Can I suggest a new Sub-Forum be created called "Transcripts" so that all of ETW 'Transcript' threads can be stored in the 1 location?

How many others would back this idea?

Don't put too much pressure on ETW. One or two transcript a week is plenty. A transcript sub forum might mean we want more than that.

In Australia we tend to thrash our comedy programs to death. We want more and more of them and they get burnt out. Look at Fawlty Towers. Only 12 programs were ever made and they still seem fresh every time you watch them nearly 30 years later.

Anyway it's easy to get the full list. Just search this forum using the word "transcript" or got to ETW's profile and then click on the statistics tab and then click on the "Find all threads started by ExpectToWin" link and you have them all.

Agree with this. Don't push the man.

Well I presume he has posted 22 this year (1 for each pre-game selection meeting) and a couple extra.

Would be handy to have these all in the 1 place... no pressure at all on ETW and whatever else he adds. :D

Australia and comedy is almost an oxymoron, but gee, didnt realise fawlty towers only had 12 episodes? Crazy! Thought there were many more than that. The Office is similar in that aspect as well.

Despite how funny they are, I dont think we need a whole new forum for them.

Australia and comedy is almost an oxymoron...

What do you mean by that?? Our sense of humor and comedy is one of our great national traits.

Sorry, I meant tv comedy. I dont rate our tv comedy shows at all.

We don't do good sitcoms like the yanks and brits, but we have plenty of good comedy sketch shows. Not so much now but we have had plenty.

Off the top of my head over the years I have laughed bloody hard at;
Started with Mavis Branson, which I have only seen copies of was too young when it was on,
Graham Kennedy In Melbourne Tonight, Blankety Blanks, Coast to Coast
Aunty Jack
Norman Gunston Show
Naked Vicar Show
Kingswood Country
Paul Hogan Show
Rodney Rude's Comedy Club shows
Max Gillies Show
Australia Your Standing in It - Tim and Debbie and the Dodgy brothers show
D-Generation
Fast Forward
The Big Gig
Late Show
Front Line
Money or the Gun
Hey hey it's Saturday before it died from being repetitive
Roy and HG various shows
Good News Week
Doug Anthony All Stars
Hey Dad - was ok but was a brilliant seller overseas for the production company
Elle McFeast show
The Fat - when on the ABC not that ch 7 butchered version
The Games - ****en brilliant Aussie sitcom as good as any US or Brit sitcom
Kath and Kim
The Hollowmen
Spicks and Specks

I'm sure I've missed at least a couple of dozen other shows.

Yeah I really liked Micallef's first couple of shows and other stuff he did on TV, but I really struggled with Newstopia.

Fast Forward
Late Show
Front Line - Loved it
Roy and HG various shows
Good News Week
Comedy Company
The Fat
The Games - agree, top class
Kath and Kim
Spicks and Specks
Summer Heights High - Very very funny
The Panel
Anything with Micallef in it
Lano & Woodley

These would be the ones I like with the highlighted ones being my faves.

Maybe I just have a man crush on Rob Sitch.

Still...I dont like where comedy has headed in Aus over the past 5+ years. Too many seriously shit sketch shows like Comedy Inc, garbage like The Wedge/Mark Loves Sharon and far too much airtime to Peter ****ing Hellier.

Macca I agree that we have had too many cheap quick sketch shows in the last 5 or 10 years but as I said that has been the countries success rather than sitcoms.

The trouble is TV networks and production companies will not invest in good writers to make good sitcoms. Sketch comedy is a lot cheaper to make. But unlike a good sitcom it dates very quickly.

In the US because the pay off is so big, they employ a large number of writers for their sitcoms and will regularly turn over or add to their writing team.

I heard an interview with the Seinfield writer who come up with the line "not that there is anything wrong with that," when talking about homosexuality. I can't remember if he said he got paid $250k a year, before or after he wrote that line, but the pay off for a US sitcom is so great that they can employ good writers, in large numbers and get them to produce 1 or 2 great things a year and they get very well paid as a result.

When Sienfeld finished up in 1998 it was estimated that Jerry and the production company Castle Rock Entertainment would make somewhere between $100mil to $200mil each, in royalty income over the following 50 years, from the 189 shows that they produced.

Yes I wasn't a huge fan, actually I didn't watch too many episodes. His earlier stuff is some of the best comedy I've seen but I'm a tad biased as I worship the man.

"Coming up... was Paul McCartney's worst ever song."

Yeah he always had some great lines but there was something about the whole set up of the show that just didn't draw me in every week like the The Micallef Program(s) did.

Anyway Hollowmen is on tonight on 9pm. Last weeks show about a the Edifice Complex re building a monument with a plaque on it for the PM to make a big statement about the arts and the one about 8 weeks ago involving the public services desire to reduce the number of politicians being appointed to the Foreign Affairs roles and Ambassadorships were brilliant.
