The royal Melbourne just a hop skip and a jump from Spencer Street Station in bourke street is an ok place to start.
Go away fro mspencer street station towards city and on your left 1/3 of the block up you will come across the royal melb, it's a bit yuppy but won't be too bad on a thursday arvo/evening
