lol yeah, his kicking isn't up to scratch but he has the right temperament to address it as opposed to some players who are not really prepared to put in the hard yards.

Don't get me wrong, I nearly peed myself with Atley, Smedts & Smith were all available last year. Atley will come good, I have no doubt. Won't ever be a precision pass of the ball, but he should be able to break the lines and deliver.

I understand the conditions. We will trade to the club of your choice so long as we get xyz. Its our insurance.

But our insurance being 2nd or 3rd round pick.... Crazy

IF we did this then it is massively incompetent - especially given we would have most likely got a first rounder of some sort from GC as a compo pick if he went last year - maybe even tier 2 - and we wouldn't have paid him 500k over 2 years and then may not have lost Davis as we could have given the money to him as well as guys like Tex and Danger.

An out clause is ridiculous if we're only going to ask for bottom of the basement compo. Surely surely surely our club is more professional than this - or do we still believe our "culture" will make players want to stay.

I wouldn't trade for cooney or griffen now..mabey two years ago.
They are quick fixes for a top side..we could be down the bottom for another year:o

IMO we are only 1 or 2 good mids from becoming a good side (not a contender but a quality side) again. It really depends on how the new coach wants to approach the teams future. Do we hang around the bottom and collect high draft picks or do me make do with our core and trade to move up? IMO there is no wrong answer, both have different benefits, but they need to be orchestrated well to succeed in the long term.

Greenwood and Bastinac as well, in theory it will give us a lot of potential depth but sometimes too many cooks spoil the broth. Have seen it with McIntosh/Goldstein. McIntosh goes down and Goldstein looks like he will come close to Gary Dempsey's ruck hitout record. He just wouldn't have the same opportunity if McIntosh was there.

I tend to agree, we wouldn't be interested in shopping him around but you can never be sure if a player thinks there is too much opposition for spots or not. Moran wanted to go because he was 4th cab off the rank for a ruck spot, Hale went for similar reasons. Gibson also walked because we were overloaded for medium defenders.

Thankfully, sides can carry a lot more mids/running players than other types so I hope none of them want to walk, a fair few have been sought by GC/GWS, so far none have opted to leave.

Yeah I think eventually someone will want to go somewhere else. Similar situation with us and KPD's before "You Know Who" left. I wouldn't mind having a crack at Cunnington sometime in the future but we'll see how it goes for the time being.

I wouldn't say no awareness, he is just an 18 year old and in general I am not overly fond of skinny 18 year olds playing in the guts against solidly built experienced men.

Maybe I went a bit over the top with my description but he does seem to have more of a "tunnel vision" mentality than some of the other players in his class. His draft report made a reference that this as a possible reason that he fell so far in the draft despite being so highly rated last season. I have noticed this myself in some of your games (though I haven't seen that many) he just seems to lack that 360 vision which allows him that extra second to make decisions. Maybe it is just my imagination:confused:? Anyway, I think he will become a resonalbe player for you guys but i have a hunch that he might be one of those players who never really catches on (I have nothing to base this on other than my opinion). I hope he does become a good player because he seems to have the physical tools, the more exciting players we have the better it is for our game.

BTW is there any interest in shipping off Warren? I know that I have already brought this up on your board I would just like to see if your view has changed.

I think that is a fair call, I just think he tries to do too much which is often the case for first year players. He just needs to focus on doing the basics very well early on, go for the first option, hit the target, back up, do the 1%ers, spread to space. When you don't have a lot of senior players around you then you can lose sight of the basics.

I'd prefer to keep Milky but it is probably in his best interest to leave. He is a good kid though and having spoken to him before he is humble and hard working and a top guy to have around so I am unsure if he has it in him to walk, not the kind of guy who just thinks about himself. Sometimes you need to have that selfish streak though.

I just feel longer term Black will go way past Milky/Edwards and will take that medium forward position, he is a freak. His development is likely to get fast-tracked ahead of others next year assuming he has no other injury setbacks.

Tas - great to have your contribution on our board... very well thought out / non biased responses...

Curious as to your thoughts of Daw... From the little I have seen of him he just looks like an absolute athletic freak who can do things that someone of his size shouldnt be able to do (I know its a long bow - but its almost lebron james esq)...

When do you think he will break into Norths team and where do you see him playing - He has the size and speed to play full forward, CHF, CHB and ruck...

I'm sure Tas will have his own view, but it's a very tough question to answer. At the moment, Maj's best position is in the ruck. Now he'd have to do something incredible to overtake Goldy as the #1 man. So he's going to have to complement his ruck work by becoming either a good forward or even a good midfielder (something that hasn't been tried yet). At the moment it's hard to see him breaking into the side with Goldy and McIntosh on our list.

He can run, jump, mark, kick and tackle. That's not a bad start. People who have watched him live (something I don't get to do living in Adelaide) suggest that he has a lot of work to do on knowing where and when to run. At AFL level he could be exposed. He wouldn't be dissimilar to Naitanui in his early years (and even now to an extent). He'd still excel in contested situations but probably not much else. He's a better kick that NicNat but he's not as tall which could be a problem. Having said that, he's beaten a lot of AFL listed ruckmen in the VFL for Werribee this year. His improvement since we drafted him has been beyond all expectations.

Just because I'm bored, here are some of his famous highlights:)

Obviously the bad stuff doesn't go onto Youtube. He attempted a banana goal from the boundary on the weekend. It wasn't pretty.

Sorry to Crows fans who couldn't give a stuff about Daw. I won't derail your thread any further.

I'm thinking Forrest Gump playing football, everyone in the crowd with big sign with instructions: RUN! STOP!

I love the look his team mates on the bench give him at 0:58, they're all shaking their heads in disbelief. So good.

Whether we can pick up Daw or not we are going to need to pick up ruckman from somewhere As Moran and Craig are definites out and have to say trade Sellar or dump him and think we would be trading Ivan as well and he would probably be asking for trade and probably to our brothers in arms.
So would look at some promising rucks that dont cost too much in trading terms

If Neil Craig had of remained - Maric and Douglas would have been definate outs, or would have at least enquired about moving home this October.

Not sure how it is under Bickley.

Interesting, is this a bit of "insider" knowledge, I could understand Maric, although I would have thought that was due to lack of opportunities thanks to the arrival of Jacobs and the whole direction of the game re ruckman. Douglas really excelled last year and whilst he's stalled a little this year, I wouldn't necessarily have put that down to Craig.

Yea, Maric was obvious (and I wouldn't be surprise if he still went looking for other opportunities), but Douglas?

Door, you don't tend to talk crap, so curious to hear more about this mate?

the word is that the club has offered Maric a minimum based contract with incentives, with this in mind it may largely depend on whether he gets a better offer from another club

I noticed the Milera thread so thought the timing's as good as ever. Would there be any trade interest in LT? Only reason being is I want Smack and the compromised/weak draft will see to it that a 2nd round pick has zero trade value this year. From SA yeah? Proven match winner, but proven a few other things too. Anyway, the ability is there, if it all comes together he could be a very decent contributor. Has plenty of footy left in him too at about 22-23 yrs of age.

With the apparent exodus of your Talls will that now put Smack in the untouchable category?

Do not want Thomas. We have enough palyers on our list who can't kick straight.
For those of us who want Tapscott to join the Crows he has signed a new contract with the Dees.

For those interested in Travis Varcoe he is very happy at Geelong and is marrying a local girl in a couple of weeks.

You seriously think he will be terrible in front of goals for the rest of his career? That's taking it a bit far isn't it? Goal kicking yips do not amount to 'can't kick'. kicked 9.3 in the two's last weekend. yips will be gone, hopefully sooner rather than later.:o

He's had the yips for most of his career. At one stage (before this year)he was considered to be the worst shot on goal in the AFL statically speaking. If he's so good why are North supporters trying to dump him on us and Port. Besides next year we have Porplyzia back (touch wood).

Would love to see us snare someone of the Daw, Jurrah, NicNat, Magin variety. Someone with flair! All we have of that ilk at the mo is Danger. If we're expecting lean times we need someone exciting to draw the punters in.

Of those, I think Daw is the best fit for us.

On the flip side... Maric, Sellar, Smack and Moran could all attract attention. This year has proven that 2 ruckmen are still needed despite the sub rule.

Ok, from a North point of view, how do you suppose we get our hands on Smack then?

You guys have a lot of good young midfielders so maybe one of them perhaps or do a 3 way trade between our clubs and another like the following example: Smack to North, North sends a draft pick to GC, GC sends Hayden Jolly to the Crows.
Gold Coast need to get rid of 8 players so this scenario or a similar one could get any possible trade done between our clubs if Smack chooses to return to Victoria.
Personally I would leave to see Smack stay with us for at least another few years because he could be anything if he can add consistency to his game.

If we're looking for support for Thommo then I think Colin Sylvia has to be a serious consideration. He looked out of sorts for much of his return match today but there's no doubting he's got experience, ability and a seasoned body.

Also, thinking we may send a ruckman Richmond's way. Who at the Tiges is worth making a play for?
