List Mgmt. Problems with our List going forward

Yep. Moved to Tonga in 1970, and my grandfather (who had supported Hawthorn in the VFA would send us cassette tapes recording the radio call of the game. These would arrive three weeks to a month after the game. We'd get them out and grab the batteries and listen to the call as though it as live. That was our footy fix.

My parents also followed Hawthorn from the VFA days. You would have to be a devoted fan, as am I. If we trade well, and can maintain a first round pick, which is what I believe the club will aim for, then we might just be playing on this Saturday in 12 months time.

I wasn't born back then!! But I do believe real Hawk supporters are born not made. I grew up following NRL.. vfl was just aerial pingpong to me. At 11 I went to see Hawks vs norf at the scg as a way of introducing the swans to sydney.. everyone is cheering the roos and all of a sudden I yell out go Hawks..........stunned silence. How did I know they were the Hawks? Just did. Most people know far more about afl than I do, As long as I get to cheer for Hawthorn I am pretty content. So often I just read the threads and listen to what people who do know the game think.

As you all know that doesn't stop me having an opinion. we all know what I think of Hodge and Mitch and Sizzle
and Hartung ( believe me I will be proved right in the end) But today I read something that really annoyed me..... someone was slagging Poppy...........Now from what I have seen he never stops trying and kicks some damn fine goals. Truly I think some people just like to write nasty crap...

Who ever was having a go at Poppy must be racist. He is one of the most likeable players in the A.F.L. However, having said that I would have hated to be the kid who took a toy from him when he was a kid.

The problems with out list going forward are obviously going to be managing the losses of our over-30-year-olds over the next few years while still bloodening new players.

Clarko and co. did a great job this year to still finish top 4 while still having as many debutants as we did.

The way I see it happening I do think we'll drop off to some degree, as is the natural evolution of the AFL. Most likely in the same vein as Geelong, probably one year out of finals, get a high draft pick or two along with a big-fish recruit and an easy draw and we'll be back in contention again.

The combination of our success (late picks) and trading for short term success has left our list very shallow of talent - especially in eg under 23 compared to a side like the dogs who were missing 2-3 key players and were fine.

If hodge, Gibson, Lewis continue to decline we are in for some very lean years. But this will give us a chance to regenerate our list. As the trade threads show we don't have much surplus trade currency - to gain a player were going to have to lose a good one.

Our midfield is practically non existent (other than Mitchell), backline shaky (Frawley can't defend the high ball, Gibson and & birch & hodge are getting on) and lacks run, we lack key forward targets and our best ruck may be Fitzpatrick. And other than burton hardly a young player to get excited about.

Not going to mention recent draftee's but these links show the talent is there and not many have hit the 50 game mark and shown quite a bit. I expect Brisbane to maybe raid us.....also feel free to put how you value the players
These are players who are all tradable bar O'Rouke as we brought him in and i believe next year we will see more of him, but 2018 is when he comes into the best 22 with senior players leaving, this gives him an extra year to develop and learn them come in and hit his strides
