Your mind is playing tricks.

Groom went to Freo but did an ACL. Was then traded to North Melbourne but did his ACL again. Ended his career.

I'm pretty sure Groom had some illness and injury issues when he was with us, but maybe I'm wrong. In any event, it probably doesn't matter next to my point of whether we would do that trade in 2011.

The equivalent to Groom is maybe McKernan, though you could argue that Groom wasn't a highly recognized junior (just the best that year from SA). Or perhaps Sellar. Seller was more highly regarded as a junior and has done about the same at the same age.

Personally, I remember very clearly when that trade went down, and the universal excitement that came with it. I was in my early twenties and up til then had never missed a home game and stopping for a Barnacle Bills on the way there. Groom had promise, but it's only in latere years when the trade started to look mockingly one sided there has been a bit of media coverage (especially from Cornes) that we "almost didn't do the trade" because of how highly we regarded Groom. Which I always thought was BS, but the ya go.

I would like the club to chase Luke Tapscott. Would a straight swap with McKernan be likely as Melbourne need another big forward to help out Watts.

Tapscott will be a gun & i'm sure McKernan will become a good player also.

Just out of interest McKernan on his own , what value would you place on him

What's the story with Savage? Left GWS? How highly regarded was he? Wasn't he just a rookie pick?

He left GWS part way through the season. Couldn't handle living away from home in a town where he knows no one. Also didn't really like thinking footy 24 hours a day.

Came back to Norwood, though I have heard that he will return to GWS at the end of this season.

Tapscott and McKenzie for McKernan and Knights?

One of the more realsitic trades i've heard. I like it. Jordie would be some great help for Thommo. Is Tappy an SA boy?

2nd rounder? I think thats where we picked him up. He's shown glimpses, but hasn't had a break out game. So we get back what we paid and a lowsih 2nd rounder... I could completely be off though. And i expect we'd rather keep him and see what happens if we were only going to get the same pick back that we spent. Because then we start again with a young player and develop them from fresh

Of course i would also take of the following 3 players (with an early pick thrown in): Martin, Cotchin and Conca, but i would assume they are untouchable :p

Yes these 3 would totally be off limits along with Delidio,Riewold,Astbury,Griffiths,Rance,Vickery,Batchelor These 10 players are pretty much our builing blocks.

I wouldnt mind our 1st & 2nd picks for Talia & McKernon would certainly set up our tall timbers for a few years & we can concentrate on mids the next 2 years.

Recruited from North Adelaide. Another 1 from Melbourne I would be interested in is Wonaeamirri, just come back from the club after been back at his home (in SA (not exactly sure where)). With the recent loss of a family member (I forget who) he has been struggling been away from home which is why he has been away from the club for so long. I wonder at the end of the season whether he will be looking to move back closer to his home? If not then I don't think we would have a chance of getting him as him and Bailey get along rather well from all reports so he wouldn't be looking to trade him either.

I remember Bassett had big wraps on him though, even mentioned him to the club as someone we should recruit...

In a normal year, I think a 2nd rounder would be fair but due to how late teams first rounds are, I think a 2nd round draft pick would be around pick 40+? Considering many (including our own recruiter in Rendell) have come out and said that this is a weak draft in terms of deapth, we might want a little more then just a 2nd round draft pick for McKernan.

Wonaeamirri is from the Tiwi Islands, off the coast of the NT, just to the north of Darwin. Adelaide vs Melbourne is much of a muchness in terms of "moving closer to home".

My mistake, was he playing for an SANFL team before been drafted to the AFL then?

I would do this trade. Knights is giving us nothing at the moment, and I like the way McKenzie goes about it - tackle machine!

Would love Mckenzie but we couldn't convince him to join us a couple of years ago when he wasn't a regular in the Melbourne side, they were crap and we were still pretty good. Pretty sure he chose to stay on their rookie list rather than come over to us. I doubt he'd come over now.

I think we would probably have to give up more then McKernan and our 1st round pick for Redden personally but I would love to get him across (although lots of reports are he loves to be with his bestie in Rockliff so it's hard to see him separating).

Our cross town rivals could be looking to stock upon big bodies during the off season with Brogan gone and Trengrove and Carlise likely to follow.
I was thinking what about sending Maric (big exprienced body to back up Lobbe) and Sellar, (Potentially could play some CHB in place of Trengrove) over to them. In return picking up a hard nosed mid thats on the outer Salopek?

It works for both they get bigs and we get an extra tough mid. I dont think Maric would just be enough to get him so Sellar could be a sweetener. Comes at no real risk to either club to.

At this stage, I dont think we will be looking at an extra ruck in my opinion. I can see Bass or Redden having a big role next year, and to be totally honest - im 100% certain Trengove will sign on.

Carlile on the other hand is an interesting one, but I dont see Sellar as a real replacement - I rate him up forward more than anything else, and think that if you guys do lose someone such as Tex - he will be good cover.

I think if we look at anyone from the Crows - it could be Vince who we make a play for.

given our needs I would target the following

- Colin Sylvia, has yet to agree new terms with the Dees and we had a fair crack at him 2-3 years back
- Shane Edwards, great 2010, no so great in 2011 however home surrounds may bring out his best footy
- Levi Greenwood, a tough nut and would likely cost us McKernan
- Matt Campbell, hasn't had much of a run in 2011, however I do rate
- Sam Gilbert, starting to pull it together now however after the photo scandal earlier this year it maybe in the best interest of both player and club to part company

Who would I love however would be off limits
Trengove, Tapscott, Redden, Hurn, Menzel, Varcoe and S Motlop

..or on the other side of the fence port wants to trade us both the Cornes boys!

Yeah nice!! Just what we need players, at the end of the road, for a club that is rebuilding.

Nah,

He cant get a game with walker out of the side. He will probably be free to anyone bidding.
