Each man hands the clerk $10 and they all go up to their room.
The clerk realizes he overcharged them $5 . So he gives the bell boy 5 one dollar coins to return to the men. Realising that $5 cannot be split 3 ways the men generously give $2 to the bell boy.

Now ..each man receiving a dollar back has only paid $9 each for the room.

3 times 9 is 27 and the 2 the bell boy kept makes 29...where did the other dollar go?

The fallacy is in the '$27 plus $2' bit, which is completely fallacious. The 27 figure only comes up when you add together the cost of the room and the bellboy's tip.

There isnt a missing dollar as the guys did pay $25 for the room so add on the $3 they got back which is $28 + the bellhop's $2 and theres ya $30.
Its about adding and subtracting at the wrong times to mess with your mind.
