I'd love us to get a priority pick on the back of this article alone. I'd love us to get five. I'd much rather be hated than pitied. If anyone isn't comfortable with it, just pretend Andrew Demetriou is holding a gun to your head.

Hoping for a priority pick just makes me feel uncomfortable. I felt the same way when some people carried on about Jordan McMahon being our lord and saviour after he kicked that goal in against us 2009.

To be fair though, Jesse Hogan...

I'd rather be admired after we rebuild a shattered club without handouts.

But this isn't going to happen, so...

No, no way in hell that's going to happen. And even if it was, we wouldn't be seeing much admiration coming our way.

We're clearly already hated by a large proportion of the mainstream media hack brigade, Barrett, Wilson, Smith & the others, and a sizeable proportion of people otherwise, as proven over and over in the last few years or so - confirmed again by the substantial outpouring of anger and upset feelings from the same elements outside our club during this year at the prospect of us receiving a PP.

Football journalism is in the pits.

When the journalists think they're more important than the thing they're writing about, you know it needs a shake up.

He's accusing MFC of draft tampering:

"after a convenient little arrangement which saw GWS and Gold Coast fail to bid for him with their lucrative picks".

Sue the shit out of this knob.

EFA mate.

That's the approach "journalists" within our mainstream media, as it is now, take with almost every story or issue they write and speak about, whatever the subject - particularly mainstream media outlets, I haven't seen this behaviour pattern nearly as much within alternative/new media outlets.

And no, I'm definitely not referring particularly to the political sphere here- as I say, it's often been apparent in the way stories about other sports, and stories within other fields outside of that, are covered as well.

Of course, that's why bad news in any field is always so eagerly latched onto, or manufactured otherwise if need be, because any such story is seen by these "journalists" as a vehicle to try to garner more status and heap attention on themselves.

They love to maliciously influence something in an adverse way, no matter what that thing is, precisely because it makes them feel more important.

Great post, and not a single mention of Rupert Murdoch :thumbsu::p

However, there still is one magnificent journalist in this country. http://m.theage.com.au/comment/thea...ostly-insight-on-the-soul-20130816-2s29r.html

Very hard to argue against the conclusion that such behaviour is more heavily encouraged by News Corp in their media outlets than within other media organisations though mate - as long as such behaviour fits their political aims. The evidence is too massive and widespread to leave entirely without mention I think.

Also hard to believe now that there was actually a time in the past where mainstream media journalists would actually go on strike in protest, or otherwise speak out publicly, if they saw the company they worked for was acting in an unprincipled way and forcing dishonest partisan editorial directives on them.

But it certainly used to be the case.

I think the whole situation across the board will improve in time though.

After all, there's another underlying reason why preening narcissism, attention-seeking and self-aggrandisement are so common within those outlets now, while not being such a factor within new media.

It's because the whole mainstream media apparatus is becoming more and more irrelevant with each passing year, obviously.

I really believe that the growth of new media outlets in Australia means more ethical conduct and less sociopathic attention-seeking destructive antics again in the future. That's why I desperately hope certain elements don't succeed in stopping the NBN, because it's the biggest hope for breaking the media cartel more rapidly.

I can understand the desire of some to want to rebuild "without handouts". But priority picks are there for a reason, to equalize the playing field. Whether its the fault of your development team is neither here nor there, the fact is at the moment, your list needs improving.

I personally hope yous get good picks and really start to turn it around. If you's do get to flag contention in 4-5 years, people will hate you, but that's football - most supporters are pigs and will find a reason to justify hating you anyway.

Good luck brahs

That's exactly right.

I don't think there's the slightest reason why we should need to feel self-conscious and uncomfortable with the club receiving a priority pick (or more than one, if that were the case).

Apart from anything else, there are plenty of clubs who've received more priority pick assistance than us up to this point. Aside from the obvious, with Sydney and the two franchises.

Hawthorn, Carlton, Western Bulldogs, St Kilda, Richmond, West Coast and Collingwood have all received two picks or more. A few of the clubs in that bracket having received three.

Who are they accountable to?

They can say whatever they like about players or clubs, but the vice-versa isn't applicable without some sort of reprimand/punishment.

Who are they accountable to?

No-one. Literally, no-one.

And that's obviously another big part of the problem.

Aside from substantial vested interests benefiting from the situation continuing where these "journalists" are a law unto themselves, and campaigning furiously against any attempt to institute any proper accountability.

I'd much rather be hated than pitied.

More evidence of the hate which already exists mate... note the real tears poured out on the MB by Collingwood fans and certain other opposition posters because Viney rightly received a Rising Star nomination for his performance in the Freo game.

It's no wonder most of us don't bother posting there.

If it is pick 1, trade to GWS for Adams and pick 10 we might have to chuck in a player to say a Jetta/Tapscott. Then we take Aish or Kelly who ever is available at 3 if both available take Aish, and Dunston at 10 I'd be happy with that.

There's no way in hell we'll be trading Pick 1 for Taylor Adams and Pick 10. The whole competition is willing to pretty much donate kidneys to get their hands on Tom Boyd. This would be Grade A robbery, especially given that Adams could walk into the PSD.

Yeah, I think people are completely underestimating the value of pick 1! Not sure I would even want to tade it if there arent at least A grade mids offered. Imagine the marketing around the 'Twin Towers' two 10 year + forwards capable of tearing teams apart. We could get Adams with a mid first round which I would hope we would get if Jack wants to leave. Leaving us to use our second pick on Aish/Kelly etc or trade it if something come along that we can't refuse.

That'd be nice, but what do we do with the roughly 1.25 mil a season pair of Dawes and Clark who should have 5 or so years left in them? Are we writing Clark off?

If Boyd is a lock to go at #1, better for us to bleed as much as possible out of the clubs desperate for that key tall. St Kilda, Bulldogs and Brisbane would all be interested, will have a top 5 or top 10 pick to swap and a decent player or two. I'd take #1 for #4 and #21 from St Kilda as long as it was done early doors to allow us to wheel around and make some other deals.

Still don't know why we'd trade for Adams. He might want to do the right thing by GWS, but if he decides he wants to come here, it'd be better for him and for us if he went through the PSD so we can draft or trade in some more quality. We're in a deep, dark hole so I can't see the sense in shelling out for someone we could get for peanuts. Need to be ruthless at the trade table.

Clark and Dawes alongside them, Hogan and Boyd deeper in the forward line and Clark and Dawes playing as two lead ups...At the end of the day if Mitch is right there is an opportunity for him to play second ruck with Gawn, I know we drafted him as a forward but sometimes you can't pass on such a talent in the draft.

A priority pick will be given and we must use it wisely. Picks 1,3,20. We must trade for midfielders.

You will probably get a priority pick but it wont be pick 1. Pick 1 is reserved for us. In the best case you will get pick 2 and 3 in the worst your early pick and one at the end of round 1.

There has already been an uproar about Melbourne getting another priority pick, if they made it pick 1 there would be anarchy.
