The final eight next year will be very similar to this year's.
About 10 teams had a chance, and the eight will be out of those, in roughly the same order.

St.Kilda in, Essendon out. Rest to be very similar. Apart from Port and Brisbane the other teams are on the improve. Port will make it again. hawthorn are some chance but I can't see a lot of improvement in them.

Mark, I usually respect your opinion (and this is not a troll), but I guarantee that Essendon will finish higher than your mob next year.
Guaranteed.

Big call to make any team a certainty, let alone 6 of them. I know my team is no certainty if injuries hit (something we managed to avoid pretty well this year), and I definitely wouldn't have Essendon as a certainty. 50/50 at best.

Likewise, it is probable that if injuries do hit any of those sides (possible exception being Brisbane) then they may miss, and also I'd give Adelaide & West Coast a better chance than Bombers anyway.

Essendon wont finish higher than the saints. No way. Essendon are on the way out. 1st 2000, 2nd 2001, 5th 2002, 6th 2003. They're in real, real trouble.

Don't listen to any of my predictions because I alway get them wrong, but one thing I am certain of is that Essendon will be a contender again next year. I know my own club and we are gradually building up again. 13 wins in what was basically a re-building year is quite good. We are in a position somewhat comparable to where we were at the end of '98.

I'm very tempted to make a collection of these Saints for the top 4 predictions. I have a feeling they will be very handy about half way thru next season.

Likewise, I'm tempted to make a collection of "Crows will miss the 8 next year" predictions.

Three years straight the Crows have made the 8, and they haven't missed a single week out of the 8 for the entire last two seasons. Yet the predictions of "Crows to slide" have been persistent throughout that time. Don't know why people are thinking the Crows will slide - but it sure as heck has absolutely nothing to do with how well the Crows are playing nor how good their list is.

Collingwood are rebuilding and we've made 2 grand finals. Pretty good eh?
I would expect nothing but a top 2 finish.

Bottom 4 and Top 6 are pretty much fair dinkom but from 7th to 12th is a toss up.

Have no idea about the ladder, but agree with comment (from someone) that other than Brisbane, all sides' chances will be strongly affected by injuries. Well maybe you can add Carlton as well - doubt injuries will be a huge factor for them in determining where they finish.

I am genuinely curious though why so many people are picking the Swans as strong chance. Not that I necessarily disagree, but the common concensus seems to be that they got the most out of their list this year, possibly "over-achieved" and I don't see huge changes happening for next season other than the loss of Cressa.

It's entirely possible that we need to go back a step before we move forward. The team is still dependent on rapid improvement and consistent performances from a number of young to very young players. I can't see the veterans improving any.

What is it that has changed so many people's minds? Really interested to know.

sydney (this year was no fluke)
collingwood (will be there abouts again for sure)
brisbane (one more stellar year in them)
port adel. (can't see em falling that far, francou, primus back will help)
essondon (they'll be there again, teams will slip below them)
freo (them and st kilda to be up there in years to come)
st kilda (for obvious reasons)
adelaide (on the fall as unsuccessfull one last go backfires)

------------------------------------------------------------------

kangaroos (unlucky could make 8 with successfull off-season(trade, draft)
geelong (improvers on last year with off-season recruting and kids comong thru finally)
west coast (my smokie prediction, they will fall hard in '04)
hawthorn(teams inproving at better rate to them)
richmond(same as hawthorn unless they trade like they say they will)
bulldogs (not sure they can trade enough to pull them out of bottom 2)
melbourne (bottom 2 for sure it seams, maybe spoon)
carlton (might win a few more than last year, thats it)
