James Rowbottom's sister, Charlie - a Melbourne girl, studying at Melbourne Uni for the AFLW draft has nominated Queensland as the state she would like to be drafted to.
1. The AFL draft does not allow prospects to nominate a state
2. Has an AFL draftee "advertised" that they would like to be drafted elsewhere (no need to get into the Dunkley staying in Victoria discussion)
3. Glad James is signed to 2024

Completely different rules for AFLW due to the non-professional status.

Prospective draftees can nominate a state based draft pool for work and study reasons.

She has nominated Queensland for work purposes.

Wishing Charlie all the best in her job and AFLW Draft tomorrow night

Great for Charlie to have her brother on facetime when announced as #1 draft pick to GCS

James inviting Charlie to join Swans when we have our AFLW team :)

Just a little thought. Now that Hewee is back in the mids and with Millsie back we can now set up two starting midfield line ups.

The first has to be Kennedy/Parker as the bullock team w either Rowie or Warner as the outside receivers

Then you have Mills/Hewee as the insiders and Warner receiving.

This can be tweeted a bit with Kennedy ot Parker and Rowie inside and Ollie out.

Mills could start with ether Parker or Rowie and Hewee outside. Hewee might not be fast but he is elusive, makes good decisions and delivers the ball really well

These are centre square starting line ups.

I think our strength is we have many players who can run through the mids. Paps, Heens, Dawson, Gulden, Campbell.

What do you think?

Kinda had this discussion with Kapers and SGBeach the other day in a different thread. I like your thinking and I think it's really important we do more to involve our young mids.

But a month out from one of the more unlikely flag tilts I can recall, look at where they are at...

Rowbottom I have pretty much accepted is done for the year. Has fought on pretty admirably but he's not at 100% and won't get to 100% this year, and we can't go into a final carrying kids who aren't at 100%, so it's unlikely he is part of our finals equation unless there's injuries.

Warner will likely only just make his VFL return this week, may not be in the frame for senior selection until a fortnight out from finals. No guarantee he even gets back in this team, and if he does, with our midfield mix looking very settled it's unlikely he has large midfield rotations.

Florent has been heavily on the wing this year, averaging only about 25% CBAs all year really, so is more relevant to the discussion about our outside group (McInerney, Dawson, Gulden, Heeney etc.)

So I've been as vocal as anyone about the need to properly regenerate our midfield but we are so close to finals now and a very real push for a flag, and the youngsters with their current circumstances just won't give us our best chance at pulling off that feat. So it's almost more a conversation that should be saved for the pre-season as we back this current mix in and then try and reinvent the midfield with the younger names next year.

We've gone from, "We need to fix our midfield set up" to "Hold up a minute, this is working????"
We are looking good with young midfielders, but at this point, we might as well go full Geelong and play the team that can take us furthest in the finals.

Hewett has been the difference and I will not be told otherwise. He changes the entire make-up of our midfield as he's the only one who is not a headless chook, and he's outstanding at finding his outside mids/half backs pushing up. I was not banging on about his worth in the midfield for no reason. JPK has also jumped on board with the cleanest month of footy he has played in years.

I'll also say that if Rowbottom and Warner were both fit right now then I'd maybe still want to switch things up in the midfield to get them more involved ahead of finals. But Rowbottom hasn't been fit all year, and Warner won't be fit for a few weeks yet, so it's sorta like... why bother trying to rejig the midfield with youth when the youth is barely available?

A question, but who was it who used to do the Swans podcast. I really miss that and it was great not having to skip through an hour of VFL talk to get to the minute segment they have on us. I know it takes a lot of effort and I'm not putting my hand up. Just saying It was great and would be nice to hear coming into finals.
