We let Hewett go so we could keep others. We just resigned Heeney, Parker and McDonald. Need to resign McInerney, Lloyd, Florent and McCartin. Next season we need to resign Mills, Warner and Papley. This excludes Cunningham and Buddy.

We had to make a sacrifice somewhere and it was Hewett.

logic and common sense have no place here!

Aliir is a different situation because in losing Aliir we gained Hickey. Hewett though, we lost him for nothing so there is no "well if we still had Hewett we would not have XXXX player"
That is not exactly true. There is an opportunity cost for every decision. As supporters, it may not be obvious what that opportunity cost would’ve been had we kept Hewett. I agree, at the moment, the opportunity cost of letting him go means that our team is worse off in its current state.

Look what you've done Kapers
I feel like I'm Chaotic Neutral in this conversation. I can totally see why we let Hewett leave, and totally see why we should've kept Hewett. You have to take risks with a list, but that doesn't mean we have to agree with them.

I also just enjoy seeing Hewett get a role he probably would never have got with us.

hewett is like Dustin Martin combined with Leigh Matthews on this forum and brownlow winner Tom Mitchell is apparently Paul chambers combined with Ally Schnieder

barely notice he isnt there

Well it isn't hard. See how Hewett is playing at Carlton and imagine he is playing for us with a similar output, especially since he plays in a position which is a weakness for us right now.
But Hewett wouldn't then be playing with those guys, he'd be playing with our guys... so situationally different!

Hewett was great! We lost him so we could keep Dawson, who was arguably greater!

Hewett was gone before we found out we lost Dawson anyway...

Horse has played favourites and it has cost us. Hopefully that has ended.

Rubbish!!! And you know it... just stirring the pot!

If Horse was playing favourites, then the whole footy dept and half the board would have to be in collusion with him. There is nothing at all to indicate the Swans have been run like this any time this century...

Tosh.

Have a look at other contract renewals. One I strongly argued against. Who knows the true story - certainly not you. Meanwhile, have a think about jpk's form.

If George Hewett was the player that this board thinks he is, we'd have won last five flags.

I forgot your history on JPK... No idea how, but probably cause I'm only here now and then these days.

I've watched every game this year at least twice (some at the ground), so I've seen his games and his form.

And still we disagree...

Nevermind, gives us something to talk/laugh/argue about! :grinv1::roflv1:

Sounds like you need to get re-acquainted with Horace's history on JPK.

Won't take too long, start at page 2 and go from there.

It has been a while since I posted a fun fact.

If Naismith has been on 20% below the average AFL wage, he has cost us $400,000 per game from 2018-2022.

George an be a good footballer and also genuinely not a for our team. His instinct in possession to wheel around and run backwards, and slow the play down just doesn't work with how are trying toove the ball, even if we could do with his work around the clearance.

It seems really clear that the list management team thought that Kennedy could get us through to the point that Florent, Mills, Rowbottom, Warner etc would be able to do what Hewett would do in the clearances but also work better with other aspects of our game. Right decision.

I don't know why it's so hard to accept that Hewett would make our team better.

Every year list managers make decisions with risk involved, and they often have to give up talent in an effort to reach the team they want.

Melbourne lost Sam Frost before their premiership year and Richmond have lost a myriad of players since their premierships.

The list management squad decided that they didn't want Hewett. We can agree and disagree, but that doesn't make Hewett a bad player, nor does it mean that Hewett wouldnt be best 22.

agree hewett is not a bad player at all, but the bigger point for me is what his longer-term value to our team was
he's a good player but with definite limits, and pretty much all our younger midfield or potential midfield group have potentially far higher ceilings
you could name any of heeney, mills, mcinerney, warner, gulden, florent, rowbottom, blakey, campbell, even wicks and stephens (and obviously parker) (and i know not all of those are specifically midfielders now) but i'd prefer any or all to be playing ahead of hewett (maybe not stephens, yet)
he certainly would've played some first team football at sydney this year but my thinking is the coaches didn't see that being the case into the future, and i agree with that ... so he was let go ...

the argument about hewett or kennedy is largely irrelevant as it's clear kennedy is now being phased out of the best 22, as many last season could see was likely to happen

It's just head in sand stuff. He has shown he had the potential to be our best mid. His midfield craft is superior to literally anyone's on our list. His skill and decision-making and awareness and composure in traffic is just faultless. He is the complete mid and the realisation that we ourselves didn't realise that, and squandered it, is too painful for some to recognise.

But something something back injury something.

Head in sand stuff??? You're just bashing your head against a wall!
Your constant bemoaning of Hewitt's departure isn't going to change the fact that he is no longer a Swan - and no I don't agree he would potentially be our best mid and no I don't agree his midfield craft is superior to literally anyone's on our list and no I don't agree his skill and awareness and composure in traffic is just faultless.
Check the coaches votes, not in the top 20 - if he is all that you claim him to be, surely his coaches would be rewarding him with votes every week. Funnily enough, there are two Swans in the top 20.
He is a wonderful footballer and I wish he was still with us - but he isn't!
Say la vie.

Ignoring the club's mistakes = head in sand.

(expletive deleted!) you wear your arrogance on one sleeve and your capacity for condescension on the other
you're claiming it's the club's mistake to get rid of hewett, let him go, whatever ... you know better than the club!??!
that's outrageous arrogance on your part because it's a (expletive deleted!) HYPOTHETICAL argument, so you can just keep on repeating the same garbage because you think you can't be proven "wrong" ... when in fact you've already been proven wrong because the club did what it did ... and you can't shut up about it
and you continue sneering at any poster who disagrees with you!??!
i try to stay patient reading your "i have to comment on every topic" attitude on this board but geez, you just push and push that sneering patronising crap

Considering you're the one who ripped my head off for suggesting something as mild as a first-year player not yet being a key player for us last year, I am OK with you not being a fan of my posts.
