That only says that Sanderson rates Tippett. He hasn't ruled out trading him. In his press conference he also stated that he hadn't made any list management decisions.
Kurt needs to give a definitive answer about his future. Be it here or back in Queensland. The club need to know so they can plan for the future.
The CEO makes it "crystal clear" that we will not trade Tippett. On 5AA Sando said he likes Sam Day who is a fantastic young player but he likes Kurt Tippett on his list.

Sounds pretty clear cut to me.

I think people are jumping at shadows and Tippett will NOT be traded this year! In fact I think he will be one of the main beneficiaries of Sanderson's coaching next season.

Clutching at straws much? The CEO says to be "Crystal Clear" that he's not going anywhere, the coach "made it clear there was little chance of Kurt Tippett being released" yet some people still choose to persist with this silly fantasy.

Where did the coach say" little chance of trading Tippett"? He dodged the question on 5aa I thought. What he did make "crystal clear" was that he wanted everyone 100% committed to the club.

If Tippett says he wants to go, I will bet my left one Sando moves him on...

I agree with that aswell.....

Sando would be crazy not to try and win over Tipppett... But if Tippett wants to go.....

Well if we lose him next year for a second rounder then I'll be expecting someone to lose their job. If he stays the people wanting to trade him will look stupid but if he leaves next year for nothing the people saying no trade this year will look even stupider I think.

Poetic license maybe Vader?

I don't think he did.

IIRC, Sanderson said and I will paraphrase he wasn't in any position to talk about any player in particular at this stage and will sit down with the list management committee over the next few days to see where everyone is at. He didn't make it clear about any player as he didn't talk about any player. Then he went on to ask Steven Rowe what he would do in relation to Kurt Tippet, and Rowe said he would trade him. This made him laugh and then he made a joke about Selwood being on the 5:35 flight from Melbourne.

I think your using some poetic license to suit your own argument again.

Agreed.

I'm sure Tippett will stay with us for as far as the eye can see.

Seriously people, are we going to have this same debate every time Tippett's contract comes up for renewal?!

If he signs on with us for another 3 years, in 3 years time will we be discussing the same thing over and over again?

Its ridiculous! When it comes to Tippett, Gold Coast is to us what we have been to Freo when it came time for Pavlich to negotiate his contracts. Gold Coast will be used as a pawn in contract negotiations with us but as the time goes on and their salary cap gets tighter, it will be harder and harder for them to get Tippett.

I am confident that Tippett will NOT be traded this year and I am just as confident that he will sign a new contract with us sometime next year.

It's largely the media's fault. Listen to Dwaynker Russell commentate one of our games and all you hear is "Tippett/Dangerfield/Knights/Walker/etc the boy from xxxx. Will he stay with the crows or will he head home to be with his family at the end of the year."

Port cop the same with Boak, Trengove, Butcher, etc. It's pathetic.

I hope you are right Stiff. But there are 3 big differences between the Pavlich and Tippett situation..

1. Free Agency
2.Tippett saying he is a Gold Coast boy at heart and will be going home at some stage.
3.That supposed, undenied, clause in his contract...

Don't really see how 1 and 3 are relevant. Free agency, and the clause, simply provide avenues for Tippett to move back home without us making it "too difficult" for him. With Pavlich, it's not as though he wanted to come home but Fremantle made it too difficult - he just never chose to leave. (Or, if you believe the rumours, we didn't make it easy enough for him to come :o)

As for Tippett's comments, I'm sick of him being crucified for being an honest man. He loves his home, he loves the sun and the beach and the surf. One day he'll return home. It's an honest comment and one any honest person would make. He never said that he would return home during his footy career, that is merely an assumption people have made because they're scared of losing him. I understand why - I'm scared of losing him too - but let's not pretend his comments were anything more than they actually were.

Did Pavlich have an out clause in his contract?

BTW, people have also argued that we SHOULD trade Tippett, so its not at all the same.

The reasons I think 1 and 3 are relevant

1.Free Agency.... It will be a lot easier for players to play where they want compared to when pavlich was a young man...

3.The Clause in his contract is certainly relevant:confused:
Pavlich didnt have one, it seems like Tippett does as no one wants to deny it. Not only can Tippett get to the club of his choice, he can get there for a ridiculously low price....

3.That supposed, undenied, clause in his contract...

I don't know if this will help, but it is my secondhand understanding that the clause exists.

I can't use any names of course, and sure it makes my claim look pissweak, but hey what can you do.

Given this argument has gone forever, *if* the clause exists (which i think it does) and he wants to go home at the end of next year (only he knows), then let's trade him now *sniff* *sniff* *sob* *sob*

Exactly.... At the start of this thread I rubbished people for even mentioning considering trading Kurt.....

But sometimes you have to wake up and smell the roses....

He has a clause in his contract that says he must be traded to the Gold Coast for a pathetic amount at the end of next year... Do we trade him now and grab a number 4 pick or Gorringe or should we wait a year and have a homesick player on our list on $650k who we will ony get a 2nd round pick for?

Good for you. I am not confident. We had to pay him way over the odds to keep him last time and now he has the "clause".

This debate is more than legitimate.

Free Agency doesn't allow players to leave until they've given 8 years service. Given Tippett's reportedly high contract, it would actually be ten years service for us. He'll be in the twilight of his career before free agency has any meaning for him.

As for the clause, I already addressed that. The clause is relevant is a player wants to leave, but the club refuses to play ball and the player don't want to risk the PSD. It's not relevant when the player doesn't want to leave. If the player doesn't want to leave, what difference does it make if there is a clause that allows him to nominate a club?

Pavlich didn't want to leave. He could have had a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave to a club of his choice, and it wouldn't have made any difference - he didn't want to leave.

IF, there is a clause, which it seems there is, what would that suggest to you Stab?

And why didnt Pavlich have a clause like that in his contract?

It would suggest to me that Tippett is a smart man. He didn't want to turn down his best opportunity to turn home only to be denied it later on if he wanted it. He (or rather his manager) had it written into his contract so his options (and contract leverage) would be stronger in the future.

From what I can see, he's the kind of guy who craves success. If he thinks success can be had here, he'll stay. If he doesn't, he'll leave. He's going to get plenty of money either way, I don't think that's the big issue for him.

Pavlich didn't have that kind of clause because Pavlich was in a different time. He wasn't entering his prime when expansion clubs had a million dollars spare just lying around to throw at young key forwards. If he was, things would be different.

Would love for us to go for T.Varcoe... Wonder what his contract status is like and if he had a good relationship with Sanderson (could help tempt him to come his home state).
