Has anyone else been unable to re-watch the qualifying final win given the way the season ended?

One of the greatest games in the club's history, the most exhilarating game I've attended after the 2012 GF and 2022 prelim, one of the great all time performances from Heeney, and I simply can't bring myself to rewatch it, or even enjoy the highlights.

It's an absolute sickness.

I mean, I haven't rewatched it since the GF, but that's because it probably doesn't even crack my top 50 most impressive Swans wins. If you think it's that great though, maybe try to focus on that aspect of it. Think of it as a single historic Swans event you will want to revisit, like Plugger's point, Micky O screaming in the West Coast fans' faces, Nick Davis come to save us, or Buddy's 1000th, rather than a game that meant something in the context of a serious flag tilt.

Or maybe it will just take time and distance to be able to see it like that.
John Sudholtz goal against the Filth at the Lake Oval in 70 to put us in the finals for the first time since the Bloodbath GF in 45. Peter Mckenna had a shot at goal which went through , but luckily the siren went just before he kicked it . Pandemonium set in as it was like the whole of South Melbourne ran on the ground , a young fella from the cheer squad said bad luck and McKenna gave him a clip , the young lad had to go in the Filth rooms and McKenna apologised and it's in his book . That and the 96 and 05 Prelims are my greatest .

My greatest is considerably more tame than that LOL. The Swans vs Giants derby in Perth, the 2020 COVID year. What a shite season that was, from the losses to injuries to empty stadiums. Then for one night, about 10,000 Swans fans were crammed onto one side of Optus Stadium to watch us keep the corporation from Western Sydney to just 3 goals, all from incredibly dubious free kicks. And in my humble opinion, it was the arrival of our new game style, and it looked bloody good to watch.

Remember that 1970 game. Lake Oval was going off. 2003 Qualifying final v Port was huge as well. We turned a corner that day. Started to truly believe.

On a different note, my son was telling me about a candidate in the upcoming Federal seat of McNamara who wants to turf both the Port Melbourne Cricket and Football clubs off North Port oval. Is this true? Two of the oldest sporting clubs in Australia.

It's the Liberal candidate and he's a rat , the AFL want to have it as the home of girls footy , pull down the Aus Post building behind and build an inferior ground for PMCC , after 125 years that's not on

I actually thought about this a few days ago. And I just lost motivation to watch the Swans knowing what happened the week after.

Where does significant improvement come from?

The offseason is a ~6 month break with a lot of it being a break for the players but fans always expect improvement (even drastic improvement) for certain players and some do improve that much.

What happens in the offseason that magically makes a player better?

Fitness? Skills? But coaches complain about the reduced contact hours.

So what changes for a player to go to the next level

Maturity , ability and confidence , hope that helps

The off-season is not really a break. It is a break from the club, and a chance to spend time with friends & family, but it's also the main opportunity for players to get stronger & fitter & better at whatever their particular focus for the next year is. That's when they all do their individual-based programs, whether it's to add size or increase their tank or gain speed and agility.

Once footy's back, there's not much they can do about those things, because the focus becomes about conditioning and getting from game to game, week to week, and things like skill sessions and game plan-related drills. It's why there's such an emphasis on the shape players return to pre-season in after their breaks.

I know i only live 10 mins down the road from the lions training facilities, but getting a membership drive email from them that I didn't sign up to receive is just rude. Unsubscribe.

Thinking about it, I can only assume they got my email when I signed my son up for Auskick this year. The local club is likely affiliated with the lions given how close they are.

Speaking of auskick, how exciting that my son gets his photo with the premiership cup at auskick tomorrow (insert sarcastic tone here) he'll be wearing his swans guernsey.

I've been coerced into doing the ice-bucket challenge at work. Staff who make a donation to charity get to dump a bucket of ice water on "management".

"Management" needs to nominate and wear their team colours for it.

I'm the only one who'll be in Swans gear (among a sea of West Coast and Freo) .... and am easily the most popular target for bucket dumping.

Not sure if its a reflection on me, or West Aussie's hatred of the Swans.

Probably me.

It may end up being the closest a Swans guernsey gets to that cup :(

Yeah, I reckon it'll be you.

I was at that game and it is still my best memory of South. The crowd was as I recall it, 3000 above the the official capacity of the ground. There was a realisation amongst the supporters that we could make history and defeat the Collingwood juggernaut with the newfound faith instilled by Norm Smith.

It was an epic battle for the whole game and we were 21 points down with three and a half minutes to go. The Collingwood players were chatting and smiling telling each other that had had it won Then Stevie Hoffman ( loved Stevie) and Sudzy kicked goals when it mattered and we won by a point. The siren sounding half a second before McKenna kicked the goal was the cream on the cake. We all got our money's worth that day

Will never forget that day including the clip from McKenna

Swans I really rate:
Heeney
Rowie
Gulden
Chad
Grundy
Blakey
Papley

Rest I’d be happy to trade for an upgrade.

Ruthless list management wins you flags.

JHWF - on the angry pills today
Wow. What extremely controversial selections there JHWF.

I like sedated posters.
