Preview Preview and Changes Vs Adelaide

From what I've read, its just great to have no reliance on a couple of players in your side, who have a bad game and its lights out.
Class or not, talent? Whatever you want to call it, what we do have is genuine match winners all over the park.
We've been playing good, hard, attacking footy and looking forward to seeing ourselves against a side who played in a prelim last year.
This is just great for some of our first years at the club to get a feel for what the showdown is about and it is a genuine test to see where we are at as a playing group.
PAFC by 6 goals.

I've put my money where my mouth is and put $50 on Port winning by +21 @ 6.50. That's how confident I am that we'll beat Adelaide. They have Walker? We have Westhoff (and I can promise you, he'll be up for a Showdown). They have Dangerfield? We have Hartlett. And Wingard. And Wines. And Boak. That's four top ten draft picks compared to the Crows one.

The class is there. The talent is there. And with Hinkley and Burgess, I believe both the application and the fitness are there. I have no doubt that in the second half of the season, our performances will taper off thanks to only having one decent pre-season. But Round 3? I'd be very disappointed if the entire squad wasn't chomping at the bit to have a decent hit out and prove just how good their tackling truly is.

FWIW, I'd like to see Neade in the centre bounce occasionally. I reckon due to his size he would be either too hard to catch or he would be tackled high most times and therefore milking frees :D . Plus, from what I see, he's got super-clean hands which is what you need in there. As long as he survives....

Super clean hands and actually seems to position himself and deal with contact really well.

Look at the goals he gives to Wingard at the end of the 3rd quarter. First one he has someone hanging off him, picks the ball up and get's a fast handball off to Wingard. Second one he uses his body to push a larger opponent under the ball and then DAT PASS after the handball receive.

Go to the third last goal in the replay.

Class?

Only Walker and Dangerfield have elite abilities. Thompson is a flakey grunt, Sloane tries hard and Jacobs is quite tall.

If anything you're severely overmatched.
Lol

If Cornes shuts out Dangerfield and we can keep Walker to only a couple of goals, Port will win this by 5 goals.

I think our run and forward line is what will get us the win.

Still struggling to comprehend the enormity of thought that went into this response...

Dangerclangs shithouse game against the dons shows with right matchup he can struggle and stop lots of your midfield drive

on that note allow me to use another popular abbreviation GTFO

I read it as Dom has put his hand up and is ready for AFL duties whereas Gray isn't quite there yet. .......
Are you suggesting that Gray won't make an immediate? o_O

Thats what I love particularly about our midfield at the moment and we saw a example of this last week, Hartlett got shut down and Broadbent had a larger impact on the game and it also frees up Boak and Bradbert

IMO Adelaide's biggest advantage over Port in recent years has been size and fitness. Since Burgess has returned, I have not seen one iota of evidence to suggest that Port won't be able to, at the very least, match Adelaide for size and fitness this weekend. Bring it on.
The stats in post 387 show that we are taller than the Crows side (Crows have the shortest team in the league) but they are still heavier than us.

Putting no predictions on this game, Ports test will come on sunday. To truly see how far we have come from last year. To me Adelaide have not improved from last year, and Port have, we took it up to them in the first showdown last year, and the second one we had our whole leader ship group out so we of course were not going to win. Not expecting to win, but not expecting to lose.

the game will be decided in the ruck and midfield, we win that battle we win the game.

I reckon we'll lose :(

Meh, if we lose, we lose. I'm not going to lose any sleep over it (though I will lose $50 :D). As long as Adelaide knows they've been in a game by the end of it, I'll be satisfied.

I honestly have no idea what is going to happen. I must admit I hate the build up to Showdowns. You just never feel relaxed. No matter what people from either side might tell you it's not "just another game for 4 points". There's nothing worse than being at the game when you lose and having to trudge back to your car copping what's being thrown at you. But there's nothing better than being there when you win. You have a grin from ear to ear the whole way home. Sometimes i'd rather not go for fear of a loss but it's your duty to be there. You simply have to be there. It's a total risk versus reward thing.

I think we have the talent and the game to win but this one is just so hard to pick.

The loss of Dean Bailey could be a big factor for them too. When big moves are required in the heat of battle I think our coaches box has it all over theirs.

with that attitude we will

Yes, hopefully none of our players have the defeatist attitude that some posters who shall remain nameless have and think that the Crows are some fantastic team with an aura of invincibility. The Crows team of 05/06, that swept all before it before crashing into a lulz worthy heap in the finals was worthy of that kind of respect. This bunch of plodders, who lost to Essendon at home and barely scraped through against Brisbane with the benefit of a week rest? You have to be kidding me.

Dangerfield is great. Walker is a star. Thompson used to be good, until Dangerfield took his place as the prime receiver of the ball. And Jacobs is one of the best rucks in the comp. The rest of them (including Talia)? Respect them as footballers, yes. But there is no reason why our team should fear them like some of our supporters seem to.

To Crows supporters, I echo the sentiments of Maximus Decimus Meridius: "The time for honouring yourselves will soon be at an end."

After so many crushing defeats from this team (and being used to it with others) the prospect of a Showdown loss isn't THAT bad. But it is great when you win.

I've made one drunk $50 bet with a Crows supporter, surprisingly haven't regret the decision yet.

People say that we can not turn the corner after one preseason. Our team was never unfit per se. We were unfit to play AFL. We we're conditioned to run longer rather than harder. This means more anaerobic conditioning as opposed to endurance.

We will also be able to maintain this because we are not playing catch up due to improper conditioning and there are ways that good fitness coaches get you to peak when they want. Our boys were always fit but not in the right way. All those preseasons would have given us a good base to work with.

We have a lot of top ten draft picks and now some of them will play like it. Hinkley was amazed at the amount of high picks and realized that they were under developed. Lets read between the lines when we look at what he says. "I never put a limit on what this group can do". This is one of his sayings or words to that effect.

Hinkley has given this group a football education so they can read what is happening and react to it tmore than ever before. Reminds me of Geelong. They seem to be able to get back on top when they are challenged. They change their setups and know how they are being beaten and what they need to do to change that. According to Andrew Mackie this is the strength of Hinkley.

Boak, Cornes, The Hoff and Carlile have actually seen finals action. This group is young but they have been blooded over the past three to four years.

Our team is like a science experiment and the players and coaches are just itching to see what effect our work will have. I can guarantee you one thing. Their is no fear in our camp. Just excitement that we can tackle the best teams and walk away one step closer to being a finals contender. This group is close according to reports from last year. Just look at the re-signings last year when we were at our worst.

We have got no expectations and for once we have a team that knows their roles, is disciplined and knows how to tackle. I honestly believe that we haven't seen anything yet. We've done what we had to do but now it's time to show what we can do

Thompson used to be good? After 2 games you have come to that conclusion? C'mon you can't be serious and I'm surprised none of you picked him up on that comment.
