With the PSD and RD tomorrow, the talk is we will rookie AC, leaving us with one more pick (likely to also be picked up as a rookie).

Who's everyone's pick to end up in the Navy Blue tomorrow? Some people are keen on Joel Tippett as a mature Key Defender, which I'd agree with but I'm not sure if he's the best out there.

Thoughts?

Covered ad nauseum in the other draft thread, but doesn't matter :thumbsu:

AC is a certainty for one of our selections. As to the other pick, very tough to say. Reckon it would have been Reimers had he decided to have another crack. We were interested in Joel Tippett, but as checkpoints notes, he's decided to stay in the SANFL.

IMO all this points to us wanting to bring in another experienced player. I must say that personally, I'm not a huge fan of that approach and would rather we go down the path of bringing in another young player, but who am I to say that whoever gets selected is undeserving? We could certainly do with another midfield runner with pace.

aha - I forget... I did hear about JT staying in SANFL. And with Riemers 'saying no' to Carlton (yeah right) and going to the WAFL, everybody is in the dark about the who we might pick. A tall defender or midfield runner with pace would be what we'd be after i'd say but who knows... be interesting either way.

I know it's an unpopular but opinion, but I can't help but feel Collins is a waste of a pick. Will not make it long term, especially with Menzel coming in.

Would rather take a punt on a few roughies.

A bit like that McLean guy. .. Collins has some potential and having a ready to go defensive half forward who can pinch hit in the midfield might not be a bad idea. .. especially as a rookie. ..

Low risk option picking him back up as a rookie. plus only have to pay him $30k so its a good call imo and gives us better depth. Leaving 2 places on senior list also allows us to play both Bell and Curnow all year too. Wouldn't be upset if we chose a project ruck/tall to develop on the rookie list like we did with Casboult - especially if we are going to look to trade one of Knockers/Hammer at the end of year too.

It's going to be a mature aged player if you read between the lines.
So saying that, it has to be either Fev or Tucky. :D

Everyone I know that plays VFL reckons Tuck is no good.

Haven't seen him play myself. Does anyone think he is a realistic chance of getting picked up?

Seems like we're going over old ground here.

The guy may not see much, if any, light in the seniors next year and then what? Just feels as to much of a long shot for any return from where he is.

Conjecture: McInness will be on the LTI list for the first 8 weeks of the season. This will allow Bell, Collins and Curnow to each play round 1.

Whether Collins can force his way into the 22 is a matter for the new coach but 36 games in 6 seasons on an AFL list doesn't fill me with much hope. He may be an infamous hero on here but who exactly is he going to push out of the side? Odds on he'll be delisted at season's end along with White, Davies, Ellard and Joseph.

All we know is the club declared they'd only take 3 selections in the draft when 5 lists spots were available. We're playing funny buggers with list management and a tight salary cap (Judd deal) by not promoting Bell and Curnow.

The club rate Collins higher than any 18yo kid they might have selected at pick 71. I just hope the kid they want in the rookie draft is still there and the next best kid doesn't go on to play 150 games at some other club!

Tippett gets his Sydney wish
But while Brisbane conceivably could have come close to matching Tippett's fee for 2013, perhaps $800,000-900,000 - by combining the two forms of capped payments - Tippett is believed to have set out terms that put all, or nearly all, of his contract in the salary cap. While this appears to be a clever tactic of his management and the Swans, to ensure he gets to the club of his choice.

The Swans have pushed Tippett in the pre-season, rather than national draft, in the knowledge that it is much harder for rival bidders to find the extra room for such an expensive player after the national draft, when clubs have to put in their estimates. The clubs put in their salary cap estimates on November 29, a week after the national draft.
Tippett gets his Sydney wish

More draft tampering by Tippett and his management. It's OK by the AFL because the reigning Premier haven't cut any players who are on good money, yet they still have the space to add $800,000-900,000 p.a. to their salary cap. That cost of living allowance comes in handy. The whole competition is rigged with the AFL as dishonest as the teams they hit with a wet lettuce leaf for cheating the salary cap.
