Question to the masses. If a video of a game is available, do the comp review it for possible investigations ???? Was at a game in premier B where a player was injured due to what some would call a crude tackle, player injured and ambulance called. First quarter went for nearly 60 minutes. I was not near the incident but after reviewing the video it has raised the question. Note, i'm in no way laying blame, but I would have thought the umps would have had a fairly clear view. Not sure if a report was laid. Good news is I believe the player was ok on Saturday night. Full marks to the trainers [ of both clubs ] for there effort and knowledge and others who assisted. Footy is a brutal game at times.
Don't be calling GF previews too soon. Scotch are a vgood side. Genuine 3 horse race in my view. And Parkdale got a big boost with the return of a very good forward who kicked 6 in his return from an ACL.Weekly wrap:
Fitzroy v Bernards - Pretty mush exactly how I predicted. Bernards the top dog this year and Fitzroy middle of the pack.
Peninsula v Mazenod - I thought Peninsula would have been more competitive. You'd be happy being 2-2 if you were Mazenod. They may be more competitve than I initially thought.
Monash v Old Brighton - Old Brighton are firing. Looking forward to them playing St Bernards, as it could be a GF preview. Monash won't be pushovers and 4th spot will be up for grabs.
AJAX v Old Scotch - Scotch are finding ways to win. Not pretty but I wouldn't say no to 4-0. AJAX may just be 5th or 6th again this year.
Parkdale v Old Carey - Really surprised by this result. Unless Parkdale have improved significantly since last year, Carey look to be in some serious strife. They got within 2 goals of St. Bernards and then get put away by a team I had penciled in for 9th. They play Peninsula at home this week and MUST win.
Hopefully one of the top 3 lose a game soon so that the comp stays exciting.
Investigations have occured before off of video evidence. I know that it has happened where the umps missed a hit that the camera picked up, and the player was cited from the video evidence. But i believe that a club would need to make a submission for it to occur. The VAFA is not just going to review every game and look to pick up incidents without a club referring something to them first.
I concur with Penski, we follow the same Club and one of our players was "pinged" from the video a year or two ago. . The opposition viewed the incident / video. Clearly showed their player getting "whacked", they lodged an appeal and our bloke copped a week or two. Rightly so....justice was dispensed...

Haha, I did say "could be". I see, Boland! Good to see a bloke recover from an ACL and bag 6 in his first game back. That would make it 10 goals from his last 5 quarters of footy? Well done.Don't be calling GF previews too soon. Scotch are a vgood side. Genuine 3 horse race in my view. Any chance you could say which game the incident occurred?

My apologies for the delay. My 60th on Saturday, Sainters gave me my birthday present on Friday night. It was a big weekend.
Actually 11 goals I believe!Haha, I did say "could be". I see, Boland! Good to see a bloke recover from an ACL and bag 6 in his first game back. That would make it 10 goals from his last 5 quarters of footy? Well done.

Parky vs Carey. Sling tackle, Parky guy's head hit the ground. Sure it wasn't malicious but would think he'd be in trouble if they looked at the video.

VAFA report off the video all the time, pretty sure our silly looking friends in lime green have until Monday morning to notify the overlords at HQ of any incidents from any games that are on VAFATV ... I know this is my lot got done a few times via this last seasonI doubt the VAFA do that. I was there on Saturday, incident was right in front of me. My immediate reaction was tackle was not that bad, players from Parkdale did not really remonstrate which is usually a key if the tackle is to be thought crude.
Both clubs trainers took no risks and called ambulance and did not move the player. Credit to them.

I agree in part about your comments 2011, so I decided to take another look at the video. I've now come to the conclusion that the umpires have lacked a duty of care in this instance. If that was done in the AFL it would be an automatic 2 games at least under the rule of rough play. The actual tackle wasn't necessary and it certainly looked intentional. There was a slight remonstration and I feel that the players actually didn't realise that the player was seriously hurt otherwise I'd think that they would have gone at the instigator with more intent. The injured player actually had a seizure and was in a bad way for quite some time. I suppose the people in the big office have to be alerted to this if they are to investigate, will be interested to see if the club initiates an investigation ? If anyone does want to view the incident, 30.59 of the 1st quarter.I doubt the VAFA do that. I was there on Saturday, incident was right in front of me. Yep. Happens all the time. - 99A. Video reports initiated by VAFA: A report by the Chief Executive Officer of the Association as referred to in Rule 99 may be made on his or her own initiative after reviewing any available video or other recording of the match brought to his or her attention and making any other enquiries he considers fit. Such video report shall be in writing and made not later than 5.00pm on the Monday following completion of the match
- 99B. Video reports initiated by umpires: A report of an officiating umpire as referred to in Rule 99 may made after reviewing any video or other recording of the match. Such video report shall be in writing and made not later than 5.00pm on the Monday following completion of the match, and communicated to the respective Clubs by the Association.
If a club raises an issue with video by noon Monday, the "offending" club is made aware.
A bit like the Koby Stevens tackle, it has happened numerous times even though the "victim" would side with the offending player anyway... It's a shame the penalties imposed by the VAFA are so severe (min 2 weeks) with an extra penalty hanging over your head should you want to appeal (3 weeks if you fail).
Effectively, you can get rubbed out for 17% of the season should you challenge a poor call on a video review.
