release the hounds, with bees in their mouths

wouldnt be too hard actually.

Just get Rhys-Jones to kick them out like he did with the spirit of carlton members.

Don't conservative Prime Minister's have to be Carlton supporters?

I'm sure that's in the Liberal party constitution somewhere.

Get Tony "LycrasndSpeedo'sMcVollyfirefighter" Abbott to foot the bill.

Carlton chief executive Steven Trigg says the Blues are "open" to reactivating Princes Park as an AFL home-and-away season venue but admit the ground would need millions of dollars spent on an upgrade.

There have been two reviews of the venue, about restoring its AFL status, since the last home-and-away clash was held there in 2005 but the lack of parking has remained one of the major stumbling blocks.

I'm sure all Blues fans would like to see Princes Park become an AFL venue once again but the cost of bringing it up to standard may be a prohibiting factor. The other thing to consider is the capacity which would need to be around 25K to make it worthwhile.

If it did happen, we would only be able to use it against some of the interstate clubs, all other opponents would require a much larger venue.

If it was to happen, sure we may only get 3 games there a year.
But the financial security having another 8-10 non Carlton games played there a year would be worthwhile.

Safe to say, they need to put a lot of work into it - but most of it is cosmetic.

A big question I would have is "how long would it take to complete"?

Whilst it has been some time since I've been at Princes Park, all online photos show plenty of decay & dilapidation plus there is the obvious requirements of improved toilet facilities, improved food & drink outlets plus the introduction of specially designed entry points & seating for those with mobility issues and/or the disabled.

Offer to share it with North and the Dogs and the AFL will be willing to fund it with the govt. A smaller boutique stadium for smaller drawing games.

This Metro rail project will also give it a kick up the pants. Our ground is less than 2km from the proposed train station. Proposed to be finished within 10 years.

They'd put a lot of effort into cleaning it up yesterday, all of the tractors etc were put away and I didn't fear for my life tripping over blocks of wood when moving around between the stands. Even the toilets had soap dispensers, I was like wow.

There is very little disabled access, little to no lighting in the walkways behind the stands, the seats are old AF and the food and beverage areas need serious work. I would love, love, love to see AFL games played there again but it's gonna cost a bomb. Also getting lights in for night games highly unlikely due to population of NIMBY residents.

Three stands out of four are sound, just need a bit of cleaning and maybe some slight repair work in the Harris stand. The rest is probably about improving accessibility, and corporate/luxury facilities.

I think 35-40k should be the target Sheik, as it gives competitive opportunities outside of the AFL. The local residents will need some guarantees though.

Ripping up and replacing the benches with proper seating would probably help too. Maybe some some protection in the Legends stand for the massively amplified sound of the glass being dumped in the recycle bins en masse.

Since the Heatley Stand has gone plus the other structural changes, is 35-40K actually achievable without building a new high-rise multi-level grandstand ??

No, there'd need to be a new stand or two.

They'd need to near enough knock down the hero's stand.
Improve that so it houses all the coach's / commentary / TV / corporate.. plus seating..

That way the Pratt stand could add A LOT of extra seating by gutting the current coaches and media rooms...

Loved the standing room sections.. keep keep keep.

But most of what has been mentioned is only cosmetic... seats are easily replaced and toilets/food upgrades shouldn't be a major hassle.

This is where it would get costly and may make the project unachievable.
Would have thought the Gardiner stand getting ripped down and replaced would be part of the expected refit, and then there's that empty space between the club facilities and the Pratt stand.

35-40k stadium and we wouldn't need to play games at Etihad.

I think 25k is good enough to play 3-5 home games a year.
You're getting it ;)

The Gardiner Stand has a heritage overlay and would most likely be limited to what actually could be done.
