Has a team ever won the Grand Final won year, and the wooden spoon the next?

If not, what's the worst position a team has finished in the year following a premiership?

Have been trying to find this info but not having much luck!

Not sure about that but in one year fitzroy won the spoon and the flag in the one season

I think it was the crows. 1st in 1998 then we finished 13th in 1999.

I think this was infact the biggest slide in one season.

since this was during ww1, all four teams played in the finals and then won the premiership with a stunning form reversal.

the best modern example is adelaide who fell to 13th in 1999 after the flag in 98. this is the lowest fall possible since there were only 12 teams before the comp expanded.

so adelaide are the lowest and fitrzroy won the wooden spoon and premiership.

2 wins and a draw. But looking that up I couldn't believe the 1993 ladder. 13.5 wins gets you the minor premiership?!?!? I suppose there were only 20 games, but it's still a surprising looking ladder:

Was curious how many teams win a single premiership in an era and then virtually nothing much after that.
So looked up hangovers thread but it really seems to focus on simply the season after a premiership.
I look at things like Hawthorn 1st premiership in 1961 and Collingwood 32 year premiership drought in 1990 and you get the feeling given the lack of success after it, a premiership hangover seem to happen but never came back and won another premiership with the same basic premiership group. Hawks in 1962 ladder shows they were not a threat in 1962 and next flag was a decade later. Although did they not make the grand final in 1963 ? so maybe that is doing more than nothing. Maybe they get so satisfied with that one premiership they never have the edge to be a premiership team again. Even sides with talent find it hard to win premierships if the burning hunger of winning a premiership is not at forefront of the motivation. Like those two premierships that would have had great celebrations at the time of 1961 and 1990, the Dogs after 2016 could have a bit of hangover if their edge is lost that made them a premiership team in 2016.

Mind you, I am not tipping that at all but was just curious to see how often a premiership team does really nothing after the success. Most premiership teams are either teams that fell short in seasons leading up to a flag or go on to be a premiership contender again the next season or if have a down season, bounce back up soon after. It actually seems quite rare for a team to win a premiership out of the box and then off the radar soon after. So expect the Dogs to be serious contenders again is probably what history suggests.

our hangover started 3/4 time 2004 GF, had an all too brief mini recovery in 2009 and have been off the wagon since. the fog is hopefully starting to lift with the arrival of the Fagan/Noble recovery team.

West Adelaide in the SANFL. 2015 Premiers-2016 Wooden Spooners. Not quite the same as the SANFL is a feeder league now and the AFL take any decent player you have now.
