Preview Preview and Changes Vs Adelaide

Thompson has torn us up numerous times. Last year he was a top 10 midfielder in the competition. Possibly top 5. Our coaching staff wont be so swift to overlook his influence.

I think Adelaide have too many options. THeir midfield is better. Their forward line is slightly better. Their defence just as dour as ours. Their ruck significantly better. I think it will be a fantastic effort for us to win.

If we are to make progress up the ladder there comes a time where these men stand up and say we are as good as these guys.

Then the above becomes not applicable, I believe that time is Sunday.

Their midfield is better going on last years form. But atm the in form midfielders are Ebert, Cornes, and Boak. That said, we have played some pretty easy teams

Wait and see I guess

The problem we have with the Crows midfield is I don't see any matchups for their prime movers in Dangerfield and Thompson, or Sloane who is starting off half forward this year and then running amok further up the ground.

Along with Jacobs, all three of these guys will most likely have field days.

Hopefully Ken and Alan have something up their sleeve.

i still think we need more midfield run on the ground from the get go.
Think Mitchell needs to start. Who to sub?
Still not as convinced in Oshea as others are and i dont see needing him match up wise in the backline.
Drop Oshea and bring someone in as a sub? Gray?

The stats in post 387 show that we are taller than the Crows side (Crows have the shortest team in the league) but they are still heavier than us.

The difference in weight is small and I'd wager that we would be heavier than them if Neade wasn't named in the 22.

People need to keep in mind that Richardson has said when Gray comes back he won't be run through the middle as he simply doesn't have the run in his legs yet. I really think we need to go in unchanged.

Playing him "because it's a Showdown" to me has a "70% of Shaun Burgoyne is better than 100% of another player" feel to it.

We have kicked off with 2 wins to start the year which most of us wouldn't have dared to dream 6 months ago. Some people on this thread are getting ahead of themselves in saying we are better than the Crows. We haven't earned the right to say that by a long shot, especially about any of last year's finalists. Thankfully Hinkley has said as much consistently in the press and the one thing I am confident of is that the players are not getting ahead of themselves.

This group will be very excited about the opportunity to test themselves against a team on the next level to those played so far. Boak to play another good captain's game (I have been excited by how well he has lead in the first 2 weeks), Ebert & Broady to be damaging, Neade & Hoff to provide plenty of worries for the Cows and our backline to play another strong match. Can we win? Yep. After this weekend we will have a lot clearer idea of exactly where this group is at.

who or where did this crap come from about being disrepectful come from?
Can someone explain to me how it is??
Im seriously not getting it?

Look on the crows board. Apparently after every thing Adelaide have been through it would be disrespectful to play a 'high school boy' against 'real men' in the showdown. Don't really understand the logic when our boy Neade has the guts and skill he does.

Argh will do when i have the stomach for it, way to early...

wouldnt it be Perfect time to be playing Neade, in good form, playing against a team who is known for bruise free footy.... although they do have some big hitting enforcers like ummm hmm danger, no, the truc.... na... hmm??

I'm with you here, maybe the coaches want the Crows to think those boys are playing so they are distracted, when really your thoughts are correct.

As for running power, we have looked pretty strong in those stakes so far this year. If we dropped a runner for Butcher that could be an issue, unless they went Redden/Lobbe for Butcher but as has been noted that exposes us against Jacobs. The team has to be unchanged.

Venture over to the crows "Changes Vs Port" Thread.

There are a couple of sillys over there who are the type of people that relish a Port loss more than a crows win. They show very little knowledge or intuition about the game, and should be ignored.
Most of their posters over there are having good discussion. They state that even though we've played two bottom 4 sides, we've shown a lot of improvement, but given the form of both teams last year, they believe that the Crows will come out with a win, but not a thrashing. That's entirely reasonable.
The fact is while we played really well against the Dees, and fought back to smash GWS, this will be our first real test of the year and will carry a lot more pressure across the whole 4 quarters that many of our players won't be used to yet.

The only thing im really worried about is the clearences. we got smashed last week by the young GWS, and i believe the Crows are much better then them in that area. If that happens again i can see us getting done by 7 goals plus

People's thoughts on Renouf please. Apart from quoting stats, did anyone see him play last w/end?

From what I've seen, Lobbe and Redden are doing an OK+ job.

I'm backing going in unchanged.

Even Sydney were beaten in clearances by GWS, and Crows were pretty badly beaten in clearances in round 1. I'll admit they are probably still a better clearance side than us, but we weren't too bad in that area last year and have only improved since then.

I think we definitely need to play two rucks. Redden could be good to use his big body to bash Jacobs around a little but is maybe still too inexperienced to get any real hold of him. I think Renouf should come in for Redden if the coaches think that he has the tank to run out a full game at a good pace.

No changes pls.

Bringing in one of Gray or Cassisi is a ridiculous idea.

Dropping one of Lobbe or Redden for a non-ruck (ie not Renouf) is ridiculous.

Go even with Jacobs in Ruck with two of Lobbe/Redden/Renouf, shut down Walker and constrict Thompson and Dangerfield = game over, flip flip, game over

you make it sound so easy!
Having two ruckman gives them an extra runner. Need Mitchell as he can run all day starting.
Who right now is a mid / runner thats playing in the SANFL that could be brought in as the sub?
Cassisi, Thomas no runner, I said Gray but as stated doesnt have the legs yet, who? I think it shows we still need some speed when drafting / recruiting this year as depth
