

Never seen a bowler make Ponting look like that. It was only an over, but it completely changed the game and the series.

Still have to pick Curtly Ambrose at the WACA in 1993 against Australia. 7-1 against a pretty good team, on a first day pitch is an amazing effort. The pitch wasn't that bad either - West Indies made 340-odd with few problems immediately after. Ambrose was just in a different league.

Then to follow up Bishop took a fairly useful 6-40 in the second innings to polish them off. They were a short-lived duo but fearsome when firing.

Dennis Lillee against the world XI. The best part about it was they were world class players. The first few you could argue it's like a representative soccer game where they are just in it for the laugh, but eventually they got faidinkum and he still got them out.

For mine, the best spell of bowling I've seen.. was Shane Bond with the new ball in NZ vs the Aussies a few years back in One Dayer. He bowled consistent unplayable balls. Doubt there'd be any youtube footage of it but it was sensational.

Glenn McGraths spell at lords in 05 is best I've seen. Also Mitch Johnsons against South Africa where he bowled that awesome yorker to Boucher before lunch.

Why hasn't anyone posted any Warnie spells yet, it should be a thread of its own!

There was his 7/23 against Pakistan back in his prime, at the Gabba, think it was on youtube.

Then a lot of his spells against the Poms which I'm sure would be uploaded somewhere as well

Best spell I've ever seen though was the Pigey McGrath spell 05 at Lords, every ball was ****ing unplayable

Who plays finals in spring?

When I say 'recently' I actually mean March 2012. This year has gone ridiculous fast.

FWIW though I actually do live in Abu Dhabi and our cricket season is every season except summer, for obvious reasons.

Is it much higher than village cricket standard?

At the academy I used to play at I would say the standard was much higher than the junior club cricket I was playing at in Perth. However it is a shallow talent pool admittedly. I've played with some really sensational talents, three of my team mates were UAE U/19 reps at the age of about 16.

Most of the kids are Indian/Pakistani so they all have a background in cricket.

The double hattrick, like any other hattrick really, was a bit of a fluke, rather than it being because the opposition were useless. :p
