Re: Brock McLean

We dont need brock mclean we need a genuine star to help lift our midfield.

Adelaide need to go all out and try and bring an SA boy home. I hate to say it but we have no choice but to sell our soul to bring one home.

Adelaide should be heavily talking to Bryce Gibbs, Adam Cooney and Ryan Griffen at any given opportunity. Under Neil Craig i do admit we have really lost our bite at the trading table due to his and triggies refusal to trade players. Guys like Reilly, Mackay, Knights and even perhaps willingly offer to trade walker if he wants to go and see if we can con a better draft pick out of GWS that can be passed on instead of sitting on our hands and waiting for our compensation pick which will definatly be lower than what GWS will offer.

However the worst thing we can do is trade in quick fix's in the hope of a quick rise up the ladder. We just need a star to help thommo in the midfield so we can start to build a side around them.

this, this and this!

its a disgrace that we don't have any of the best south aussies in the league. pathetic state of affairs.

with so many interstate teams these days its about time we banded together for some old school industrial action and got the draft changed. something like local teams alternating for the first local draft pick each year irrespective of other draft rules. so one year we'd get first crack at the south aussie kids, the next year port and so on and the rest of the draft would stay the same. vicos would have to wait 10 years before they get first crack at the vico pinata again lol. tired of getting spuds from vico while our best kids invariably get siphoned off in the other direction.

Something I've thought for years is that SA boys are less mummy's boys than that of the other states. By this I mean, very rarely do SA players drafted to interstate simply want to go home. Pavlich has been happy to stay, Bryce Gibbs will stay, Ryan Griffen, Cooney, the list will go on.

Reality is, other states players are much more likely to go home (from SA in particular) it seems, Stenglein, Carr, Griffin to WA for example, Nick Stevens, Kane Johnson, Fergus Watts to Vic. The only one I can think of going the other way in the last decade for the crows is big Sauce last yr.

Brisbane and Sydney are able to get extra money in their salary cap because of the increase costs of living in those cities. The AFL recognise their is something that unfairly unevens the playing field so they compensate for it.

Given all the above, it would be reasonable for the SA clubs to be able to argue that it is more difficult to retain talent in SA and therefore this unbalances the playing field and therefore we should get more salary cap room. Sure, it is essentially making the argument that we must be a footballing state that players dont want to stay in but hey, if it gets as a better deal (or more even playing field as I'd like to put it) then who cares.

This would help the crows, not so sure about port as they dont really have the salary room even if the concession was made.

Spud... he can't do anything but tackle.. wait, Craigy would love him.
It would be nice to have one player on our list that could tackle and that has a bit of speed. I wouldn't give up much for him at all but if we could get him cheaply, then I wouldn't be against it.

Some really odd observations here.

I'd suggest those not from adelaide just find it a tad boring rather than thinking our young guys are less mummies boys than other states.

Some guy rang aa this morning suggesting each team got one zone selection before the draft proper. I would be all for that myself.

Pav reportedly wanted to go home when we grabbed Carey instead. By the time we realised our mistakes he had far too many business interests in Perth to seriously consider going home.

Gibbs wouldn't come back now, especially short term now that Carlton are close to legitimate challengers. Adelaide would hardly seem appealing at this point in time. If we are on the rise once he hits free agency point timed with a Carlton slide then he might be ready for a move. Still doubtful though.

Griffin is the only one I don't have hard feelings for as he left for family reasons. As disappointing as it is to see him put it together for another club I still wish him all the best.

Not necessarily a bad idea, I could see clubs making a big deal about it if a few high profile recruits leave in the same year or two (a Dangerfield or Trengove for example, despite the fact I think they will stay). It could be worth merit, we need the extra salary cap to keep players due to the perceived nature of the town. I don't see the AFL biting though.

That's interesting.

I've wondered before whether it would be work if in the first round or two:
Adelaide & Port had to draft SA players
West Coast & Fremantle had to draft WA players
Brisbane & Gold Coast had to draft QLD/NT players
Sydney & GWS (eventually) had to draft NSW/ACT players
Victorian clubs had to draft VIC/TAS players.

I was going to do a brief draft analysis to see what proportion of draftees originate from each state and whether that proportion was roughly equal to the 2/18 SA clubs, 10/18 VIC clubs... from above. Haven't gotten around to it yet.

Interestingly West Coast have 62% of their listed players from Western Australia. We have around 40% from South Australia. Is the differential simply a reflection that WA is producing more AFL quality players than SA or are they deliberately drafting local, even if they have to take a slight hit on quality at times?

The way the press operates here and to be honest a fair portion of our supporters at the moment, why would anyone want to come here?

.

Maybe we should have some sort of "boring place to live" add-on to the salary cap? Just for Port, the Crows and perhaps GWS..

Each player gets 5 extra Play Station games to pass the time between trainings.

Would love us to throw the kitchen sink at Jack Redden to get him over here, kid will be a star. 21 disposals, 7 marks and 13 tackles today :thumbsu:

Re: Brock McLean

With him being contracted and all id be looking to play hardball abit and say something in the vicinity of

dangerfield and our 2nd round for menzel and varcoe

but regardless of that, i cant see danger going anywhere so i dont think we need to worry about too much discussion here
Travis isn't going any where. I heard that he's recently become engaged to his girlfriend and he's very happy at the cattery.
I would do a trade for Menzel and a draft pick.
