the frustrating thing is that we've at least got options with our bowlers. you can see there is a test quick bowling unit somewhere between harris, johnson, siddle, copeland, hilfenhaus, cummins, hazlewood, pattinson, cutting, george, faulkner, coulter-nile, duffield, bollinger, starc, herrick and co.

if we can't get a quick bowling unit out of that lot then i'll go heave.

magoffin got a mention in this thread and he'd be more than reliable.

at least the selectors have got some excuses with the batting. the talent at the top is thin, and the depth is even thinner. the trouble with our spinners is obvious.

Surprised CA haven't told hazlewood to focus on his leg breaks, pattinson focus on his batting and cummins to bowl as fast as he can without worrying about length or accuracy.

several young careers for them to mess up with some useless advice and assistance in adjusting to test standard.

I expect a third of them to be bowling poo by the end of the next season, the other third out with stress fractures of the back, the ones still taking wickets to never get selected in the test side.

CA, helping England achieve test supremacy.

Yep our bowlers cost us that Test

Even after being bowled out for 47, that after SA got rolled for 96, on the back of 2 bowlers, you'd think 236 would be one tough ask still. Nope, got them with 8 wickets to spare. While the batsmen blew it big time for us that part has been forgotten. Once Harris and Watson didn't strike we got little out of the other quicks, who barely moved it off the straight on a very helpful wicket.

Siddle and Johnson, in tandem admittedly, have been part of some of the worst bowling disasters in years.

CA doesn't have to do it, the states do it for them. Look at the injury lists for WA and Qld. I have no idea what bowling coaches do these days apart from sit around trying to think up new ways of screwing up Australian pace bowlers.

All the talk of dropping johnson is rubbish, if you look back to the 2007 series against India Johnson debuted against india and did very well, in 2008 home series against sa he did well again. On both occasion Johnson wasn't the lead bowler but the support bowler so the pressure wasn't on him. After Lee broken mid series vs sa, johnson continued to do very well and led the attack in away series in sa, his confidence was up and was able to just do his job. Fast forward to the ashes series 2009 where the team depended on him, he fell apart.

Solution, just let johnson do what he is good at, which is bowling and hitting the ball hard. Forget about team strategy, mental attitude and all the other crap, let him bowl.

Johnson can't keep a seam upright.

Once a year he manages to swing the ball into right-handed batsmen and is nigh-on unplayable. The rest of the year he relies on the angled ball with the scrambled seam.

He's part of the reason we've fallen as far as we have. He has this "X-factor" so he keeps getting picked in the hope he'll replicate that spell against SA despite the fact he can't bowl an inswinger or even hit the seam.

What concerns me is that for years now everyone, EVERYONE has seen that Johnson's arm has dropped in his delivery compared to when he was at his best. EVERYONE saw that, except the Australian bowling coaches.

Truly baffling.

I'm sure they have seen it and tried to help him with it. They aren't that stupid.

Did anyone happen to see the replays of his action last time we were in South Africa. Couldn't believe the drastic change. :o

When he first came into the ODI team his arm was much more upright and he used to swing the ball a lot. Something weird has gone on with that guy. His action has been really effed around.

I wouldn't be surprised if the change is a consequence OF their attempt to help him..

here let us give you some advise regarding your action

good bowler + CA advise = Poo = guaranteed test selection.

Obedience is more important than competence.

I honestly believe the problem is the training.

Whats the point of a bowler being able to bench press 100kg?

Fast bowlers should do two things, run and BOWL!
international bowlers barely roll the arm over outside matches.

Secondly, line and length. Its test cricket after all. It seems since mcgrath/warne era, players feel pressured to take wickets, rather then putting it in a good spot. Whats better, 5/80 off 20 or 3/20 off 20?
Economy rate is non-existant these days.

Old-heads in 10 and 11, at least 1 youngun (under 24) as the main change bowler.

Remember, watson is a bowler whos learned to bat, so hes perfect as a 2nd change quick

I never understand why they take a guy who has dominated at every level he's played, then, when he gets to Test level, they try and completey change his action/technique - away from what had previously made him successful.
