Prem C is the melting pot between Divisional teams having a good run and Premier teams going poorly. History says those Divisional teams are close to peaking or have peaked.

Agree the one sided results make the comp boring but other than stopping promotion and relegation at Div 1, making the VAFA a two tier comp, what exactly could the VAFA do?

This year is on track with the last couple, Ormond and OP favourites for relegation.

Tough for OP with Payze apparently carrying a shouder that needs surgery. Kid should just go get it done if the mail is correct.
Just has to get surgery. He is not missing anything. Get back later in year and find some form before heading back into D1

I’m a big fan of the 2 up and 2 down policy.
Makes Preliminary final day one of the greatest days inthe Ammo's calendar. Followed by an even bigger day the week after. Back to Back bonanzas.
Also allows clubs to move up through the grades quickly. Something every club aspires to.
The team that loses the GF is often stronger that the winner in the grade above, in the following year anyway.
Yes you’ll will get some clubs who struggle or some clubs that are too good for the grade below. But this then rights itself the following year.

It's a romantic notion but the data doesn't really support rewarding the Div 1 loser.

Remembering these comments were around stopping the beltings and making Prem C a more even comp.

Last 5 Div 1 runner's up and their Prem C finish by ladder/#wins/%:-

UHS-VU 9th, 2, 44%
Old Camberwell, 1st, 14, 136%
Oakleigh, 10th, 1, 47%
Parkside, 9th, 4, 57%
Ormond are currently 9th, 0, 53% (this sample is too small)

Old Peninsula (premier) are currently last, 0, 41%
Prahan (premier) went winless in 2025, 48%
Preston (premier) won 1 game in 2022, 34%

GE & PEGS (both Div 1 premiers) have been reasonably competitive

Old Camberwell clearly the outlier but should the system be built for the outliers at the expense of the norm?

Aside from a jump in division, has OP lost players or copped injuries? Looks like their coach is back playing 1s again, and Shaun Payze running around in the 2s at age whatever. Their 2s listed only 17 players on the weekend.

The good far outweighs any bad IMO. All grades need the same numbers up as down and I believe that the clubs find themselves back in their correct grade within a year or two.
To have everything riding just on GF day would be an absolute shocker.

As my mob found out with so many out for the big one after being defeated

Yo yoing between divisions is not great for clubs.

If Ormond go straight back down to div 1 (if).

Would they have been better served having another strong div 1 year of development and winning as a young side this year than experiencing what they are now?

Think your mail is wrong. I believe on the grape vine he got surgery after the grand final he was there when we played them a few weeks back.

Believe he should be right to go soon.

Glen Eira and Ormond used to compete for the McKinnon Hotel Cup.
And still do and Ormond handed it over after 13 year and i'll say it again there was great respect all day on and after the game, pity the teetotaller didn't show himself
One thing that was crazy was both coaches boxes are nearly next to each other

Have said this before and I know I am in the minority but I personally hate 2 up 2 down, at least in the Premier grades. Plenty of recent history to suggest runners up (and often the Premiers) regularly get related within a season or two. Always exceptions (SKOB B grade Premiers 2015, A grade Premiers 2017) but the majority find the going really tough, often to the detriment of the club and playing group. Fair enough for the divisional grades as it provides an opportunity to move up through the ranks but personally I hate the idea of losing a GF and being promoted. If it was such a great concept why is the VAFA the only comp to do it? Having said all that I respect the alternative view. With the VAFA looking like being a 5 grade comp next year and maybe even a 4 grade comp within another 5-10 years maybe things will change but can’t see it happening anytime soon.

Well, the VAFA is the only comp with no drinking ( well limited) at games and a lot of people like that, so just because we are the only ones that do it doesn't make it wrong. We have very strict gun laws comapred to the rest of the world..are we wrong about that? If you look at some Eastern league ladders half way through the year and the bottom side hasn't won and second last has say 3 wins, the last 8-9 games are fairly meaningless. Appreciate your comments about sides struggling up a grade but there are other considerations such as more meaningful games in season. Look at Collegians last year and the exciting final round.

Spare me the sermon. Comparing it to gun laws…really? And I never said it was wrong, just that I have a contrary opinion. There are valid arguments for both and evidence to support both. I just prefer one up one down.

Teetotaller was honouring his grandson playing his first game for Glen Eira in the under 19s at 2 p m away. That's showing respect for him and Glen Eira.

sermon? I was merely pointing out that cause we are the only ones doing something doesn't make it not the right thing to do...i too have a contrary opinion to yours...chill
