I don't know or care if he's in the leadership group, I want to see Presti as Captain while Maxwell is on holiday. At least it would give the whingers who whine about Maxwell's captaincy something else to complain about.
Go Presti!

i wouldnt complain if he was. Anything is better then Maxwell. Maxwell has been pathetic so far this season. Pendles should have been appointed captain. I dont care about his age.

Yep totally agree... They MUST give it to the man who should have got it in the 1st place in Pendles. His age is a plus. Collingwood need to show the world that they believe in their young talent. But knowing Collingwood as well as i do.. watch them give it to Josh Fraser. :-( Yes, i know he is in career best form at the moment... It is still Pendles Job!!

Who's going to kick it to him? Move him onto the ball and he can 'rest' (like he'd need it) at CHF. :thumbsu:

he could be the ruck or inside midfield answer we have been waiting for

Great idea!

Maybe geting captaincy will inspire him ro rack uo 25 possesions on the half back line

25 touches?

You under rate the great man, if he played a loose HBF role as an attacker he would get 40 touches
I can't see why he couldn't be both. And we can get Schuable back to take his place in the back line.
Another class of super star all together was Schaubs (in all seriousness until he got crunched one ANZAC day he was a fair player)

i didnt like it when maxwell was appointed, but lets face it pendles has hardly set the world on fire so far either...

if right now the full time captaincy was up for grabs i reckon it would be really hard, we have no leaders, we have no players putting their hands up. fraser - too inconsistent, davis - no thanks, didak - headcase, pendles -doesnt impact games enough, lacks intensity, cloke - still unable to be involved in games long enough.....

big, big problem on our hands, hopefully by the end of the season we have some blokes putting their names forward as LEADERS!

Give it to Presti til Beams is ready to take over.

The fact is, nobody on this site knows exactly what happens behind the scenes at the club. the captaincy is generally given to the player who sets the best example on and off the park to his teammates, not the teams best player. i think Maxwell is a guy who has made it to the highest level on the back of hard work and dedication not skill alone, and therefore is a good advocate to the younger players as to how far u can make it if u are 100% dedicated to getting the best outta yourself.

I seriously doubt the people having a go at Maxwell as a captain have any sportsmanship qualities in their bodies, let alone a respective view of the role of any captain for an elite sportsclub.

A captain isn't generally your best player, (I can state the obvious players who fit that role...but the other thing is that a players perception from the public lifts immensely when elevated to that status).

Traits of leadership are shown both on and off the field...and Maxwell, from all reports from his peers is an exceptional leader off the field, and on the field...his highlights and awards (such as the Gavin Brown award...a dual winner!). Maxwell has been an AFLPA executive for a couple of years (a massive honour considering what the AFLPA stands for), and has been committed in that time as the clubs spokesman in sponsorship and media events.

As for on the field...once again, it is all perception. People expect Maxwell to change his game from his normal consistent tackling, negating and one-percenters role to a consistent ball winning image of the club sort of player. The fact is, he has changed his game and been harder and gutsier to prove to members he deserves this because of their perception, and in the end has been reported twice.

Lets go back to the start of the month. Collingwood vs Adelaide. 3rd Quarter. Collingwood needed someone to stand up...and the man who did was our captain. In my opinion, our best player that day. He laid about 4 bone crunching tackles (he had 8 for the game) in the guts in that quarter, as well as kick two captains goals to bring the game into our favour. He stood up, and helped shift the momentum.

Fast forward to last week against Geelong. Collingwood was fastly coming under scrutiny on the field. Free kicks have been paid against us for over a month while he has been in charge and when another free in front of goal came...and then saw Heath Shaw get reported at the same time, he snapped by 'attempting' to stick up for the club....and in the end, he gets the blame for literally flying the flag...a little unfair.

So far, he has done nothing wrong, and in fact, done things captains do...(Buckley, Hird etc have all done worse things as captains which have had the word 'deregistered' mentioned...)

Another thing...Shane O'Bree should, and probably will, be captain tomorrow night. Probably the most under-rated and wrongfully-abused player to ever pull on a Magpie jumper.
