That is the most ridiculous thing i have read... Surely no such thing as a lazy volunteer..
We've had several volunteers pull out for 2020 season because they are over 65 and don't want to put anyone at risk including themselves. But we've got plenty of people are stepping up.

FWIW agree poor choice of words, I am certainly not referring to the salt of the earth volunteers of the club. More the Presidents of the clubs that are searching for excuses to not play then solutions. Will try better next time.

Seeing that a couple of country leagues has decided to pull the pin on 2020 (due to the Coronavirus crisis), what are the odds on the VAFA making possibly the biggest decision ever made in its history, cancelling the season?

Highly unlikely unless there is a sudden spike in cases in the next week or AFL Victoria decides to take control and decide one rule for all.

Of all the leagues, I'd say VAFA is the most likely to want to play and its only a minority that seem against playing. I suspect most that are against it are from clubs who have little hope this year or are worried they'd be in the relegation battle whilst clubs on a roll and with strong lists are obviously keen to go this year and would hope promotion/relegation still exists even if its only 1 up/1 down.

But the issue we have is whilst the majority of the country is trying to return to some normality, Dan Andrews is opposed to this. We don't need large mass gatherings, but we need the ability to do some normal things and football is one. People need that release and I'd say no season in 2020 would lead to far more people not playing next year than a half season as once you've been away for a year or 2, its much harder to get the motivation to go again, especially with the uncertainty of what happens if there is more cases next year?

Because its highly likely it won't ever disappear just like every other coronavirus in history, but life moved on in those cases.

The probability of the virus surfacing at a club is just one aspect though. Clubs in the higher echelons might have the finances to ride this out, but those lower down might really struggle, because it will cost a bomb to put teams out in 2020.

The VAFA have to make a call for all, not just Premier A and Premier B. The alternative of course is to run the season with some divisions only having 6, 7 or 8 teams in them. It's going to be a weird year no matter what happens

The problem is if the VAFA decides to cancel the season, it will take the VAFA at least 2-3 years to get back to normal. When WW2 ended in 1945, it took the VAFA at least 3 years to get back to what it was doing before it suspended competition in 1941.

Final scores Virtual VAFA R9. Only in the Vammos!

Thought you’d be interested to know that VAFA TV will tonight be showing a replay of the 1989 A Section/Premier Grand Final between Ormond and Collegians.

I have two questions to ask you.

One-out of Ormond’s four straight premierships in a row (1987-90), which premiership stands out the most?

Two-if there was a match between the Ormond team of that era and the Old Xaverians side that won 6 straight premierships (1995-2000), who’d win and why? For the benefit of this exercise, the game will be played at Sportscover Arena/Elsternwick Park.

Breaking news: the Eastern and Northern Football Leagues have pulled the pin on their 2020 seasons. Still no word on when the VAFA will start their season.

So, I’ve heard two rumours today regarding player movement.

Lachie Howe - 2016 premiership ruckman back to Xavs following the cancellation of the EFL season.

Jarryd Roughead to SKOB as well. As I’ve always said, I’ll believe an ex AFL player is playing VAFA footy when they run out on the ground.

i was told today that they wouldn’t be allowing players to transfer leagues...

Working through the process re transfers with AFL Vic.

I was just talking to a cricket Victoria rep about the cricket season and he mentioned that no transfer will be eligible... be interesting to see if the vafa can get that up.
