I went back to finish my schooling as a 23yr old, four nights per week at night school, finishing at 10pm, while still working full time, just to complete the subjects I needed to get into Engineering at Uni. Some great teachers made all the difference to me.

I am in awe of great teachers. My mum was a teacher, my sister is a teacher, my brother-in-law is a school headmaster and yet another sister is a former teacher, now a psychologist, who still works in schools. She helps kids to overcome barriers to learning. I have so much admiration for those who teach and genuinely love teaching.

The most noble thing anyone can do is to share their knowledge amd love of learning with others, to take the time to engender curiosity which leads to a deep desire to learn. Parents who take the time to teach and nurture their kids' curiosity, who work with teachers rather than against them. They're champions too.

I have a renewed respect for you Rusty.

I had taught TAFE for 17 years up until afew years ago. Like I said mostly IT but some literacy and maths and a bit of other stuff. I retired for a few years to care for my parents who both passed away early last year. I wanted to spend some time with them.
I got bored so I completed a Cert 3 in School Based Education Support at Bendigo TAFE late last year.
I won Student of The Year : Community award and was presented with the award on 21/2/2024 at Bendigo TAFE annual awards night. Two days ago. I also won $500 from La Trobe University. I was voted top student in the Community courses which include Child Care, Education, Nursing, Justice, Aged Care, Disability plus a few others. Quite an honour and I am feeling very proud.
I am currently working at a primary school specifically in Maths and Literacy Intervention. Kids having trouble in both of those areas I am working with them. I love it when I teach and they learn and have fun learning.
I am also creating indigenous content for their curriculum which I have a lot of experience with. And today I got another job from the school. I am in charge of the students who empty the bins from each classroom on Friday afternoons. Bin Boy!!

You and me have crossed swords a few times along the way. But i have always enjoyed it. i like a good protagonist. Some of the best fights I have ever had in my life were against guys that turned out to be my best mates. Guys don't bear grudges.
Would be nice to have a beer sometime.

Nick Larkey is an underrated star. If he were playing for a different club we would hear more about him. We hear so much more about the King twins, JUH, Aaron Naughton and possibly Jye Amiss and even Logan McDonald, and I rate Larkey higher than all of those currently. Whether some of them can overtake Larkey remains to be overseen but if Larkey can maintain, let alone build on, his form from last year that will take a lot of doing!

I struggle to rate him too highly comparatively to the other forwards you mentioned because he is basically a non-factor if he doesn’t mark the ball inside 50. Doesn’t get a touch otherwise, so he doesn’t create opportunities for teammates much either, and doesn’t provide any pressure at all (less than 1 tackle a game every season).

He is very much an archaic full forward, which he does get the most out of being that type of player to be fair.

Sure, every club would have at least one player who uses recreational drugs. It is highly, highly likely that we have a few on our list.

Considering they are highly paid athletes and rec drugs can cause health issues, underperformance, addictions, financial issues and potential for pissing away a career, severely doubt majority would use.

There is also a big range of user types:
Once or twice a year
Occasional
Regular
Addicts
With lots in between.
That last lot we don't want but the first couple for sure you can guarantee we have some. Would prefer none but that would be unrealistic.

Have a few mates who have been on AFL lists and have spoken quite in-depth about the state of drugs in footy. They all laugh at this idea that AFL players are loose units with too much money to know what to do with.

Not really.

I think they benefit from the X-factor and unpredictability that is obviously negated if we start using them more often.

Opposition coaches and players would prepare for Parker, Mills, Rowbottom & Warner. They get Heeney & Papley and it's obviously going to throw a spanner in the works and prove effective.

In saying that, last year Heeney was only our 6th-best centre clearance player per centre bounce attendance, and only our 6th-best player at turning his first-possessions into centre clearances.
