Murphy potentially best 22 ?? Cmon you don't believe that. Pedlar was ordinary last week, hence its a strange call.

Murphy has once again made the top 29 players after the pre season.

Based on everything we've seen from previous seasons, training reports this season and now practice selection, Murphy is once again right on the cusp of making the team

At the very least he appears to be a first choice backup in a forward role, possibly as a sub

How much game time he gets on the weekend will be very telling. If he's on in the first quarter off the bench and isn't rested for the majority of the match he will once again be in the mix for round 1

By my calculations there were 24 on the track.

There's a difference between top 29 players and top 22.

I think you're taking the glass half full approach, which i can understand somewhat.

He's not a chance of playing R1, or he'd have been in the A side last week.

Rash/Keays/ANB/Fog/RT/Tex/Curtin is presumably the first choice 7 forwards

What will be telling from tomorrow’s match is if Pedlar or Murphy is seen as the next small forward in the depth chart. Ie if one starts on the ground and the other is on the bench

I don't see either of them starting on the ground.

That's what a sensible person would presume. Unfortunately Nicks is not sensible

Doesn't look like many strange selections to me. It looks like our best 22 with positional cover

We've got Bond as the Michalanney replacement. Murphy/Pedlar as Rachele replacement (Murphy potentially best 22). Nankervis next up for Milera.

Then on the emergencies we've got mid cover (Berry), outside cover (Dowling), key position cover (Borlase) and defensive cover (Ryan) - all who are probably next man up in those roles

To fill out the 26 named to play we've also thrown in our next up forward (Toby Murray) and coverage for Sholl/Cumming if we want to rest them (Jones)
If Murphy is depth as small forward then what possible reason did they have to play him an entire game as an inside mid last week?

Well reckon if any of our small forwards get an injury, he is first up.

And rule a line thru Milera, he is done. Contract expires this year, rookie draft him later this year, no contract extension - he has got the last 5 years on bloody good money, he owes the club.

It's hard to make sense of Nicks' decisions a lot of the time
Most of the time.

He really doesn't learn from his previous mistakes... because he really is not very smart!
