I'd love it if we could get him to play that way, I'd even accept him as a bruise free footballer if he could have even half the impact that Jetta did. But he's becoming another Jesse White literally every time we play him. You don't know what effort you're going to get from him, even though he tries. You don't know what impact you're going to get from him, even though he's always out of position on his haunches. If he could learn to kick it like Jetta does, then great.
Yeah fair enough, I guess we just have totally different opinions on him. In the early part of last season I thought Rohan was terrific in a few games, particularly watching live where you could see the distance he was sprinting just make it to a contest to spoil.

It'll be really interesting to see how he goes if he can string together a solid run of injury free games. That's a big if, I know.

But I also think he, and Reid, would benefit from being given an extended run in a single position. They're our utility players who get shoved in whichever gap we need them, so it's not surprising they seemingly struggle to convince some of us of their worth.

It's a fair point, but they're only being played that way because they've failed to cement their own position in the team. If both Towers and Rohan are fit at the same time, and Towers gets games ahead of Rohan, you know that he's just not up to the required standard, regardless if he does or doesn't have screws in his leg. Granted, Rohan has been injured since the start of the season (when isn't he?), so the next 3-4 weeks will give us an idea of where he factors in to the clubs' plans.

Absolutely, really big test for Rohan over the next 6 weeks or so.

I suspect Reid would have nailed down the CHF position had it not been for the recruitment of Tippett and Franklin.

Or that shoulder injury that basically derailed his 2013 season and stunk it up in 2014.

Chunky Reid's 2013 season was ruined by back to back quad injuries. He did hurt his shoulder early in the 2012 season but played on as was required and came into form

Do you remember that game he had against North in 2013 when he hurt his shoulder? Round 3 or 4? Then couldn't lift his arms above his head for literally the rest of the season.

Yeah, that shoulder injury that was clear as day and clearly hampered him in literally every single marking contest, even uncontested ones. The one you expect the club to say he's playing through soreness, something really, but nothing, even though he was clearly playing restricted, but had no choice until Tippet could start playing.

I do remember the North game in 2013 in Hobart and the come from behind win with the 11 goal third quarter.

But Reid wasn't injured that day and this link proves it: http://www.afl.com.au/match-centre/2013/3/nmfc-v-syd and the 3 things we learnt thread from the match was more concerned about his form: https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/3-things-you-learnt-from-kangaroos-v-swans.998818/ No injury talk.

I think your thinking of the Freo game in Round 2 in 2012 where he did hurt his shoulder after a bump from Zac Dawson and took a few weeks to get back into form.

2.03 is the relevant point

Yeah I was there that day. Mal also got poleaxed too if memory serves me correctly.

It bugs the hell outta me when commentators continue to call Polec, POLAK.

Its not hard is it

You're a tough judge chunky. I don't disagree with you entirely, but let's just see how he goes when he comes back.
Brett Meredith will kill it this year, he was injury affected in 2011-2012 but lets see how he goes when he comes back

I was just as excited and devastated about Rohan when he finally started getting games in 2012. 4 years on I find it hard to believe he's still on the list. He's got some ability and a lot of pace, but never really seems to be able to put it all together at the same time.

I'd really like him to prove me wrong.

I remember both games, we lost 3 quarters and still won the game. I'm sure it was that game since he stunk it up in 2013 and couldn't mark it to save himself.

I remember a contest against Thompson when he went for a mark, landed awkwardly, and afterwards couldn't mark it at all, or lift his arm properly. He couldn't clunk it for weeks afterwards and it was like as if he'd lost confidence altogether.

I might be wrong but something about Reid and that game sticks to my mind.

I know what you mean, I honestly don't know about him at this point. I genuinely think he could go either way.

This is more of a list discussion question, but seeing as the drafting etc posts are going to wait till after the Bye I have a technical question re: rookie upgrades if anyone is on-the-ball for rookie upgrade rules.

So Gary Rohan was on LTI list was in the same public release as Papley being upgraded from rookie as injury cover (prior to week 1).

Does anyone know which person's spot Papley is taking (surely its Johnson's yeah?) I mean when Rohan comes back we dont loose Paps right?

When a player is placed on the LTI list they have a minimum games they are required to be out (Reason why players on a 4 week injury are not placed on the LTI list).

As we have on the LTI: Johnson/Rohan that is 2 rookie upgrades. We also have an extra rookie upgrade as we are going in with the minimum list. Therefore theoretically Papley could stay up regardless.

I think the swans staff would have done their homework before elevating in regards to the rules.

Yeah, thought that was the case re: min list, but just never heard which one we went for when we upgraded him.

I dont think it matters that much. If it was for Rohan, we could downgrade Papley and then upgrade him in place of Johnson etc.... Basically, he can play the whole season if we want him to.

id be surprised if they didn't raise him from the rookie list with our extra spot to be honest

Agreed,

Just on a side note, in recent history have any rookie listed players played all games in their first season? I cant recall it happening in a persons first season, i know a few did it 2nd/3rd.

The extra spots (or nominated rookies) had to be used before the start of the season. Now Papley can only stay on the Senior List as long as we have a LTI opening. Hence why we promoted him with Rohan's spot, use that short term and if still needed he'll moved over to AJ's spot. Means a future promotion (Newman really) would be based on a long term injury to someone else.

With what you are saying, I dont disagree with. I knew they could switch the rookie across LTI listed players.

As Papley was upgraded before round 1, I have a question you might not be able to answer. Wouldn't they have done that as a nominated rookie prior to the start of the season? Wouldn't it be counter intuitive to upgrade him in a spot that might vanish if there is a guaranteed spot with a nominated rookie that you have to use or lose.

Thanks robbieando !! This is what I was trying to clear up.

Hi guys,

Just a quick question what's the best pub in sydney to watch the Anzac day game at? Can imagine pubs playing the game with sound on a decent screen are few and far between.

I live in Cronulla but more than happy to travel

Not from Sydney but was at Jackson's on George in the CBD watching the Adelaide/Hawks game. Was a pretty good spot.
