:D

Like an X-Port, and sadly those are only sold in the UK and can only be used with PS2 games from that region. :(

For me, there is still a whole lot of 'editing' to do!

I'm a few games into a Master League season and cruising along nicely atop the division.

Barota is scoring a lot of goals for me despite been pretty average. I also bought Chipperfield and Berkovic as cheap options - but I haven't been able to find any players on frees yet - what week of the season does this start to happen?

Also, is there anywhere I can check the transfer points needed without choosing to negotiate with the player first? All I can seem to find is the salary points.

So I need to bulk up my squad with some good buys or frees, help me out!

The free's only come up at the end of a players contract, so you'll have to wait & see who's available. At the end of your first season there will be a few.

Some players are available on loan but they're not always easy to find. The first player I loaned wes David Batty, I was trying to sign someone cheap & bang there was a loan option.

There out there, ya just gotta look.

Go for youth early so by the time you're in the WEFA cup, they're established players.

I'm with you on that BB!

By youth do you mean the players that are available on the 3rd page of the clubs screen? Most are dirt cheap but not that good.

How do I go about allocating points to making them better? Couldn't be any worse than some of the donkeys in my squad who are buggered after 30 minutes! One of them has been out with a "minor" injury for 4 weeks!

And what's the furtherst out anyone has scored from?

For me Barota is awful. Sprays shots all over the place. Castolo is the man for me.

Furthest ive scored out...a reverse curving shot into the top right corner of the net from about 7 metres outside the box. Was that good i ran around the house screaming.

I hit the bar from halfway once, the keeper was off his line. I'd say 35m is do-able no problem. Epecially if you catch half volleys sweet.

No I meant buy/trade/loan younger blokes early on if you can, Wright-Phillips, Defoe, Barton etc.

I'd go for Central Defenders as growth players. You can allocate the basics like, Heading, Balance etc & end up with a kid who defends well but might be a bit limited goin forward. Once they're decent, put them on the bench & play them a bit (usually at 3-0 up!) as this does seem to help. I'm not sure how rapidly they dvelop. Somewhere in the Team managment is "Training Promising Players". That is where you can allocate points to the "Growth" players.

No doubt the default squad is pretty poor, they're ok in Div2 but become useless pretty quickly.

If you wanna cheat you could always draft some edited players into your squad ;) I've never tried it but It could be an option for those who are struggling...

Do you guys who have it on pc need a dvd drive to play it?

Is there any way to play it on a regular cd drive? Because as much as i want the game its not worth 90 for the game and 80 for a new dvd drive!

i don't know. there are 'other' ways to play the game ;)

i finally won my first match in '3 star' mode hehe. had to play most of the game without 2 players though. i think the refereeing is a ****ing joke - i seem to get fouled a lot and the AI goes unpunished - and when i do a similar thing, it's often a yellow card.

i still find it hard to break down their defence, but i only have a crappy old sidewinder gamepad. might be time to upgrade the controller i think

I'm into the play-offs to get promoted after doing the double in Div 2.

I just got Sol Campbell and Dida on free transfers for next year! Just concentrated on getting frees for that window, when the season ends I will try and get some other players to bolster the squad.

Check out South Korea - they have some absolute bargains, salaries of under 300 but quite a few attributes over 80.

Make sure you play the new guys in the friendlies, just like in real life it takes a few games for it all to come together.

I've won games on 3 star, but only managed 2 0-0's on 4 star.

I'm slowly slogging through the editing on PS2 but it will be worth it.

So what star level do all you guys play on? I haven't played for a while but I play 3 star. I had just got to the point where I could win 1-0 or draw 1-1, 0-0 (well, unless I played as France etc. against someone crap).

I've just moved up to 3 star, will play a couple of cups to get used to it before moving back to Master League. I got promoted to Division 1 and went nuts in the transfer market.

I managed to pick up Scimiscalla from Monaco, Rooney, Lee Chong Soo (absolute bargain), Riise, Effenberg, Roy Keane, Sol Campbell, Wamberto and Jay Jay Okocha (who is brilliant just behind the strikers). Of course my teamwork ratings are shocking, but oh well.

I played a game with Classic Germany last night, man they have some good players. Smashed one in from over 30 yards no problems.

What's the best goal you guys have scored? I hit a first time volley with Berkovic from well outside the box and the keeper had no chance. Also managed a couple of overhead kicks.

I'm totally hooked now, took me a few games, but it just gets better each time you play it.

I've been alternating between PES 3, MOH Rising Sun and Desert Storm II so I haven't been able to play as often as I'd like but currently my best goal was with Giggs playing inside left for Wales at a custom World Cup I created.

Already 1-0 up against Russia thanks to John Hartson, Giggsy won possession in the middle before going on a jinking run that beat 2 defenders before launching a 35-yard special into the top right corner - with his right foot!

As the pancake kitchen woman says: Mmm lovely!

*Apologies if this has already been raised*

If you're a keen PES3 fan, and are interested in some quality discussion, and file downloads (For your Ps2 or PC version) then the PESFan board is for you!

PES Fan board

There, you can learn how to download files from your PC onto your PS2 and get the latest EPL lists and so forth. Also, there's plenty of discussion about how to go about doing what etc...

I really enjoy venturing over and chatting on various topics and also downloading the latest made patches for my PC version.

And, if you're one of the lucky few to have it on PS2, I have a mate who purchased an X-Port (The USB port needed to download files to your PS2 from your PC) specifically to try the files suggested on the forum and he loves it!

Definitely worth a registration if you're interested in ProEvSoccer.

3 star is a big step up I'm finding. Can hold a team to a 0-0 draw not worries but scoring is tough. Every time I go to shoot inside the box it gets blocked by a defender.

Have to mention 1 highlight though. I was 1-0 down against Man U in stoppage time and won a corner. My keeper Dida came up and headed in the equaliser! :p I reckon it's brilliant the game would factor something like that in.

Anyone else managed that? And what's the best method for scoring in 3 star? Through balls? 1-2s?

I've been playing the PES series for years and i'm still only as good in 3 star mode.. but my trick is to use your wingers to run down the flanks more with 1-2's to give the winger a free run wide of the box to get the cross in to the advancing striker. Also if you see a flat defence, use the chip through ball (L1+Triangle) to lob the ball over the defence to the striker and hopefully give u clear shot at goal..

After all these years playing the series 3 star is still a great challenge for me..

i like the game, but there's a few things i find annoying

1. speed seems to be irrelevant against the AI. when defending, and chasing one of their players, i can never catch up to them. same with attacking, you can never beat someone with pace. it's a bit of a joke when beckham streaks away from henry

2. minor one, but still annoying. if the ball has come off an opposition player, and it's slowly dribbling out, i DO NOT want to try and pick up the ball, and only succeed it taking it over the line myself. you should be able to shepherd it over. this is really annoying, especially when you give up a corner

You have to use ur extra speed bursts when running in space with a defender chasing u..once u hold R1 in space tap the direction u are heading to twice (while still holding R1) and your player will get an extra speed burst, however it does make it harder to stop of course!

If you are trying to speed into an angle, hold R1 and while making the turn into the angle press the direction (say diagonally left) let go of R1 quickly press R2. This will make the player, play the ball slightly forward and hopefully u can retrieve the ball before the chasing or covering defender gets it.

Hope that made sense.

ahh ok, thanks.

i've got it on PC, and i'm using a 6 year old sidewinder gamepad. makes it a bit hard to do some of the 'special' moves. i thought you just had to tap/hold down the R1 button, so that's what i was doing wrong obviously.
