It's not necessarily Clancee hate, I just don't think he is needed. Especially not after taking Lee Spurr earlier in the draft. If Clancee plays this year, then we are in serious trouble.

At first thought I'd agree however I reckon Lyon can turn Clancee into something. I think that's the only reason he's been given the shot, Lyon sees a role for him.

well we've got no choice but to trust ross, even if i cant see a role for a slow medium height player with average footskills, as you say there must be a role ross can see for him, all shall be revealed in the coming 8 months

well yet again the afl clubs make idiots of us big footy experts.

manson, dobosz, busher, markworth and mitchell all so "highly" rated (maybe not so much mitchell) and all left without a home. goes to show that in reality we know very little compared with the proffessionals... although i do still rate your opinion highly chris :thumbsu:... every year we have a meltdown because of players everyone wants, and every year many of the players dont even get looked at.

Markworth was taken in the 2nd round in the National Draft. And Busher and Mitchell were only ever going to be late rookie selections, but your point does stand.

I'm not surprised about Manson, I was always pretty iffy with him. The thing with BigFooty is that we have no access to interviews or any information about the player as a person. And many only go on video highlights. And Manson was apparently one of the worst interviews ever, not surprisingly.

Also quite a few like Dobosz and Mihocek probably didn't measure up like many were hoping. Kicking skills were seemingly the order of the day too, which is why a number of KPPs missed out in the national draft.

Shane Nelson and Myles Bolger are probably the two that I am surprised by, because they were rated by people outside of BigFooty too.

sorry i said markworth didnt i? i meant mihocek. your right though the clubs have the access to the interviews and get to see not just the player but the person. interesting though, i just pray we got it right

Well the video's do give us a chance to at least have some sort of debate. And whilst there I could find 3 on Jordan King - there's a certain Roger Hayden-esque about his play.

Love the rookie draft, minimal opportunity cost so it's all potential upside and cut them loose if they can't make the level.

Bolger has feet which would make Travis Gaspar cringe.

Those 2 and Waldhuter astound me. I rated them respectively the best U18s in the pool at 1. ruck; 2. inside mid; and 3. outside mid. I was hoping any 1 of them would be around for Carlton's first pick but thought it unlikely. I had in mind BOLGER if not available WALDHUTER if not available NELSON as first pick, then if all gone (as I expected) go best available.

In short the best ruck, inside mid and outside mid by my reckoning all missed out. WTF? Am I that much off target? The clubs must have some real issues I haven't seen with each of them.

Perhaps at the end of the day it comes down to desire & work ethic. Sibosado has more talent in his little finger than Pearce but couldn't hack it at AFL level, we can only presume because he wasn't willing to work hard enough. Pearce has done everything asked of him & more apparently. He's super fit, ripped & will do anything to play AFL. He's always been good at reading the play, has worked on his kicking. Perhaps these things carry weight with those who make the decisions.

Pearce has never really done anything wrong while on the Freo list. Although not a standout (except that game against Essendon where he booted 3 goals) he has consistenetly performed the roles required of him and worked hard to get the most out of himself. These are not bad qualities. I'm quite happy we have given him another crack. At position 75 in the rookie draft we aren't gambling much. He may or may not crack the big time, but we know he has the ability to play a role at AFL level and the strength and condition to handle the work load. Good luck to him. I love a battler.

Pearce is always going to put pressure on the players inside the 22. Always. He performs at WAFL level consistently and he works hard at training. He captained every side he was ever in throughout juniors, which says a bit.

There is something there IMO.

Maybe he never plays another senior game, maybe he plays 150, who knows?

I'm not much of a Pearce fan, but am perfectly happy to pick him with our last pick. Chances of getting anyone better are extremely slim, and not really worth it. Pearce at least can step into the side if required, plus maybe he deserves another go for working his backside off (by all reports).

Opted for Sam instead of Tunbridge and he ended up at the other mob. Andrew Boseley was overlooked too. If all the players that got overlooked have good seasons at their state leagues next years superdraft could be even more super.

I'm in the negative camp on Clancy in that I don't believe he'll be a productive player at AFL level.

Having said that I think grabbing him with the last RD pick is a good move.

If nothing else it demonstrates to everyone on the list that hard work and high levels of diligence in preparation counts for something with the list management team. Rewarding people on the borderline for hard work is unlikely to ever yield bad results for us.

Good luck to him, he's earned another crack at it and I hope he can make it.

Theoretically, we should be insanely dangerous and productive forward of centre with the likes of Balla, Crozier, Schlothe, Mellington, Pav, Neale etc down there.

I believe we've got the drive in the midfield to get enough of the ball forward, we just need to tighten up in defense and move the ball out of there. Hopefully King and Dawson will help with this.

Could be a good draft period?
