I didn't realise that Charlie Gardiner is working with Collingwood these days.

I like going to the SCG as a fan because it's our home ground, but the surface is embarrassing right now and if we could bulldoze it down and start again that would be great.

I'll admit I didn't pay much attention to the surface when I went, but from a viewing perspective the SCG is by far the best ground to watch the footy at. The lighting is amazing and the colours on the jumpers and in the stands etc. really pop. And the old stand looks incredible at night as well.

It is objectively a very sexy stadium. They just need to figure out WTF they are doing with the turf.

Optus isn’t too shabby either.

Pity about the teams that tend to play there.

Worst I’ve been to is Homebush. That was soulless when we used to play out there.

They've had a problem at the Paddington (city) end with the root mat. My guess is the heavy rains plus lack of sunlight have been the issue. 4 weeks ago they put warming lamps on the area and it improved significantly. The chunk that came out yesterday was very deep so it was the same problem.

The centre square is an issue too, few are close to injury, Warner and jmac yesterday for instance
Sadly the centre square issue won't be solved anytime soon. Hopefully whenever funding is received to replace the older stands, the AFL and Swans will stomp up and down and force the cricket trust to do something about it. At that point, they could design the new stand(s) to allow the square to be removed effectively in its entirety/large chunks (rather than in much smaller sections like is done in some places) - it would need space being found somewhere in the Moore Park precinct for the pitch 'nursery', but there should be enough of a bargaining chip at that point to make it happen.

The 2nd rate treatment we get at the ground, despite being just as an important tenant as the cricket teams is an absolute disgrace.

A couple of grandstands need to be demolished

Will every ex-coach that still wants to coach go into media?

It seems hearing anyone talk footy on a radio or afl show somehow makes them a better coach than they were. Horse excluded.

But somehow bucks and simmo are now god tier coaches in the waiting because they speak well on tele or radio (as coaches should)

Simpson won a flag with an interstate side against a team playing on their home deck. That's right up there against any other top coaches.

Cricket played there for over a hundred and fifty years. We get a good run there as a relative johnny come lately.

Eagles beat Pies in Perth in Qualifying Final and still had to travel to play on Collingwood's home ground. Farcical. There are a few flags that should have an asterisk next to them, including Richmond v Adelaide in 2017.

There is no way the whole table can be removed as one , anyhow they would start again as what's there would be in layers

Of course they will start again, that is an entirely different issue.

But a key reason given against not looking into removable pitches beyond the basic 'yeh nah' to this point is that access restrictions would necessitate an option where it is removed in much smaller pieces, which (rightly or wrongly) is seen as a vastly inferior option compared to larger parts (whatever size/proportion that may be - I'm no expert). I think MCG/Optus do it broadly on a pitch and a bit width at a time, but that of course needs a substantially larger 'exit space' to get the machinery out as well. I suspect our ground as it stands would need it to be done in much narrower strips than that, as there just isn't the obvious exit points for the major machinery.

When they do build a new stand on the Driver Avenue side, it opens up the obvious option to tailor the stand/area to allow for easy access for removal of the pitches, in line with whatever is needed in terms of size. It is the point in time that I suspect the argument will be won - but it could easily be 10, 15 or 20 years away yet.

Do we really though? We've now been there 40 + years, and still get fairly shabby treatment on a fairly regular basis. The indifference taken to addressing the turf issues this year a perfect example.

Fair recognition and support of the importance of the ground as a footy ground alongside a cricket ground is not an unreasonable expectation, especially when we aren't talking about drawing 5,000 people crowds any more - we are financially just as important as cricket is to the viability of the SCG - noting its more complex for the wider organization in broader terms with the Footy stadium next door. But noting the same traits often can be seen there with the 'alternate' tenant (in that case A-League over the Summer) getting fairly inferior service compared to the winter season rugby league tenant.

We are bigger than cricket there and need to be treated like that .
Maybe not in my lifetime but stands will be relaced and the ability to drop pitches in will be the norm
