Great game of footy today OI v Wellers .. the away team hit the post 3 times in the 3rd .. including one of the worst kicks I’ve ever seen in senior footy .. Wellers tagged Murphy and Naish by the looks .. ripper game of tough footy .. these 2 teams always have great matches

Not a pretty game by any account at Glen Huntly today. Despite there being no wind, both sides missed a lot of targets.

While the first 3 quarters ebbed & flowed. The Panthers deserved the lead at the last break as I thought they had more of the play.

However the last quarter was dominated by Caulfield who wasted goal scoring opportunities early before kicking a few late to take the game away.

Honest match report Round 14. Ground near perfect, weather conditions were the best winter conditions I can remember. Wind favouring the forest end. Maybe a goal advantage.

Hoes lost 3 keys to VFL, concussion and AFLW coaching, and brought in a player whose girlfriend went to IGS, a reserves player for his 1st game and and post injured VFL listed player. I would say almost even stevens.

Coming up against our arch rival, Old Camberwell, who have had the wood over OI (except in finals😂). I must say Old Camberwell are the physical biggest (not tallest) team in the comp. All are strongly built, far bigger than OI.

Both teams had some players missing, but who doesn’t. OI have had 10 changes to the last time we played OCamb, whilst they has only 4 changes. OCamb appear to have the most resilient list.

The game started with the player whose girlfriend went to IGS, receiving a silver service ruck tap, who then delivered a 60 metre kick which was marked by our full forward. Welcome to the VAFA.

From then on it was an arm wrestle for the remaining 120 minutes. OI were always in front, with a maximum lead of 21 points and a lowest margin of 3 points.

It felt more like a final, with the intensity really high. Any mistake was punished, anyone who attempted to over use the ball got punished.

The game came down to who took there opportunities. OCamb were helped with goals from a dubious deliberate OOBs free kick and 2 x 50 metre penalties. However, when the game was in the balance late in the 3rd quarter, OCamb hit the post 3 times, one from a galant ruckman who was awarded (correctly) a 50 metre penalty and hit the post from 15-20 metres out.

The players whose girlfriend went to IGS, showed his class with some precision use of the ball in the last, assisting in sealing the game with a beautiful fat side 50 metre pass that lead to the Hoes gapping OCamb by 14 points for which they couldn’t make up.

Sore bodies but no injuries, with some troops returning in the 2’s and some more coming back from OS, whould see the team get closer to the best line up before finals.

OCamb are an amazing team, hate each other in the field, but the after match is always extremely well attended, with all players sharing “war stories”. However they need to get a clash strip, as OI wore its full away strip at home.

Liam Thomas is a star. Ben Carlisle is going to be one.

I pity any team who has to play them over the next 4 games.

Go Hoes

Go Hoes
OC always wear a VAFA away strip , pathetic not to have one

Sympathy goes to the Roy boys' fullback as the strong rumour is that Tomahawk will be suiting up for the last game.
Roys fullback no longer sweating bullets, Tomahawk to play Div 4 Thirds...

Williamstown vs Caulfield Grammarians - No Busuttil for Willy and I believe Caulfield may get a few back from VFL.
Fitzroy vs Old Ivanhoe - Hoes yes, but the Roys won't make it easy.
Hampton vs Old Carey - End of a long season in sight for the Rovers.
Old Camberwell vs Old Melburnians - Sticking with the home team just and they have more to play for.
Old Trinity vs Old Geelong - OT seem to have a few out atm, but should get this done.

Patrick Fairlie is back with 4 games to go.

Must play all to qualify.

Must have a great relationship with Port Melbourne.

Old Melburnians had their last chance today and got spanked. As well as Camberwell played I presume OM had some outs as I still think at their best that they are probably the third best in the section.
Race for fourth and even third is ridiculously tight with most of the contenders playing at least two others over the final rounds. Caulfield rightfully have the edge but still no certainty.

6 of the top 7 play each other next round. Looking at the last two rounds I am not sure if will be any clearer however if Caulfield win then they are probably safe. The perfect cliffhanger would be OG Cam and Car wins

With Caulfield to host Hampton yet I think they are highly likely to make the 4.

The other contenders have to win their last 3 and I think OG’s and Willy are going to struggle to do this.

It’s possible for Old Camberwell & Old Carey to both win their last 3 and then it will come to %. The Two Blues have the edge here.

But my money is on Old Carey with 3 home games.

Exciting finish.
