Im not necessarily disagreeing with you ... but if trading McKernan was a key element in getting someone like a Colin Sylvia to the Crows from Melbourne, I wouldn't batter an eyelid.

Im not suggesting we shop him around necessarily, but if another team out there has a glut of quality mids but a dearth of KPP's, and were interested in pursuing SM on that basis, what would you want us to do?

Jesus, you couldn't pick 2 worse examples in my opinion. I despise Sylvia and rate Smack highly.

But in principle I agree. If another club offered a midfielder at a similar stage of development and prospective potential for McKernan, or if he was a clincher in a big deal like Josh Kennedy/ Lachie Henderson, then yes, you'd have to do it. But I greatly doubt that would happen.

If Sylvia did in fact want to come to Adelaide, I'd be happy for us to swap our first round draft pick to Melbourne for him, he would be a great get!

Certainly DO NOT want Lovett, struggled to ever play consistently at Essendon and we should be looking at players to stand up and lead our side, not the ones that can only play well when the team is smashing the other team.

A big NO to swapping Sylvia for our first rounder. We could potentially get a 10 year plus player with our first pick. Make Melbourne a stronger club, potentially, no thanks!

Purely because we have too many players of the same ilk.

You would know better than me but if Walker goes, do you really have that much depth?

Tippet, Mckernan and Gunston up forward sounds like a pretty good combination to me. After those 3, what tall forward options do you have?

Hey everyone, given we need some speed Andrew Lovett is going to be available and will only cost us a very low draft pick. I think with the right coach he's worth a punt. Anyone else keen??

All things being equal, it would great to keep McKernan to see what he can develop into. But the reality is, we're going to have to give up someone of significant interest to other clubs to fix the dog's breakfast that is the AFC midfield.

If McKernan is the pawn that facilitates that for us, then I say let's do it.
Golden Rule: Never trade a quality tall for a quality small! Especially if the tall has as much talent and potential as McKernan.

As Freddy Bassett said, its a heck of a lot tougher to look great in a side that is getting belted compared to a side that is belting another.

McKernan is pound for pound arguably the most talented big on our team and with the interchange rules, those types of talls are arguably the most valuable types of players to have.

McKernan has shown a lot of promising glimpses and he WILL get better with more development. He is one tall on our list that has undoubted superstar potential.

There would be plenty of other players ahead of McKernan that you would look to trade before him and players that would have more current trade value than McKernan.

The Chris Judd trade would have to be the exception to the rule though? :)
Errr with all due respects to every player involved in that trade (and I am thinking primarily of Josh Kennedy), none of them will EVER come close to being as good as Chris Judd at the time of the trade.

Kennedy is a gun but he is no and never will be Chris Judd level player.

If trading McKernan meant we are getting a Judd type player you obviously pull the trigger but if the talent base is similar, you always keep the tall.

Is the current AFL landscape changing the relative value of tall v small?

Sure, a team will always need a structure but more and more quality smalls are proving the difference...lucky our club has been coached so strategically and recruited so astutely:o

Vince looks like he could be on the outer at the Crows. Wouldn't mind getting him to the Saints. What do you reckon would be a fair swap? Straight swap with Gram?

That ship has sailed. We don't accept hacks for good players or draft picks anymore. Tambing was was our last mistake, then Craig went.

just as good players can look average in a poor team, so can average players look good in a good team.

Gram would be another Brent Reilly in our side and we already have one too many of those.
