Pro Evolution Soccer 3

Pro Evolution 3 is by far the best soccer game available at the moment. The gameplay is more challenging then FIFA 2004, the graphics are pretty good and the price is the same as FIFA 2004. PE3 is better because you actually need some skill to score goals, unlike in FIFA 2004 where it's ridiculously easy at times.

There should be an Electronics Boutique, (or EB Games) shop in Perth, see if they have the game there.

The greatest game I have ever bought and I swear I am never buying or playing the FIFA series ever again.

My only regret is not discovering the PES series sooner having burnt much cash on the FIFA series in the past.

Agreed.

I recently upgraded from PES1 to PES3 & am rapt with it.

It has Man City!!!!Even if they are called Lloyd:eek:  .

Gotta love Aston Villa's name "Small midlands village":D

Top game.

First time I've played a PES game and it is soooo much better than FIFA. You actually have to unlock the defences rather than spin past 6 defenders and beat Real Madrid 8-0 on world class withing a week of buying the game, although I must admit I haven't bought a FIFA game since '01. I'm still struggling with it, only way I can score goals is running down the wings, crossing it in and getting the centre forward to head it home.

Thru balls bring a lot of 1 on 1's, then it's all down to your composure. Do you lob? Go around? or look for the corner?

I think FIFA 2004 has made huge ingrounds on the PES this year. PES seems to have stalled in its gameplay offering the same gameplay with little extras, it is deffiently resting on its morals as being the best Soccer sim out there while FIFA keep choping and changing until the find the right mix.
With the huge amounts of money being poured into the FIFA series by EA its only a matter of time before PES is on the scrap heap and the FIFA series takes over.
Already FIFA 2004 has closed the gap remarkbly.

cheers

Er.....have you ever thought that maybe Pro Evo has the right mix?

The game came along and was instantly acknowledged as being the best soccer game ever.

You're right when you say it hasn't changed much. But why would they change a winning formula? The games are still becoming more "user-friendly" with each new version, and annoying little gameplay flaws are being eliminated too.

A matter of time!?

EA have been pouring huge amounts of money into their FIFA games for years (both license and development), and yet Konami came along and spanked their arse first attempt!

And Konami are hardly likely to go away anytime soon.

Usually I go over the bar, damn sensitive shoot button. I think I just have to get more used to it, especially retaining possession and winning the ball in midfield.

And how good are the player physiques, likenesses and attributes? When I first played as my beloved Socceroos and Newcastle I was blown away...

Kewell moves exactly like the real thing and can take players on with his pace and trickery - Okon however cannot. Unlike past FIFAs where you can go on a run with Martin Keown leaving the entire Man United XI in your wake on world class difficulty

Love the touch, pace and balance on Belasie (Bellamy) too... he's quick, agile and a poor finisher just like the real thing ;)

Sensational game.

Here is a link for a PES website with a 70 page user guide which is pretty handy. Along with some other stuff.

I remember playing a game on FIFA 2000 where Shay Given scored 4 goals...

On World Cup 98 I always tried to get everyone on the team to score a goal on 4 minute halves or whatever it was. Best I did was 9 different players, including the goalkeeper, as Argentina.

OK, you guys have convinced me. I'm forsaking FIFA 2004 in favour of PES3. My mates will be disappointed because they will have to learn new controls!

But all reports say this is way better. I used to have International Superstar Soccer on the SNES (the predecssor) and it was brilliant for its time.

My brothers are getting a PS2 for Xmas, and i bit the bullet and went for FIFA2004 over PES3. What swayed me to go FIFA is that there is online play and is officially licenced. As if my two bros (11 and 9) care about 'realistic' gameplay. They just want a fun game, and FIFA is that. Go with what you know i say.

Having said that ... i will hire out PES3. Have to see if it lives up to the hype.

ISS is still brilliant even all these year on. Don't worry about the controls, they like everything else in the game are customiseable ;).

Don't worry too much about the liscensing stuff. If you go to the team Edit you can change everything, including the kit, crest, Name of the team (both the audio & how it appears in the tables etc.)

So Man City, Liverpool, Leeds, West Ham etc are as they would be on EA anyway. You merely have to adjust them yourself.

I'm also building a Big Footy side (Using Ecuador ;)) & we all come up allright in Yellow & Blue...

OK, got it yesterday and spent most of the day playing - it's bloody great.

Yeah, will have to spend a bit of time editing the teams but once that's done away we go. Haven't started a Master League yet, just spent the day trying to work the controls.

Only disappointing things for mine are the menus are as intuitive as FIFA and the commentary is ordinary. And defending is a little tougher to co-ordinate.

I love things like if you try and sprint off your first touch is not as good, and shooting at full speed is much tougher. I also love being able to feint a kick and dummy the keeper! :p Pulled it off last night and was very pleased with myself.

Also, things like deflections and goal mouth scrambles are much more realistic. But the best thing is it feels like real soccer. You can stroke the ball around and try and find and opening. And whilst Owen or Kewell can sprint free and score, Hamann or Babbel can't.

Still getting the hang of things like the 1-2 and different sprints.

Got it on PC yesterday (I dont own a console) and its a bloody good game, but i do have some issues with it.

The game is at an extremely quick pace. Im not sure if its the same on the PS2 but on the PC it is very quick. Its still easily playable but its difficult and it makes you think extra quick on what to do.

The fact the game is very quick means the controls are extra quick. Its awfully hard to judge how to tap the shoot button as the power goes from 0% to 100% so damn quick. Most of my shots on goal have gone over the bar.

I dont really mind these as it makes the game difficult (which in my books is a good thing).

The graphics are excellent. Most of the player names are correct...for "Trad Bricks" the only player names not right are Giggs (Gils), and Van Nistelrooy (Von Mistelrou) and a backup goalie. 90% of the English teams names are correct from what ive seen but im struggling to work out who half of the teams are with the wierd names. The players look uncannily like the players...much better than FIFA.

And the players act like their counterparts. Barthez kicks like Barthez. Keane is a tough bastard to get past. Forlan never gets a shot on target. Its good.

First game i played as Man U, against some random picked european team, i played on 1 star difficulty with my team in excellent condition, theirs in poor condition and i won 5-0.

Second game i put the difficulty up to 3 stars, put me and Liverpool on excellent condition and lost 3-0 and only got 2 or 3 reasonable shots off.

Defending is bloody difficult. Ive found that doing a sliding tackle more often than not will result in a card. Adding pressure generally wins the ball if you are in front of the ball carrier but rarely does when along side.

The player movements are supurb. Players trip over, fall over, slip, slide, hussle, and teammates throw their arms up in disbeleif at how Forlan could kick over the bar from 5 metres out.

Awesome game. Im definately gonna be playing this one for a long time.

Yeah, it's the little touches that make the difference. Players claiming the throw-in and calling for offside are good examples.

And Diouf does his little dance when he scores, whilst Shearer does his one arm in the air salute. Not so sure about the group gang bang one though!

Yeah, slide tackles are very dangerous, I won't be using them too often. You can corral a player to the side which is good.
