how does one say this.
THIS IS A DEFENSIVE ANOMALY .Dusty rarely has big defensive games and if anything it has been area that has required work and still requires work.
The bloke doesnt have many weaknesses but the defensive side of the game is one part where he can significantly improve.
Dusty's defensive game more than offsets his defensive weaknesses.
of all our mids he would have the lowest percentage of tackles a game and hes not big on chasing opponents either. reckon only B Ellis and McIntosh would be behind him in this.
I suppose this will get blown up out of proportion because your not supposed to criticise club champions.
I agree with almost everything you say.
I've even been foolish enough to call Martin a "liability" in the past, when I was jacked off with his lack of defensive efforts - especially at centre bounces. But as I think you were trying to say, his attacking game more than offsets his defensive weaknesses. I was wrong to use the word "liability", but the defensive side of his game has plenty of room for improvement. (Aerial game too, IMO).
But it's no anomaly. Check out Nim's post giving the pressure points from 2017. Dusty had a higher average than Nank, Edwards, Grigg, Townsend, Miles, Caddy, Castagna and Conca.
I don't doubt he would be in the bottom few in 2016, worse again in 2015 and so on.
What I'm saying is that I reckon Martin gets more involved with the footy when his also more involved defensively. His not a player who gives us either defence or attack.
Kinda the opposite of players who have a great game with the footy but a poor game defensively (BEllis in 2016), or a ripping defensive game that means they don't get many possessions (Graham).
